I think the hard thing about this book is the repitition. However, its really the point of the book. It's a 400 page historical argument that you can't be a Baptist if you do not have an correct view of the scripture. It throws down on the non confessional, liberal attempts to explain their Baptist identification. It becomes obvious that they are not Baptist in any historical definition. A great collection by Dr. Nettles. Thank you!

Examines the development and expression of the doctrine of Scripture in Baptist life. Begins in the early 1600's and goes to the mid 20th century. Most of it is examined in the writings of prominent baptists of the time. Deals with the beginning of Higher Criticism and it's effect, primarily within the Southern Baptist.

Very good introduction to the views on the Bible by the Baptists throughout history. It is really wordy and extremely long, but hey that is how seminary rolls.

Great survey of Baptist thought on the nature of the Bible. Slightly repetitive in parts.
