the setup…
Former Navy SEAL Jonah (Steady) Lockhart, now a Bishop Security operative, has a reputation of being a casual sort of guy when it comes to relationships and he’s very clear about that. But about a year ago, a pink-haired beauty moved next door and is doing more than causing him a distraction. Verity (Very) Valentine works for Parasol Pharmaceuticals and never misses an opportunity to needle and tease Steady but it’s clear to both of them they share an attraction they’re trying hard to not give into. See, she’s in South Carolina for a very specific purpose…to surreptitiously take down Armand Krill, the head of Parasol and the man that murdered her mother. But Steady senses something is up and is determined to protect her.
the heart of the story…
I’ve watched Steady and Very play this game beginning in earlier stories and was glad to finally see them at center stage. The romance lived up to my expectations but the suspense around what Very was attempting to do had me enthralled. There were times I found her reckless, or it least it seemed so, and others where I admired her courage. However, I was unprepared for the massive twist around the bend that caught me flatfooted! The plan was über clever and imaginative at every level. Rarely do I find myself this blindsided in a mystery with this level of suspense and intrigue.
the bottom line…
Neither Steady or Very believed in long-term relationships, each for different reasons, so it was wonderful not only to see them find love with each other but to slay those dragons that created those walls. It wasn’t an easy road but they behaved maturely in dealing with their obstacles. The drama around the takedown of Armand Krill, however, was utterly fascinating, one of the most imaginative and creative plans I’ve seen in sometime. Again, I never saw it coming so well done! Oh! And there’s a wonderful service dog named Tilly you’re going to want to meet. I’m loving this series.

If you are a fan of the classic movie "The Sting" you are going to love this book. No one is who they appear to be. The revenge is sweet and even if the baddie doesn't get his just deserves, he gets a boatload of trouble. I loved the heroine, Very, and the hero, Steady. They made a hot couple and they both had to overcome trust issues to be together. They have been dancing around each other for quite some time. Very, especially, was a multi-layered character and hard to warm up to. Steady showed some deep, painful places and had a surprising backstory. With several books and multiple characters, I felt the rehash was overly long and burdensome. The story could have benefited from less of it.
Jonah "Steady" Lockhart is a former Navy SEAL who is now working for the Bishop Security Agency. His next-door neighbor has been driving him nuts since she moved in and one night, he makes his move only to have his playbook upended and Very out the door, but not out of his blood. When Steady realizes he has been played, he has to reevaluate this pink haired woman with the dynamic personality. For now, he's keeping his distance.
Verity "Very" Valentine is a researcher with Parasol Pharmaceuticals working on their latest drugs. She lives next door to Steady on the beach in Beaufort, South Carolina. But her main objective is revenge against Armand Krill, CEO of Parasol and the man who murdered her mother. She and her accomplice, Charles Darwin, have devised a wonderful plan to bring him to justice, but there is just one hitch - the hot, nosey neighbor keeps showing up at inopportune times and comes close to wrecking all their hard work and plans.
As Steady starts to observe Very closely, she starts to act differently. When he sees a stranger spying on her he gives chase only to lose the guy. Something is up and Steady has a bad vibe about it all especially when Very has a late-night meeting and a mysterious hand off.
Very has worked long and hard to put her plan for revenge into action and she doesn't want her hot neighbor spoiling everything. She loves how protective he is, no one has cared for her safety in a while, but this is not the time for her to give in to the growing attraction. She needs to focus on her objective. Keeping Steady distracted by keeping him close has backfired and Very finds herself falling for him instead of keeping him at a distance. Very finds that best laid plans, etc. and is glad that Steady has her back and her heart when she need him most.

Verity Valentine, known as Very, is on a mission to take down Armond Krill, owner of Parasol Pharmaceuticals where she works. Krill’s company is about to release a miracle drug that will help those with serious arthritis issues, even though Krill knows that its main side effect can be treated only by another drug that his organization produces. Very has been working for years as an employee of Krill’s corporation, and is using her position to get the proof that shows what the company has been doing. Meanwhile, her next door neighbor, Jonah “Steady” Lockhart has made Very aware of his interest in her. Neither one of them is ready for a real relationship but can’t seem to keep their hands off one another.
Chemical Capture is the fifth book in the Bishop Security series, and all of the couples from previous books appear in this story. The mystery in this book takes lots of very satisfying twists and turns, and the romance between the two protagonists is enjoyable if not overly emotional. The banter is amusing and many of the romantic situations are unique, making this a very entertaining romantic suspense. Overall, Chemical Capture is a well developed, fun novel. 4 1/2 stars

OMG!!! This book is hands down my favorite in the series. I fell absolutely in love with Steady and Very!
Steady and. Very’s story was perfection. They were made for one another. The moment Very moved into the beach house next door, Steady’s future became carved in stone. The author Debbie Baldwin has been dropping tiny nuggets of their romance for a few books now and I was so glad to get the whole story.
This book has espionage and danger lurking around every corner. It is a page turner of adventure and snarky attitudes. In this book we finally get the whole story behind the mysterious pink haired girl who has stolen our dear Steady’s heart. And wow! It’s a big secret to reveal. We also learns some interesting things about Steady’s past and I got to say, it is not pretty. It made my blood boil and ache at the same time.
This non-stop adventure is mysterious and intriguing. There are some trigger warnings that I should highlight such as mental abuse, physical abuse, unwanted sexual advances and kidnapping.
Debbie did an excellent job writing the Bishop Security Teams stories. Her writing skills are amazing and her stories truly come to life. If there were movies about these guys I would be first in line to see them. They all conquer past histories that have damaged their mental and physical well beings, to fall in love and be the hero in the eyes of their dear ones. An oddball family of sorts, but non the less a family.
This book was fun to read, yet it was emotional and soul crushing at times. It was an edge of the seat thriller with a great main character setup. Very is highly intelligent and very sneaky. Steady is the hero waiting in the shadows never taking his eye off the prize.
Overall I enjoyed this book immensely and really hope that Miles gets a story. His cameo in this book has me intrigued about the man of many secrets. He is mysterious and fun. He really has a unique set of skills and I would love to read move about him. Patiently awaiting an announcement to continue on from here.

Jonah Lockhart (Steady) is a former Navy SEAL, recovering from a bullet wound. He is renovating his parents’ beach house which happens to be next door to Very’s rental house. When he meets Very, he feels an immediate attraction. The attraction is mutual, but Very has a plan and she needs for Steady to stay away. When Steady discovers that Very is being watched, he decides to keep an eye out for her. He knows something is wrong and he as he works to unravel the secrets, Very warns him to stay away. He can’t! But when things start to go wrong, Very needs Steady!
This romantic suspense story has a strong plot and it is very well-written. I especially loved the suspense elements and the twists. The camaraderie and chemistry between Very and Steady is perfect. I loved the setting as this story takes place in my stomping grounds off the coast of South Carolina, in and around Beaufort.
If you love romantic suspense you will really enjoy this series. Each book is a stand-alone book with cameo appearances by characters in the other books. I found the cast of characters listed at the beginning to be very helpful, as I tend to confuse so many characters with nicknames! This book gets all the stars for me!

This book can be read as a stand alone or as a series/collection, This is my first I’ve read but will be getting the others to read as well!
The spicy scenes were on point with the build up, The back and forth revenge and banter was great!
I love strong Female Characters and this book didn’t disappoint with that role!
Overall a 5/5 star read that I’ll forever recommend, I cannot wait to pick up some of her other books to add to my list!

AMAZON PRIME!!! Here’s your next blockbuster series!!!
Every time I finish a book in The Bishop Security Series, I think, “Well, she’s never going to be able to top that.” But Debbie Baldwin does it again!!! This twisty, romantic, spicy story had me up late. I wanted to read ahead to find out what happens, but I didn’t want to miss a page of this masterfully crafted story. It’s a fun, sexy read that delivers a jackpot of a payoff at the end.
Very and Steady are constantly antagonizing one another. They don’t want to admit their attraction, so they constantly argue and push each other’s buttons. Until one night, when Steady saves Very (short for Verity) from an aggressive guy, their attraction explodes. Very has to keep Steady out of her personal life because she is planning something big at her job, and if Steady starts getting nosy, he could ruin everything.
Very works for a pharmaceutical company, and she knows the evil CEO is responsible for her mother’s death. So Very has an elaborate plan to bring the guy down and get revenge. I don’t want to say anything more because O.M.G. The twists in the story are fantastic, and the romance had me hugging my Kindle. The characters, the plot, everything was a chef’s kiss. All the stars!!!

This book and series is just so good. The writing is exceptional it flows so well. This book had me completely hooked and I just couldn’t stop reading. Steady- there are no words! One of my all time favourite leading man! Verity was great too. I loved all the characters from previous books appearing and I can’t wait to read more of them in future books. this book had everything I love in a romantic suspense. Brilliant characters, humour, heat and action! This is on my top 5 books I’ve read this year and I read lots! I highly recommend. 5 stars all the way. Now I just need book 6 please!

Amazing!!! This is the first book I’ve read by Debbie and now I need to go read the others!!! This book was beyond amazing and needs to be a TV series!!! Steady is one of the top book guys I LOVE!! Very and Steady we’re amazing and the chemistry kept me intrigued!! Loved this Romantic suspense! Highly recommended!!

This was a very interesting book. It is about a group of friends who would do anything to help one another. When Very finds herself in trouble, her friends are there to help her out-even when she's too stubborn to ask. Chemical Capture has many twists and turns you won't see coming.

MY JAW IS STILL ON THE GROUND!!!! I literally cannot wait for this book to be made into a movie. It’s inspired by 70s classic The Sting and I was so there for it! Very and Steady are my new favorite couple and Steady is the perfect book boyfriend. I don’t even want to give away the plot. Suffice it to say Very is out for revenge against her evil boss who killed her mother many years ago. She has an elaborate scheme set up and Steady could mess everything up in his misguided efforts to protect her. The way the pieces of the puzzle fall into play is so fantastic. I wish I could go back and read it again for the first time. Keep the Bishop Security Series coming!

I took Chemical Capture on vacay with my daughter to celebrate her HS graduation. She must have been INCREDIBLY frustrated with me as I neglected her (not really) bc I just couldn’t pry myself from this captivating novel.
I’m not gonna spoil it, but if you like thrillers, get it. Picture a smart, cool, spunky woman who falls in love with her HOT neighbor (who happens to possess a unique set of skills) STEAMY!!

This was an awesome read, this has me spiraling into my romantic suspense era. When a good suspense plot takes on a romance mixed into the plot line, all of my buttons are pressed. And as a dedicated suspense/thriller reader, I can tell you I was not prepared for some of the twists in this book! It was so good! I haven’t read the other books in this series, and this can definitely be read as a standalone, but I am going to do a deep dive into Debbie Baldwin’s backlist! This definitely won’t be the last book I read by her.
Steady is unflappable, hence the nicknames. He once got back to his helicopter and flew his team back to safety with a freaking broken leg. But when a certain pink haired woman moves next door, he is shaken. She is smart, gorgeous, and he is drawn to her like a moth to flame. But she doesn’t want anything to do with him, because she’s got enough going on in her life. But when he spots a man skulking in his yard, his instincts take over, and his instincts tell him someone is after Very.

This book was not what I had expected by the title, seeing Chemical Capture on the front you would not expect such an amazing romance. The author definitely held all my focus while I was reading this amazing book. I found myself not wanting to stop reading it. Which is why I finished it in 2 days.
Verity Valentine (Very) is a researcher for a pharmaceutical company, she had taken the job to get more information on the person responsible for her mother’s death. Jonah Lockheart (Steady) is a former navy seal who is now working at a security agency.
They meet when she moves in next door, he is immediately captivated my her, despite her bright pink hair. while she is working on her case and he is watching out for her, he is to keep her safe. She was focused on revenge while he was focused on her safety. He became more concerned when he saw her having a late-night meeting and he see what he thinks is some sort of handoff.
Very and Steady build their relationship while still following through with their plans. Her plans did not go the way they were supposed to when she decided to go off plan. Somewhere in the middle of all the plans, they fall in love. Neither of them planned it, but they both went along with it. She learns who Trill really is, the man behind the company and the Dr. who was responsible for her mother’s death. Her grandfather and an all-around terrible guy.
Will Very get her revenge on the doctor who was responsible for her mother’s death? Will her and Steady have a future together? I don’t want to spoil the end of this amazing book for you so I will just say, you need to read this book.

This was something they had to eventually overcome in order to trust each other. But my favorite part of the book was the plan to get even with Armand Krill. If you're running a con, you must make sure the target doesn't know he has been conned. I wasn't sure where the story was going or how exactly Very was going to pull this off. There were a few surprises along the way. It was fun to follow along. My rating: 5 Stars.

Author Debbie Baldwin has delivered yet another intriguing and suspense-filled romance masterpiece in “Chemical Capture”. This is the fifth installment of her Bishop Security series. Believe me when I tell you that Ms. Baldwin creates a story that’s hard to put down. Verity “Very” Valentine is on a mission to right wrongs of the past and present, and yes, it’s personal. Jonah “Steady” Lockhart, is intrigued by his mysterious neighbor and finds himself wanting to help her.
I love a story that keeps me guessing even when I think I’ve figured it out. Even though I’ve read all the books in this series and know the players, I still had no clue how elaborate things were until the big reveal. The push and pull between these two strong-willed individuals as they fight against what they are feeling is as entertaining as it is frustrating. This is one well-earned HEA. Romantic suspense lovers, you do not want to miss this one!

This series continues to impress.
I'll start off by saying I'm useless at predicting what's going to happen in suspense novels, there's never a "ah-ha! I've worked it out!" moment for me. I thought I might have had an inkling on the background machinations in Chemical Capture, but NOPE. Debbie has a way of having so many threads interweaving, sub-characters that pop up and make me wonder how on earth I missed picking up on whatever clues. The thing is, the clues are so buried that I never had a chance.
Very and Steady make for a great couple, the way she pushes his buttons like no-one else is a delight, and she manages to get under his coping mechanisms, and then he in turn does the same. It was lovely watching that side of things unfold.
The friendships and supporting relationships between all the characters continues to evolve across the series, and I'm here for it. I'm going to be so sad when I get to the final book ... unless of course, another one is announced in the interim. I'd be quite happy for another 3-4 books in this series - no pressure. There's no sense that the author is flogging a dead horse with these characters, because they are all so layered that there will always be some sort of story and growth to mine with these people.

Ok but the suspense was so SUSPENSEFUL. At one point I was legitimately terrified for Very and wanted her to take all the outs and let someone else topple this corrupt empire. Very is a boss though 💪🏽 and stuck with her plans.
The last part even had a fun reveal I did NOT see coming!!!! It’s the best when a book can surprise me.

I have seen this series around but have not yet checked it out until now. This book can be read as a standalone book. Although, after reading this book, i do now really want to go back and read all the prior books in this series. As soon, as I picked up this book I was hooked in the storyline as well s the characters. This book was a one day read for me.
I loved that Very and Steady relationship was a slow burn one. It fit better with the story. In addition, that the few intimate scenes they shared together were that much hotter due to the buildup. Krill is the type of bad guy that you do love to hate. I could not wait to see him "fall". It was done in a great way. Which moved fast in the final section of this book titled "The Slip". Chemical Capture may be a slow burn romance but a fast must read!

Debbie Baldwin has done it again! She has crafted a twisty, turny, mysterious, spicy read that I was all in for. I could not put this book down! It had my attention from the first page, and I did not want it to end. But let us talk about that ending, it is phenomenal! I did not see half of it coming and my jaw is still on the floor.
I have a new favorite couple in the Bishop Security universe, and it is Very and Steady. The sexual tension sparks off them like fireworks. They are fun, smartasses, who are both hiding from their past. Each trying to trust and learn to lean on one another, as Very's world seems to be on the edge of imploding. Steady knows something is up, he just cannot put his finger on it. Is she being evasive because she is not into him or is there something more to her story? Let me just say there is so much more to both of their stories.
You need to read this book and the rest of the series. I promise, you will love them! The characters are fun and pull you into their lives. I must say this is my favorite book so far. The story is intense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I raced through it needing to know what was going to happen next. Thank you to Debbie Baldwin for gifting me your book! Another ringer for Debbie Baldwin! I haven't met a book by Debbie that I haven't loved. We have a beautiful and ballsy leading lady hell bent on serving up some serious revenge. There's a bold badass and former Navy Seal. They drive each other crazy while feeling the attraction. Soon there is some serious spice to add to the already suspenseful storyline. Some books claim twists, this book serves them. A lot. The ending is jaw dropping and wonderful. The only thing I didn't like were the characters names. Every time I saw Very - the female character - my brain scrambled. With all the names out there, surely something would work better than an adverb? Steady - the male character - was better but only barely.

This book was excellently written! I enjoyed every minute of reading it! The twists and turns were great! You didn't know what was going to happen next because it was non-stop suspense and action! There were some unexpected surprises that totally delighted me when they were revealed they were so cleverly hidden! I highly recommend this book and all of Debbie Baldwin's books. They are very high quality romantic suspense books that keep you guessing throughout with intriguing plots and very likeable characters. This one especially is a mystery lovers delight.....it is very hard to come up with a truly unique story line but Debbie Baldwin managed to do just that in this very suspenseful story! 😇

Seriously, I was ready to finish this book and take a break from the series but then that epic reveal near the end blew my plan to bits.
If Steady were my Big Dope I sure as hell wouldn’t have taken so long to admit it, and I hated a bit how they seem to hold back (something the other couples hadn’t done before) but it was worth the hassle to see how they came together.
Damn series keeps getting better and better.
I swear no one is paying me to write these, but I feel like I should totally pay more for having the privilege to read it.

Action packed and cute love story
Such a quick and fast paced read, I couldn't put it down. I made the mistake of starting it on a break at work and then didn't want to out it down. I really loved how the author put a character list with their nicknames and descriptions at the beginning! This story was so cute and tons of action packed in! I just wish I had read the other ones before this one.

Okay this is the first book I read in this series and I can't wait to read more!!! It was amazing! It flowed beautiful 🥹 the details were AMAZING 🥹🥹🥹 And in my opinion it was a complete page turner!

I haven't read anything from this author but the blurb sounded so good I had to jump on it and I'm glad I did.
This book was perfection and the twist and turns had my jaw on the floor. There is mystery, romance, friendship, grief, and so much more. This is, in my opinion, a must read!!!

Best one so far.
I’ve enjoyed this series and every book I e read in it to date. But this one, I really liked. A lot.
