A clear, descriptive, well written book, with beautiful pictures of monarch butterflies that come
to life on each page. It should excite each reader to get outside in nature and hunt for monarch eggs or tiny caterpillars on the undersides of milkweed leaves.

What? This informational book gives explicit detail about the Monarch Butterfly. The reader learns how to raise Monarch Butterflies, the life cycle, releasing the butterfly into the world, predators and perils, mating and migration, and how to save the habitat of butterflies. The author also provides a page of educational websites, a glossary, and an index. The photography is phenomenal. This book is all you need to get a full understanding about the life of a butterfly.

Don't let the fact that this is written for children deter you. This book is full of wonderful information that can help you begin rescuing monarch caterpillars.

Very good children's book on raising Monarch butterflies. It does tend to minimize finding milkweed plants. That is fine; if you live near a good source of milkweed. If not, finding and/or procuring a spot to grow, then growing the milkweed might take longer than a child's patience. So, it's not as easy as the author makes it seem.

Aside from that, it's got lovely photographs, informative text and a great section on 'where to go next' at the end.

Overall a very good book.

Rich photography fills this information text. Excellent detailed images and explanations of life cycle, emergence, finding eggs, creating butterfly garden, raising monarchs, etc. would be an excellent companion to raising monarchs in a classroom. Also gives so much more clarity than the classic "egg-caterpillar-chrysalis-butterfly" life cycle.

An excellent guide to teach children (and adults) all about monarch butterflies. The book uses the correct terms to describe the butterfly, its anatomy, life cycle, and care of caterpillars. I liked that the text was not childish, but clear and to the point. The book also included information about the present decline of the monarch population and what we can all do to help them.

Great book that helped answer our questions this summer as we raised our own butterflies. Gorgeous photos, as well.

This was an informative book. I sounds like it takes less time for a Monarch to mature, than a silkworm.
