Many people belong to cults and sects which appear strange, frightening or disturbing to others. Aimed at the general reader, this book reveals the beliefs and practices of many modern cults and sects, explaining their origins and attempting to answer the questions raised by their activities.
This is a handy resource for those who might be curious about the origins, history and practices of New Religious Movements of the last few decades, as well as a neat answer to some of the anti-cult movements' objections. It's perhaps not quite as comprehensive or objective as the author intended though, leaning heavily towards a middle-class British and a Christian viewpoint.
