An illustrated reference guide provides an in-depth look at the evolution of American architecture from the 1940s to the present day, offering an illustrated survey of houses, museums, churches, schools, and office buildings around the country. 12,500 first printing.
The title "a Field Guide" seems a bit of an exaggeration, but at the very beginning of the book Rifkind does explain and show various styles of modern and contemporary architecture. Most of the book however covers architecturally significant public buildings. All the photos are in black and white which might discourage some readers, however it really allows the viewer to focus on the architecture. There is little in this book for people interested in private homes.
