Though I first read this in middle school, I recently re-read it to my children and they loved every moment. Beautiful, descriptive prose, a sense of humor, and detailed information on the loving care of cats. Made me nostalgic for the days when authors about such things could lean on true literary expression instead of excess profanity for audience appeal.

this is one of my favorite books...even as a non-rereader i have reread this book so it is almost falling apart. i love animals & this book takes you through the lifespan of a cat but through an individual cat's story for each stage as told by the author who met & cared for them throughout her life. beautifully intimate & heartwarming, funny & insightful, it told me & made me feel like i had a cat before i ever had the actual pleasure of having one. & taught me a lot about what i knew about cat's before i could be taught by my own cats. it will remain in a special place in my library & memory. i would highly recommend it to anyone who loves cats, plans on having a cat, or wants to remember their cherished cats through stories of other cherished cats. i only wish to find more books this good in such a specifically special way.
