این است آنچه تو در زمین می دانی و باید بدانی

اين‌ جمله‌، بخشي‌ از دو سطر پاياني‌ شعري‌ از جان‌ كيتس‌ (1821ـ1795) شاعر رمانتیک بزرگ‌ قرن‌ نوزدهم‌ انگليس‌است‌. جان‌ كيتس‌ در شعري‌ با عنوان‌ «چكامه‌اي‌ در باب‌ گلدان‌ يوناني‌» ،پس‌ از توصيف‌ نقش‌هايي‌ كه‌ بر اين‌ گلدان‌ كشيده‌اند ـ و نظير آن‌ نقش‌هايي‌ است‌ كه‌ هنرمندان‌ ما برقلمدان‌ها مي‌كشيدند ـ شعر خود را چنين‌ پايان‌ مي‌دهد:
Beauty is Truth. Truth beauty-that's all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

I'll be honest, its hard for me to appreciate British poetry. But the theme that I see in this piece about how beauty may fade but love still exists is one that I value. The lovers on the urn are beautiful, young, and will never grow tired of one another or have problems in their relationship. However, they aren't real! (evident by the fact that they can't kiss). In other words, real people may grow up, gain weight, age, and have marital problems, but their experience can still be positive. I li ...more
