Very good book. Excellent words of wisdom to reflect on. She has a lot of personal stories that make it nice to read and relate to and understand concepts. I'm always striving to control my emotions better and this helped.
This was my go to guide for the Bible study for the book Unglued by Lysa TerKeurst. The purpose of the participant's guide to help you review, ask questions, and make points about the study as you progress through the sessions in the book. You will definitely need this whenever you get the Unglued book. If you have not done this study with a friend Please grab a copy, you will enjoy it and feel so much lighter when you are finished. I am going to post my review of the book Unglued by Lysa TerKeurst below. Grab a friend and do this Bible study!
Oh I loved doing a Bible study with this book! I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. I am one of those people where I have tried so hard to do bible study books by myself and I always end up feeling overwhelmed or discouraged with trying to get my feelings down on paper or sort through them myself. So one of my friends and I were like hey, I've always wanted to do a Bible study with a friend, do you want to do this together? Oh what a difference that makes, when you have someone cheering you on, crying, and laughing with you about how crazy life can be sometimes. You don't have to have a huge group of people to do a Bible study ask one your good friends and see if they would like to do it with you. We didn't have to schedule out time in our busy weeks. We would just find somewhere quite and Facetime one another. Don't have Facetime? That's fine, if you have a Facebook profile then you can video chat using Facebook messenger. Don't have a Facebook profile? That's fine too, just download the app Skype and get to video chatting. Aside from all of that, this was a truly wonderful Bible study that really made me look at myself and my perceptions of the situations and people around me differently. And the most important thing that came from this book was that I grew as a woman, daughter, sister, and Christian. I highly recommend this, please grab a friend and start this study, you will love it!!
**If you want to my review on the actual book you can find it within the shelves I stored it in.
I give this book 5/5! It was amazing just like the book. If you are reading the book just by itself and not for a Bible study, you could not use the participants guide-- but I would highly recommend you do! The participants guide really gets in the nitty and gritty that the book doesn't. The book paves the way, and the participants guide makes you open up and realize things you need or might want to change or help you see things differently.
Like I said my my review of the book, I did this with my friend for our weekly Bible study sessions. We loved it so much! We prefer to keep our "group" small with just the two of us. If you prefer larger groups, go for it. We preferred the smaller and more intimate setting, because we felt more comfortable that way, and you may too. So if you're iffy about being in a large Bible study group, just see if one of your close friend(s) wants to do one with you!💗
And if you can't be with your friend(s) in person, you can video chat! That's what my friend and I did! If you have a smartphone, you can download free apps for video chatting if your phone isn't already equipped with one.😁 My friend and I use FaceTime, but there are so many free apps for phones and computers! I've used the app Tango before and it works amazingly! Skype is also a very popular and well-known one!❤️ If all else fails or you have bad internet (like me) you can always just do it over the phone! Sometimes when it would rain an the internet wouldn't work, my friend and I would just chat over the phone.😁 Easy peasy!
Overall I give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and highly recommend it to go along with the book.
I did the Unglued study with my Bible study group, and completed this guide while reading the actual book. I loved the format: daily "assignments" for the six days after your Bible study, and then questions to discuss when you meet with your group. The assignments were perfect and manageable - they were broken up into reading the Unglued book some days and reflecting on your own behavior and reasons for your behavior on the other days. I found this study to be very thoughtful and introspective, and I also loved how it encouraged friendship among participants. I would love to try another Lysa study!!
Life changing! Gave me a much needed change in perspective I hadn't found in any other way. I was definitely ready to read this book. The daily challenges helped me identify my thought processes that were preventing me from being truly content and happy in life. I was able to practice better thought choices and have more compassion for others rather than letting people annoy me. :)
If you find people irritate you more than you wish they did than READ THIS BOOK! Changed my life and I'm never going back. Thank you God for speaking through Lysa TerKeurst.
I wish this study had more scripture work in it. Also, I don't feel the purchase of the accompanying book is necessary for the study. She reiterated most of it in the workbook and the videos that go along with the study.
Not overly fond of the layout of this participant's guide. For me, it was just better to take my own notes on the videos and use the book itself to highlight what was important to me.
The perfect companion to Lysa’s book Unglued. It was a great tool for digging deeper and really searching your heart for what is causing your unglued reactions and also a way to map out what you need to do to create imperfect progress in your life.
The women's ministry at my church did this study together as a whole, and my own group enjoyed it so much that we have voted to do another Lysa Terkeurst study together next. ("Becoming More Than Just a Good Bible Study Girl.") Lysa is a good speaker (on the related videos) and a writer with funny stories illustrating her point. She seems to have thoroughly thought out this issue of controling wild emotions. The discussion questions worked well for our group, and the discussion included both honest self-evaluation and encouragement for each other. We had a good group.
To be fair, we had one member of the group decide not to do this study with us because she didn't think it had enough of the Bible in it. I think it had more Bible in it than that member realized, because this participant's guide was meant to be used with the main book, "Unglued: Making Wise Choices in the Midst of Raw Emotions." That book had more scripture with it, as did the video component of the series. Having said that, the daily participant's guide portion of the study did not always reference the Bible, particularly early on, when it had you chart and analyze your "before" picture of how you react to strong emotions. Then, it led us through scripture, and there were occasional other days spent on introspection and self-evaluation to see how you were growing in these areas. As for myself personally, if I felt like I was missing God in a particular day, I would just read something else from Him in addition to this study. I realize not everyone has the time or the inclination for that.
One lady joked that doing this study sets you up to finding yourself more tested in this area. I'm not sure that's really true, or if it just causes you to pay more attention to it. But Lysa's tone is very gentle and encouraging, especially about taking small steps towards progress rather than mastering issues all at once.
Favorite quotes: (About the woman at the well in John 8), "He first extends grace and then invites the woman to build a whole new life on that foundation. She doesn't change in order to receive Jesus' approval; she changes as a response to His love."
"I give grace because I so desperately need grace."
"I remember I'm not a slave to my feelings."
"True peacekeeping is about properly processing my emotions before they get stuffed."
"Give me the courage and strength I need to be gentle."
"We're not responsible for figuring it all out. Our job is simply to be obedient to God in the midst of what we're facing, God's job is results."
