As far as books from the hood, this one is okay but not great. Nothing is truly resolved, but I stuck it out through the end because I can feel the author working hard to convey the overwrought emotions of youth attempting to win over loser parents, keep relatives out of gangs, and generally find a purpose higher than the streets. I would have liked to have seen less character conflicts. Focus on a main point, maybe one subplot, and then really drive it home for me. Otherwise, there’s a lot of g ...more
