Like all the books published by the Alban Institute, this book was motivated by a very real need -- most Christians in the U.S. attend small churches. A typical Protestant church sees attendance of 89 on a weekend. 60% of Protestant churches have attendance of 100 or less. At least 7% of Christians attend churches where the attendance is 50 or less. Resources are needed for those in clergy or lay leadership in such situations.

I don't agree with everything in this book by a long shot. Some of the ideas are good but a lot are less than thought out
