Painting wet-to-wet is a basic watercolour technique, but also one that can be difficult to master. In this technique, the artist washes colour in varying degress of wetness onto a wet surface. There the colour blends and blurs and can be hard to control; but with practice, the results can be lush and lively luminous colours. This book addresses the complete range of wet applications - from slightly wet to fully wet - that are possible when working with wet paint on saturated paper. It features 15 detailed demonstrations that clearly show how to incoporate these effects when painting flowers, landscapes, trees, skies, snow scenes, water, reflections, shadows and buildings.
Gail Speckmann of Plymouth, Minnesota is an international award-winning watercolor artist, instructor, judge, and author. Her book, Wet-into-Wet Watercolor (Watson-Guptill), is considered one of most definitive instructions of this challenging technique. She had conducted classes throughout North America and several European countries. Gail’s travel experiences have had a broadening influence on her painting. Her subject matter includes landscapes, florals, still life and abstracts. She is most recognized for her wet-into-wet technique, strong color, and composition.
Gail’s paintings and reproduction prints are hung throughout the country in both residential and business environments. She maintains a substantial inventory, but also will do work on a commission basis. She has her signature membership in Watercolor West, a national transparent watercolor society. She has judged several state and regional shows including Minnesota State Fair Art Exhibition (watercolor division), Creative Arts Center Annual Exhibition (Chatham, MA), “Arts in Harmony” (national), Artists of Minnesota’s annual exhibition, & “Extremely Minnesota” annual competition. Gail is listed in Who’s Who in America. She has led 11 European “Sights & Sounds” Tours.
In recent years, Gail has written a considerable volume of poetry and has had work published in written form, in addition to public performances of her work on stage and as musical lyrics.
Gail is not only a master watercolorist, having won national and international competitions, but she is also a master teacher, involving the student in every step of the process, and providing plenty of full-color examples to 'get your feet wet'.Ii highly recommend the book, and also her in-person classes.
