Much of what `we' (we = the world) know about Africa during the period of European Colonialism is written by Europeans. Occasionally one `gets it right' - particularly Basil Davidson. But mostly such histories are self serving, apolegetic and empty. Starting in the 1970s and continuing until today, Africans have started making their own contribution to their history, politics and culture. Albert Kwadwo Adu Boahen was born in Oseim to Presbyterian parents, and had his ancestral roots in Juaben-Asante. He attended religious schools between 1938 and 1947. He then spent three years at the Mfantsipim School before enrolling in history studies at the University College of the Gold Coast in Legon. He graduated in 1956.
