A compilation of Infante’s cinema reviews circa 1954-1960, not an autobiography, as the blurb here states. Opening with a howling riot of a section where Infante discourses on his alter ego G. Cain (the pseudonym for his reviews), the book moves into considered broadsheet analyses of favourites of the fifties, from Welles, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Wilder, Malle, Truffaut, Kurosawa et al to the flops of the period, with an intermission for a fanciful punfestival before the second half. For cineastes who like their reviews literary, inventive, and accurate (Cain foresees all the huge names to come) and fans of fifties cinema, this out of print hardback is recommended.
