Before writing a review, I must note that the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) is divided into three parts: multiple choice, Multistate essays and the Multistate Performance Test (MPT). The MPT generally (if not always) tasks the examinee to write, argue, create, devise a legal document of some sort by using a set of cases and statutes (usually made up) and applying the "law" to a set of "facts." Generally, external legal knowledge (real case law and statutes) is not required.
"What is so hard about that?" Says someone who has never taken the Bar Exam.
Among other difficulties, the time restraints, the amount of materials and how to actually write the required document makes the MPT "hard."
Dr. Gallagher's book, Perform Your Best on the Bar Exam Performance Test (MPT), breaks down the most common types of MPT tasks (the Office Memo, the Brief and the Letter) and skillfully demonstrates through examples how best to craft your answer/document. Additionally, Dr. Gallagher, in the book, sets up an outline of how much time the examinee should devote to certain aspects of reading and writing the MPT.
Further, what I found as probably the most helpful aspect of the book (and lectures) is what can best be described as a "matrix" (Dr. Gallagher's words) which helps the examinee breakdown the issues, connect the facts to the "law" and complete the task assigned.
Additionally, this book also has twelve (12) actual (tested) MPT tasks as well as an Analysis of the task, a model Answer and how best to utilize each document in the MPT.
I recommend this book (as well as the class if you have the time and the money) to anyone who is studying for the UBE or a State Bar Exam that has a MPT task portion.
As the saying goes, "Work Smarter, Not Harder!"
I might add "Learn the Tricks of the Trade, and You Will Have Displayed a Work Worthy of Accolade."
**I took Dr. Gallagher's MPT course through BarWrite, which utilized this book in a lecture and exam type setting to better improve my skills, at least on the MPT.

This book promises a lot about scoring at the MPT test, but the reality is that this is just promises. This book does not offer more than you can do properly with your regular bar review package. Bar reviews are great at helping law students to pass the bar exam, courses are really helpful, books are just not efficient enough. If I have an advice is focusing on your ability to solve problem and the tips that the bar reviews give you. In fact, this book will not help more than you bar review courses.
