This is the story of a farmer who loses his sight, and gains a Guide Dog, from the author of many books about animals and country life. The fictional Labrador in this book has to fit in to farm life with sheep, jealous collies, and other distractions. The author is clearly impressed by the thoroughness of the dog's training and how he enables the farmer to live a full life again.

Stranger's books are always well written and she appeals to all ages with this one, but it is not a children's book. T

"Never judge a book by it's cover..." Well, I am lucky that I did here, or I would have missed a good book.

Steve, a farmer, is living a happy life on his farm, betrothed to a wonderful woman, having one of the best sheep dogs in the region. The future looks bright.
Until one day, when the brakes of his car don't work, and he drives into a wall. When he wakes, he is blind. He falls into depression, hating his life, sending is fiance away, wanting her to start a new life without a crippled man.
