Recommends it for: those who think they know what Appalachia is about
Shelves: thepoets
Steve Holt starts where other Appalachian poets leave off. He takes the stuff of Appalachia -- the coal mines, the bad roads, the poverty -- and presents it not as fact but as metaphor in these haunting lyric poems. Draught, flood, war, and uneasy peace all are covered from the Shawnee to the New South, from Lavisa Fork to the bays of Connemara.
