Highly recommended for those who visit Rome and wonder what those magnificent architecture originally looked like. It’s really fun to flip through the pages and compare the buildings with the overlay illustrations. It makes you realize that the buildings today are just 10% of the original beauty and make you marvel even more. The text is dry honestly, but the illustrations are worth buying the book for.
The best part of this book are the flip pages, where you can compare current Roman sites with how they might have looked in ancient times. The history write-ups are OK but the writing doesn’t make the information come alive in the same way the photos do. This book is a good keepsake for those visiting Rome.
Bought this guid book in Rome, it is fun, because it has plastic sheets that cover pictures of some of the major Roman Monuments that show what the monuments looked like in their hey-day. The pictures are accompanied by text describing the purpose of the buildings.
I enjoyed " revisiting" the places I saw on my trip to Rome with this cute book. It is fun to flip through and see how the ancient places originally looked. It also gives a nice, concise history that helped me remember some of the details I had forgotten.
