I had a hardcover copy of this and it is very special to me. I read it just as I got accepted into film school but didn't know anything yet and I wanted to get a head start of film history before my first year, highlighting many areas of the book. I learned so much from it and the photos are beautiful.

Just bought this massive history of film; never expecting to obtain it at the bargain price I did. I referenced it a few years back at the public library and am now glad to have my own copy. The earlier parts dispel common myths of the early cinema routinely passed on through the general film literature and discourse. I'm nowhere near finishing this. But it's obvious from what I have read and seen in this beautifully assembled book that this is one of the very finest overviews of the movies yet ...more
