What's what in the story: Crimson Spell is a fantasy series set in an Europe-look-alike world, the main character is a prince who is possessed by a cursed sword, and the cursed prince is on a quest to break his curse. Along the way there comes a handsome but jaded mage who ends up helping the kind hearted prince. From this point onward romance, smuts, faes' magic and monster-fighting ensured! LOL

I really like this series and hope to read more in the future.

A powerful mage and a cursed prince

In a travel to find the cure to the prince curse everything can happen... funny, incredible explicit sex scenes... marvelous draw, to a already in my favorite shelf.

My applause,

and I CERTAINLY recommend it to all Yaoi readers... do it, and then tell me if it's not one of the best plot and draws you read.

This is a re-read. Still loving it. Yamane sensei's men are uber delicious to look at. The sex scenes are so well done that it kept me staring at the pages for long time and I love flipping back to it just to stare at it again and drool some more.

The pervent in me was a tad bit disappointed by the missing (view spoiler) during Val's erotic encounter in the woods hence I sorta knock off a star for that. I demand a full-course when it comes to tentacles sex.

This is like someone took a less-epic D&D novel and inserted m/m porn (I can't even call it erotica, as it was completely basic ass-fucking with no foreplay and one character who was always unconscious during the sex). As a concept the aforesaid is actually rather amusing to me; the problem is that the dialog and plotting are on the level of the worst of D&D writing. We get lines like, "Talent such as yours is seen but once in a generation. You are correct to assume we feared it. After ...more

This is quite entertaining and sexy. Who wouldn't want a pliant (but dangerous) demon at their feet?

Sometimes there are changes of scenery (and storyline) that are quite confusing and make me scratch my head more often than not.

To be continued.

Maybe like a 2.5?

I honestly don't even really know what to think about this one. I was excited because it's BL fantasy (most of them are contemporary), but then the fantasy aspects were glossed over so much. I mean, we find out that Vald's (one of the MCs) kingdom is being invaded, and then he pulls out a sword, becomes possessed by a demon, and goes on a month's journey to find a sorcerer all in the span of a HANDFUL of pages.

And then there's the issue of consent, which seems to be rife in BL
Lilia Ford

It's a solid fantasy story, with plenty of sexy scenes featuring the usual yaoi disregard for the concept of consent. Though both characters are beautiful and there were many lovely images, a lot of the art was oddly stiff and awkwardly proportioned, especially compared to her classic Finder, Volume 1: Target in the Finder. It's definitely not enough to turn me off the story--and I am greatly looking forward to Volume 2.

Definite must-read for lovers of yaoi.

Every manga by Ayane Yamano is a masterwork. And Crimson Spell is no exception. The drawings are beautiful, the characters lovable and the sex so hot that it burns the pages. Bald in his demon persona is the hottest thing on earth but then, I have a thing for intricate tattoos. And it's not all about fantasy stuff and wizards, fighting and demons, there is also humor there and the chibis are so funny looking that you just have to laugh.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next volume!

Okay, so I'm a total pushover for sexy men with long hair, sword and sorcery fantasy, and demon sex! I admit it. I also admit that, although I actually own both English volumes of Ayano Yamane's yaoi fantasy series, I've also read all of the on line translations and I'm dying for the next installment! These books actually inspired me to begin work on a new M/M slash fantasy story, "Who Rules the King's Heart," still a WIP. That's how much I adore them. My favorite yaoi manga series ever, without ...more

I was already a huge fan of Ayano Yamane's Finder series when I heard that this was getting an English release. I was a little skeptical that it wouldn't hold up to the quality of Finder. Thankfully, it was as good if not better! Yamane's art is exquisite, as always, but the storyline is even more developed than the first volume of Finder. Prince Vald has been cursed by his crimson sword to turn into a beast at night. He journey's to the magician Havi, renowned for breaking curses. Havi demands ...more

what a fun fantasy read. this was my first yaoi manga and i really liked it. i liked Havi and Vald. Havi, who'll take advantage of any situation and naive Vlad.
Havi was definitely happy about the curse on Vald. it provided him with a virile, vicious demon he could satisfy himself with at night. plus during the day he had a companion in Vlad. they are on a journey to cure Vald and Havi will take every advantage he can. and to his surprise he's falling for Vald and his demon.

I was not sure what to expect with this book. It’s very pretty, and it looked good, but I didn’t even read the synopsis before reading it. I knew it was supernatural, and yaoi, and that was pretty much it.

Prince Vald gets cursed by a sword in order to save his castle/village/family. In an effort to get rid of the curse, he goes to a sorcerer,

Prince Baldrigr Alsvieth journeys with the magician Halvir Hroptr to find a cure for the prince’s curse. The prince has fallen victim to a bewitched sword that turns its wielders into murderous demonic beasts. Only Halvir’s help will free the prince from his curse. But the magician has a price.

Ayano Yamane once again brings her talent for drawing hot men and non-consensual sex to paper. This time she delves into the sword-and-sorcery realm and she acquits herself very well. The male protagonists

ANN Plot Summary: "In attempt to save his country, prince Valdrigue uses the cursed sword, which once belonged to his father. Now he is slowly turning into beast and the only person who can save him is mysterious and powerful wizard Hallwill. In exchange for help Valdrigue must accompany the wizard in his quest for magical devices."

What makes it a yaoi is how Hall weakens the demon's power and takes some of it himself. It's actually necessary for Val, who doesn't remember anything that happens

This is a typical Yamane manga with her ever so gorgeous art. The premise of the story, being fantasy based, is interesting and she know how mix just a dash of humor (Natural fairy lamp. Hit it and the fairy will glow in anger... priceless!) with a generous amount of pure smut! Lovely, lovely smut!

It being a yaoi and as thus often less story-based and much more sex-based, I am nevertheless nicely impressed with the story found in this one. It's engaging and I can't help but want to know how our

I haven't been reading yaoi for a while as I got a little tired of the same plot and very little character development across a series. But I decided to give this one a go. I was not disappointed. It set a good pace, though a little more time could have been spent on the scene setting and back story, and there was a plot beyond getting two guys to have sex. I know that's kinda the point but I really do like something to read. It was fun, funny and the characters were engaging. Looking forward to ...more

Gah! Sooo much pretty! And with humor! And prettiness! And set in an amusing fantasy realm. And prettiness! The most ridiculous thing about this is all the crazy names. But every last problem is forgiven considering the prettiness.
I don't regularly read yaoi manga, but this is probably the first where I think I can get really invested in the story and characters! The art is gorgeous!

This was hilarious. It was like someone write a smutty fanfic of a generic dungeons and dragons type fantasy quest story.

War between two minimally described kingdoms... magic sword... curse... graphic semi-consensual anal sex... cute magic creature... mysterious antagonist... screaming orgasm... more magic...

Crimson Spell is a high fantasy novel well known for both its lush illustrations and graphic love scenes (a yaoi manga intended for a josei audience). The story is intended for a mature/adult audience and as such focuses more on the psychological rather than romantic aspects, of character development. It has been criticized for rushing things (they couple within the first 10 pages or so) but really that's the point of the story arc - to have the characters begin a with a brutally dispassionate ...more
This was okay. Okay, lets be honest, if not for the lovely artwork this would have been 2 stars...

The plot and character development need a lot of work. I could not get a sense of identity off anyone. Havi seems interesting enough to try to continue but otherwise I was a bit frustrated and overall bored. I can't even add anything that the summary does not say really.

Now the artwork is amazing! Especially when Vald (not sure why summary calls him Bald-it is Vald inside the volume) goes to his
Even though I undertook quite the effort to get all three volumes of this in the physical form (for some reason I was really hung up on not wanting to read this on-line) I wasn't sure how much I would like this in the end. But I was pleasantly surprised! It's a good fantasy story with an intriguing enough plot and great characters. Ayano Yamane's art is absolutely gorgeous, I can't get enough of it, but the best part of this was probably its humor. I didn't expect it to be as funny as it is, and ...more

I'm following the online translations, so unfortunately I haven't finished the series. It started off on a pretty rocky start for me. The art was great and the storyline wasn't bad, but the whole sex-in-the-first-chapter-or-so-under-dodgy-circumstances really made want to put this volume down to 3.5 stars. But since the site I read this on doesn't have the volumes (and I can't be bothered matching the chapters up)I rated the whole series so far. Which is in to about chapter 34 (I'm suspicious ...more

The truth is, in terms of guilty pleasures, for me the guiltiest of the guiltiest is yaoi smut manga. I don't read it all that often, but I kind of hoard it like a 14 year old girl. That said, I have my standards.

And coming off a previously bad manga, I had my reservations. But I'm really happy to say this was a nice surprise. The art was certainly nothing to write home about, but the characters were easy to love, they had a surprising amount of depth, and the story has a lot of promise.

This fantasy boy love manga is all those cliché bodice rippers thrown into one story. The curse prince, the magician, the consensually dubious sex that seems to be a hallmark in all BL manga's, you know surprised buttsex galore. There is also bucketfuls of cheese and stereotypical gay man image.

However, it is funny and entertaining, the art is gorgeous and the sex is hot. Ayano is a very, very, very good artist.

This manga is of a young prince who under a curse turns into a beast. One day his home was attacked and in order to save his people he took a sword that was cursed to slay the monster. This led to him being cursed into changing into a monster. I like this manga. It has a feel of Beauty and the Beast but with a twist. This manga content deals with male/male romance. Under the curse of the beast Prince Vald goes on a rampage and hurts those that he cares about. However, when the curse wears off he ...more
