I needed to read a book set in Rhode Island for my challenge and I found this one. And it turned out to be a very excellent story too! I admit it's the dramatic cover art that made me pick this book from the choices that came up. Especially the expressions on the faces of the two characters on the cover. I didn't even know what it was about when I started reading it.
So this turned out to be a mystery revolving around two sisters who are searching for lost pirate treasure. And their quest becomes dangerous as a pair of villians want the treasure for themselves! Molly is in 7th grade but she does some questionable things that put her and her younger sister, Glen, in danger. There are some real chills and fears in here! Nothing to laugh at either. We're talking danger as in dying...that kind of danger.
The story also has some lovely elements of the supernatural added for extra creepiness and flare. Ghosts, mysterious shadows, a tale of a witch...it's all great stuff!
Truthfully I was amazed at how well written and plotted this book is. In fact I'd go as far as to say it's far superior to some adult mysteries I have read. And it was really a pleasure to read too.
I also liked the added bit about what is the proper thing to do with treasure. That was unexpected. It's a great message for whoever reads it.
