I'm honestly not going to put into the effort into writing a full review because...well...no one put forth the effort to make a real audiobook here.

Essentially, this book took radio clips without much context that involved animal stories and made it a "audio CD".

It is frustrating cause everything felt disjointed.

I wish there was more context given to the stories (a unifying narrative)as well as including expansion or follow-ups. Rather disappointed with this.

If you love NPR and dogs . . . well, this is a no-brainer. Dozens of dog stories, taken from various NPR programs, and interspersed with music - it's just like listening to the radio! I chuckled, I sobbed, I wagged my tail a lot.



A must for dog lovers!

I was hoping this audiobook would be full of crazy dog stories that would have my face and belly hurting from all the laughs. What it is is a collection of stories about dogs from informational to personal to mysterious (as in the breed investigation of a certain mutt). I learned more than I laughed and it was good, just not Marley and Me good.

Recommended for pet-lovers, especially those who own dogs.

I didn't like how the audio CD transitioned from one story to the next. It felt choppy and unconnected. Some of the stories were excellent, but only a few did I truly want to stay in the car and listen. Needless to say, I was disappointed and struggled to enjoy the entire CD.

If you "speak dog," you will truly enjoy this audio book. You will smile (a lot), laugh and, yes, even cry (a little). So much joy. If you don't "speak dog," you may learn a new language. And with that new knowledge, you may want to get a four legged best friend to engage in conversation. If you do, please adopt a rescue. They will appreciate you forever.

Delightful. Stories about dogs of all sorts. The lengths people will go for their dogs, the lengths dogs will go for their people. Working dogs, dog DNA tests, dog mysteries, it's all told in short tales that you'll wish will never end.

Another great collection of animal stories. Again there are stories of companionship, science, and caricatures. With the extensive history of NPR, it is good to have thoughtful collections of like minded tales.

I have one criticism of this. It's too short!!!! I could have done 12 discs of this audiobook. It was thoroughly entertaining. If you are a dog lover, this is a must-listen-to.

I was expecting fun, cute stories about dogs but it was almost educational in how it presented the stories. When expecting something like Marley and Me, this certainly fell short.

I picked this up thinking it would be a fun, light listen. But within the first 10 minutes I had such a bad taste in my mouth I had to stop. That early on they were talking about dog training and discussing Caesar Milan as a legitimate dog trainer. Truly, Caesar Milan is just a man who bullies dogs into submission. Sure, he sees temporary results (as any bully does), but there are far better ways that are far more compassionate, respectful, and long-lasting. I was so disappointed in NPR for shining light on such a poor popular culture icon.

Positive reinforcement training is what I wish they would have discussed. Here are some links if you wanted to learn more about that:

I like these collections of NPR stories by topic. I think having it on GoodReads might be confusing some reviewers who refer to it as a "book" and think it might be difficult to read this radio show in written format, but I'm happy to rate it and add it to my list.

As one reviewer mentioned, there are one or two sad stories in here. If you're familiar with the NPR radio format, you'll know to expect that this isn't Marley & Me, which seems to be disappointing some folks. Not sure why, it's not like it was claiming to be Marley & Me, but... If you go into it with an open mind instead of expecting something, you'll find plenty of interesting and amusing stories and might even learn a thing or two.

Entertaining, as always. I was disappointed, tho, that they didn’t tell us if the senior dog & his deployed person got to see each other again. (Or maybe they didn’t, & they thought that was too depressing?) Also poignant, as I couple of stories deal with a dog reaching the end of its life. One thing that’s cool about NPR recordings is that since they were radio shows, you get a full production—music, barking, snuffling at the mike....

NPR's Driveway Moments collection are called "Driveway Moments" because the idea is supposed that the stories are so good that the listener sits in the driveway and listens to the end of the story when he/she gets home rather than just turning off the car and going on into the house.

In this collection, the emphasis is on dogs and this collection covers all sort of dogs. From homeless chihuahuas in Los Angeles to massive sheep dogs in Turkey. There are celebrity dogs, blind dogs, war hero dogs and dogs that go to church. We also hear from two different dog trainers, learn about DNA testing for dogs and learn about a mother dog that adopted a nursing tiger Cub.

The collection is up-and-down but the strong stories are good enough for me to rate this collection 4 stars out of 5.

I'm more of a cat person, myself. But I enjoyed listening to these today as I continued the endless task of pulling weeds from the natural areas in my back yard. I would make fun of some of these people -- treating their dogs like children to the point of being ridiculous -- but then I remember how I carried on when my cats passed away and I'm not one to point fingers.

I think I would have a hard time reading these though -- the whole thing really lends itself to audio.
