This novella is a tale like no other. The story is both hopeful and inspiring, while still being dark and emotional. Its fantasy elements are unique, thoughtful, and well designed. The writing is fluid and easy to follow for children and adults alike, without being too juvenile in nature. You're left believing in magic and the braveness of children.

Hic sunt dracones!

The story is well told, in the fairy tale style. The author keeps the story moving, with just the right amount of detail. I recommend it, in particular for Middle Readers, or for family reading with children ages 8 to 13.

when I first read this novella, I was worried that it was too juvenile. but then I reminded myself: this is a children's campfire story and it's perfectly constructed as such! read this along Moore's other book, Vallen, to really understand some deep lore within the Cloudbreakers universe.
