“Barot’s Want is dexterous and thrilling, and his capacious and generous vision shows us how the eye survives ‘to correct the heart.’”—Michael Collier

“In Rick Barot’s hands every poem casts at least two luminous shadows. Want is masterfully merciless and merciful at the same time.”—Terrance Hayes

I enjoy some of Barot's meditations, but found the poems to be largely airy and drawn out with sometimes excessive ponderousness. I have a strong interest in poetry with sharp, cutting language, or complex, syntactical moves, and found Barot's work to be mildly pleasant at best and slightly boring at worst.
