I had a librarian introduce me to this book and feel its a good beginner chapter book and was very easy to follow along with. It displays a good message of teamwork and perseverance and is good at teaching students to navigate chapter books before they begin reading them regularly. The story is pretty timeless and should interest any young reader who enjoy Arthur or just like sports.

Recommends it for: children starting to read chapter books
Listened to Mark Linn-Baker narrate this story as part of a 4-story Anniversary collection audio CD.

Arthur and his pals are as entertaining as ever and it kept the six-year-old traveling with us engaged for the entire trip. We enjoyed listening to this CD together.

Davey: "This was OK. One thing I learned was that one guy that is not on a team and says the strikes and what is happening is called an umpire. One thing I liked in the book was that Arthur learned how to catch the ball. You put the glove above your face so the sun doesn't get in your eyes and where the ball will land and you catch it. One thing I didn't like in the book was that the other team, Penguins, won."

Arthur is sweet and his parents are great. The theme is nice and my kids liked it. Some parts are strange though, like the baseball coach taking the kids out for icecream AND soda after baseball practice. Weird.

The Arthur books are so cute. I loved reading them and watching the TV show.
Rants and Bants
Not my favorite Arthur book/episode, just because sports are unimportant to me. But the coach (or Francine's dad) was really nice. Sometimes it's hard to believe they're related. xD
