Having read Scott Kelby's - The Digital Photography Book 1-3, I knew what to expect in his guide to Adobe Lightroom 4. I have to say that I am less than enamoured with his talky, jokey writing style but the facts are clear and he is very straightforward and methodical in his explanations, exactly what is needed for what is, after all, a practical text book.
So, sight unseen, I chose Scott Kelby's Lightroom book over other possibilities. It delivered. The presets that come with the book via downlo

Excellent book - easy to read instructions and beautifully illustrated book that explains how to use Photoshop Lightroom to edit photos on the computer. Must have book if you have Lightroom.

Kelby's chatty, goof-ball style is one of those things you love or hate, but his knowledge of photography and Adobe products is rock solid, as is his ability to present them in a very usable fashion. Scott is a photographer first, a teacher second and a software expert third, and quite capable at all three. He makes his approach transparent, revealing his thought process, his framework and approach in a manner that's eminently understandable. Ultimately, he teaches how to use photographic tools ...more

I would certainly not recommend this book for a novice.
The author has no clue how to teach the very basics of beginning to understand how Lightroom works.
Unless you have a photographic memory, can memorize 488 pages before beginning, you are out of luck in understanding Lightroom.
Suggest you find another book on the subject.
Again, useless book it was for myself.

Like many of Scott's books I like this one as well.
Someone else said it too, you love his humor or you hate it (the jokes are probably better in the original language :P ) but his knowledge and way of explaining it all are great.

Exceptionally well laid out and easy to follow tour of Lightroom 4. Kelby shows you his own workflow while giving you the tools to set your own preferences. This book does a great job at unlocking all the potential of Lightroom.

This book was recommended via many websites as the best for learning Lightroom and I don't regret buying it. It is an easy book to read and has a logical progression for learning the right info at the right time. I recommend this book for anyone learning Adobe Lightroom.

useful. Kelby is American and has a 'cute' American sense of humour which is fine if restrained but if not, gets old very quickly. However, these sections do announce themselves quite loudly and can be bypassed without further undue harm to the psyche.

He's easy reading, light hearted, and FULL of great information. When it comes it books on the "how to" of photography, he's the man.
