It was a difficult reading because of the brevity and intensity of Gómez de la Sernas metaphors and images. Sometimes a "greguería" consisted of a kind of surrealistic idea or an image. However, some other "greguerías" were just like a game of words, a challenge to literary resources (alliteration) or a silly remark on a daily life detail such "the jumping of a frog looking like a suicides jump".
For me, Gómez de la Serna is a pioneer to microstories, haikus and tweets.
I liked the book very muc

Eccentric, funny, and often beautiful one-word poems. Will a poet skilled in both Spanish and English give us a perceptive and respectful translation soon? I tried myself, but my Spanish is limited.

Ramón Gómez de la Serna Puig (July 3, 1888, Madrid - January 13, 1963, Buenos Aires) was a Spanish writer, dramatist and avant-garde agitator. He strongly influenced surrealist film maker Luis Buñuel.

Ramón Gómez de la Serna was especially known for "Greguerías" - a short form of poetry that roughly corresponds to the one-liner in comedy. The Gregueria is especially able to grant a new and often hu
