FIiiiiiiinally finished this bitch. Really good, really in depth, a big eye opener, even if you take interest in crime and that sort of literature. But there is a big patch towards there end that is unbearable, big loss of pace, the writer starts putting himself into the story and kind of explaining how he came across the people and he whole process of writing the book, which is great but, not placed in the best part of the boook. Apart from that, astonishing read, some crazy shit happens and yo ...more

Quite violent and shocking, journalistic approach. Through the reading you can feel the smell of the dark alleies of the favelas in Rio de Janeiro and the pain of hundreds of families that need to leave by the shaddow of the drug dealing. The true history of the drug net that has been built since the 70s in Brazil.

It is a shame, it is only in Portuguese. The amazing inside of Rio's Favelas with their mixture of drugs, religion, faith, poverty. Vasconcellos had to flee his country for a few years after y published this journalistic book.
