A quote by Plato opens the first chapter: ‘Everything that deceives also enchants.’ Indeed, the mood is set for a thrilling read.
Dr Angelo Morley is a handsome and charismatic man. He is also emotionally cold and cruel. We learn what tragic events shaped him early in the book, and watch in fascination as he set in place events that he believes will bring him fame and fortune.
One of the puppets in this plan is Jade, a talented criminal lawyer. What he doesn’t realise is that he has met his match in calm ruthlessness.
Both these characters are deliciously wicked. Ms Scott has drawn them well and we fully understand their motives and actions.
The story tumbles along at a good speed and there isn’t an opportunity to get bored. In fact, this is one of those novels that is hard to put down.
This is a novel for those readers who like their fiction fast-paced and exciting.
