So good!

Stardust & Shadows by #JanelleTaylor is a throwback from the 1992 & is book 2 of the series. I read this book way back when (it was my mom’s book!) & I have been thinking about it for weeks. So I decided to get the E-book to read it again! Dual POV.

The last thing Dr Jana Greyson, PHD remembers is falling asleep with Commander Varian Saar, her new fiancé, after being rescued from being kidnapped. She wakes up & Ryker (Varian’s half brother) is there telling her she has been deathly ill, the wedding had happened to each other & Varian was engaged to Cass (the woman who had kidnapped her.) Jana is convinced it is Varian pretending to be Ryker for some assignment as Varian is notorious for doing whatever it takes for an assignment, but then he’ll say something that makes her think it’s Ryker. 🤔 They make love (Jana is convinced it is Varian). Then the next morning she see a “live” news interview Varian talking about his upcoming wedding to Cass. Ryker continues to confuse Jana - is he or is he not Varian? Ryker & Jana leave on Varian’s starship to try to save Earth. Jana finally believes that Varian is not impersonating Ryker. She starts to believe in him, and starts to like him, though she is still in love with Varian. Ryker saves Earth. They head back home, then are kidnapped by a neighboring galaxy ruler. Ryker is able to get them to an escape pod & they land on a nearby planet. Ryker finally tells Jana the truth… he is Varian. Jana is furious with Varian & tells him there is no chance of them getting back together. They are rescued by Varian’s team. Jana agrees to help Varian finish the assignment. Jana finds out she is pregnant! She gives Varian 2 weeks to settle everything so that they can marry without the baby’s paternity coming into question. While waiting for Varian to get back, Jana is kidnapped (again?!?!) by Cass. Varian rescues her. They marry a short time later. Eek! Such a great book!

3 1/2 stars. Book 2 in the series and as book 1 the story line was good but too long and too many characters. This story continues on from book 1. Again parts were boring and seemed repetitive. I did purchase all the books but at this point I'll not continue until another time.

This is probably the hardest review I've written. I'm still not sure how much I liked it. I had no idea what it was about when I opened the pages and began the first chapter...alien abduction...falling in love with her captor...believing her love is his brother...the imposter fooling the grandpa; these were the things I was on the fence about. I step back and think, "This is a work of fiction about aliens. Anything can happen."

The heroine, Jana, was a strong character and I like that (although sometimes clueless). You wanted to say, "Wake up!! It's Varian! Your love." That frustration proves to me it was well written and evoked emotion. I would have given it four stars if I hadn't skipped over some portions because it lost my interest.

Please, take the time to read it and form your own opinion. I've never read this type of book, so possibly I'm still getting my sea legs :)

This was one of those "screw it I want some mindless fluff" books that I read years ago. I actually found it pretty entertaining and a decent story for the type of novel that it is. I wound up reading the entire four book series. It's by no means a great literary piece of work, but if all you're looking for is a fun story and some mindless sex scenes, these books are for you.
