Christo (short for Christopher, but modelling himself on The Count of Monte Cristo (an excellent adventure despite being I-don't-know-how-old)) is one of those lads with a car and money to burn on petrol, and he and his mates race down Deadwater Lane and gather at the end where girls from the local college come to watch, and rev their engines and annoy the neighbours. Deadwater Lane by Stephen Barker starts with a slow wind-up that ends in a nicely fevered pitch, a fantastic modern classic style novel for Young Adult readers, it has all the elements that one loves to see offered to younger readers and those with miles on the tires as well.

[2013-01-18] Read this in 3 sittings - I enjoyed the story, have the over- and often incorrect use of semi-colons. A longer review will follow.
