The edit of this book was my first assignment with F&W Media/Krause Publications and the Gun Digest brand, and I couldn't have been happier. I had a long conversation with the author, Bruce Eimer, before we started work on this book, and I was very happy to learn that this wasn't going to be just another book on concealed carry guns and holsters. Indeed, we had originally subtitled this book, "The Thinking Man's Guide to Concelaed Carry," and that truly is what this book is about. Sure, there are plenty of sound gear recommendations in here, but Bruce tells you why they're good picks, for whom they're good picks, and when they're not the right choice. More importantly, the whys of concealed carry, the mental preparedness that goes with the very heavy responsibility of carrying a firearm every day is laid out here as no other book on the subject has done before. Serious reading on a serious subject, and a must for anyone who values the right to self-defense.
This is a good book to read for those just starting gun training/concealed carry training, and it is also a good book for those who train. I was able to skip over a few different chapters, and the rest was quick to get through. Elmer also offers plenty of suggestions for guns, holsters, and other defensive equipment-- very handy. Glad I read this.
