Although I quite liked the book as a general history of the rise and fall of ancient Rome, I found some small issues. A smattering of historical inconsistencies, typos, and repetitive claims were distracting and took away from the scholarly potential of the book.

I found this this book was a rather good over all history of the Rome. Though I was forced to give it only three star because I felt that its coverage of the barbarian invasions/migrations as well as most of the latter days of the Empire were both rushed and incomplete. However, if one wishes for a nice background of the influences of Rome as well as many of her greatest artists, generals, leaders, and orators, then this is a great source.

A good general overview of Roman history, but it can seem too much like a flyover at times.

It was very formative and descriptive about Ancient Rome. However, I am not a fan of these types of books and at points thought it was quite boring. Although over all, the book pretty well written.
