I first heard of Josh McDowell when I was a Uni students in the early 80s. I remember reading his booklet 'Jesus and the Intellectual', which I think was probably the first thing I'd read that talked about evidence for Christianity. I've also read a couple of his books, a drop in the ocean considering he's written or co-written over 100 in his 50 years of ministry. However, I knew nothing of his life and was interested to read his story.

What I didn't know was that he came from a childhood of abu

Undaunted is a personal memoir demonstrating the life of Josh McDowell. The book is also based on the movie Undaunted. He grew up on a farm in Union City, Michigan. At a young age, he began to realize that life isn’t always right and you aren’t always treated fairly. His father was an abusive alcoholic and would regularly beat his wife. He witnessed many quarrel and fights between his parents during his childhood. Many different times, he would stand up to his father and try to stop him from hur ...more

The power of Christ's grace, mercy and forgiveness demonstrated in Josh McDowell's life. This story of how McDowell soared above his painful past and came to know Jesus as his personal Saviour will move you to tears of sadness and tears of joy. Most of all is is a powerful story of forgiveness.

Jesus can make miracles out of disasters!

I have to start out by saying, I don’t normally read biographies. I find most of them so dry and boring that it’s almost a waste of energy. Undaunted sounded interesting and I’d heard of Josh McDowell (but never read anything by him) so I thought that I would give it a try. I was more than pleasantly surprised.

First and foremost, Undaunted does not feel at all like a biography. It is written with a relaxed style that feels as if you are sitting and chatting with Josh McDowell. You find out the s

This was Josh McDowell's own story. Raised in a very abusive home, he wanted nothing less than to see his father dead. When he went to college, he met a group of Christians who challenged him to disprove the reality of Jesus' life and death. He tries, but everywhere he went, he met people with real answers, and eventually, reluctantly, accepted the existence of God. Ultimately, he took that leap of faith in Jesus as Savour and Lord. Josh McDowell has gone on to serve God in many ways, and is the ...more

This is the story of the early life of Josh McDowell. I was amazed by how dismal it was. He had an alcoholic, abusive Father, a morbidly obese Mother, siblings who just wanted to get away from the family and to top it all off, he was systematically sexually abused by the hired help. The story just made me think how remarkable it is that McDowell became such a well known evangelical speaker and writer. It really is a testament to the grace of God and what the Lord can do with those that are fully

A remarkable and powerful memoir.
Josh McDowell's early years were riddle with tragedy and horrific events that seemed to be set on repeat. His father was an abusive alcoholic. His mother, although loving, was unable to protect her family. After high school Josh wanted nothing more than to escape.
As Josh pursued his dream of becoming a lawyer, he overcame numerous obstacles, meet many people who impact his life and future, and most importantly, sought the truth about Jesus. His journey is remar

Josh was the son of an abusive, alcoholic father. The hired hand did horrible things to Josh for years. All Josh wanted to do was leave and escape his life. He went on a world wide quest to prove there was no God. Instead he became an evangelist and learned to listen to the clues God gave him to fulfill his life in the best way possible. And he learned to forgive everyone for the horrible youth he endured.

I wondered why I hadn’t heard of this before. It must have been hard for Josh McDowell to remember and to write and publish this aspect of his life story. I salute him.

WOW!!!!!JUST WOW! This book in unlike anything I have ever read. September 9,2013
The moment I began this book I was hooked! It was beyond incredible.
The book "Undaunted" is an autobiography written my Josh McDowell. In this book Josh talks about how hard life was for him as a child and a lot of the hardship he had to go through. He grew up with a father that was always drunk and abused his wife (Josh's mom) because of it. He had brothers and sisters but they all moved away because no one like

I found the book, Undaunted, to be an amazing story of a man who was changed by God and the legacy that flowed from that change. Josh McDowell had a rough childhood and was going down the wrong road when a college student challenged him to prove that Jesus had never risen from the dead. Josh McDowell took the challenge and after studying manuscripts, talking to experts on the subject of apologetics, and going to Europe to research, he came to a startling conclusion: Jesus is as He says He is as ...more

I tried reading his More Than a Carpenter book years ago. Although I was intrigued by the concept of an atheist becoming a Christian after a dare to prove that Jesus was who he said He was. And the authors trip to Europe to prove that He didn't exist, then finding out He did. The book was rather dry to me. And from what I have heard, you either love it or just don't get into it. That was me, I was already a believer and didn't need that proof to show He was not a lier, but the real deal. Now thi ...more

This book is pretty incredible. And it's message, that it is Christ not religions that changes lives. I really appreciate how honest the author is with his struggles and how he is able to tell of all the horrible things that happened in his life. He does not hide his flaws and openly shares his failures, letting us relate with him. I find it ironically wonderful that he intended to disprove Christianity only to become a Christian after thoroughly researching the a Bible and it's claims. I was en ...more

This book was really like it kept you in shock and what would happen next. The book is about a kid seeing things and things happening to him. Like his dad was drunk everyday and that he would beat his wife with stuff that were close to him. There would be a guy that was his babysitter would rape him and touch him. And making his heart cold, for what is happening to him. How that he everyone would judge him for his dad and know one was there when his babysitter would rape him.

Undaunted was a great read. I picked it up and literally couldn't put it down till I read it all the way through. Not only is it well written but its easy and smooth story-telling style engage the reader completely. The story itself is incredible and it brought me back to my own decision to follow Christ. I was deeply touched at the end of the book while reading a particular display of God's grace in an answer to one of McDowell's "impossible prayers." I would highly recommend this book to anyon ...more

This was a wonderful book about the life of Josh McDowell, Christian author and speaker. The book starts with mcDowell's difficult childhood as he dealt with an alcoholic, abusive father, sexual abuse, and the destruction of his family. It tells of his scholarly attempts to disprove Christ's resurrection and subsequent transformation as a he believes in Christ and becomes a Christian. I loved the rest of the book as well, as it talks about the ripple effect as so many people are saved through hi ...more
