Singularity #5

Event Horizon

They’re trapped in the middle of an alien war—and their only hope of salvation is from the most unlikely of sources.

With the survivors of the diplomatic ship finally safe, head diplomat and former Chief Justice Alba Espina can at last turn her attention to finding them a way home.
Or so she thinks.
And then the vicious raiders who hunt the edges of the alien system turn their sights on the alien capital, and once again, human lives are a potential bargaining chip for the aliens’ survival. Now, as Alba struggles to convince the aliens that humanity is worth saving, charming assassin Savina Maya and the government agent sent to hunt her down are thrust into a desperate, brutal guerrilla war to protect the human settlements and take down the aliens and raiders arrayed against them.
In the meantime, field-scientist Aran Romeu has finally found the cure he’s been desperately searching for—but doing so required him to sign on as raider crew. Now he’s got to find a way to keep his exceptionally bloodthirsty raider captain from burning the entire system to the ground, before everyone he cares about is killed.

About the author

R.M. Olson

34 books59 followers
R.M. Olson writes queer, feel-good space opera, featuring diverse casts, found families, and loads of action. R.M. has ridden the Trans Siberian railway, jumped off the highest bungee jump in the world, gone cage-diving with great white sharks, faced down a charging buffalo bull, and knows how to milk a goat. Currently they reside in Alberta, Canada with their four children, three cats, and a dog the size of a small bear. R.M. goes hiking and skiing more often than they probably have time for, eats more chocolate than is probably good for them, and reads more books than is probably prudent.

I love a great ending! As this is book 5, we've spent a lot of time with these characters, through their adventures and close-calls in a very hostile star system. We've seen their friendships and love interests develop and blossom. We've cheered for them and even cheered for the bad guys sometimes - when we weren't sure they actually were bad.
At the start of this series, I was sure the land-dwelling tree devil (Aran's Ani) was a bad guy. Reka, the raiders, and even the yibo were bad guys! Or are they? At some point in this series, 95% of the characters were bad guys. I love them all!
I definitely recommend this if you like your sci-fi soft, mysterious, and extremely entertaining.

Pardon my french, but holy fucking shit was this a fun book!
Olson really has a knack for pacing unlike any other author out there, and the wit and tonal balance of these stories are impeccable- especially here in Event Horizon!

Couldn't put it down

Another series of books that this author has hooked me into. Want to know the ending but will be sad when the series is done.
It really is a must read.
