Excellent book, almost worthy of five stars but is a bit too short and ends too soon. Denman played multiple characters in the original Broadway production of The Producers musical and he takes readers from start to exactly a year after he auditions. He ends the book with him taking the stage as co-star understudy. All of it is well written and very interesting for those entering the theatrical profession.

A light and easy read. For anyone who wants to know what it's like to be a performer in a musical, this has the lot - from audition, rehearsals, out of town tryouts to the season itself. Rather comforting in some ways to know that, despite the stakes being as high as they are on Broadway (+ Tony, Tony, Tonyyyy) that the workers go through the same process, same anxieties, same silly backstage rituals and other stuff that happens everywhere.

I'm not an actor, nor do I live in NYC and get to see many Broadway shows. But this book made you feel like you knew the cast and were part of the experience. It is such a treat, and gave great insight into an actor's time auditioning and being in a show, and just the life of an actor in general. I wish there was a recording somewhere of Jeffrey when he went on as Leo Bloom, it would be cool to watch some of the scenes he mentioned.
