Betty's memoir is the story of one woman's struggle to liberate female sexuality while enjoying her own. In the 70s as the feminist movement evolved focusing on various platform issues (equal pay, voter registration) Betty latched on to sexual liberation as a symbol for self-empowerment.

Realizing that so many women weren't enjoying sex she asked, "How could women ever be t

Excellent nonfiction about sex. But it’s missing pictures available in the Kindle version. And I wanted more about STDs.

I BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE OF THE NARRATOR:
Authors: one way to get people to read your books is to have a great narrator. The best ones have fans. I wanted to buy more books narrated by Barbara Rosenblat, and this was on her list. I might never have seen it or bought it otherwise. The narrator was great. I was believing that she was Betty.

Loved it. Highlighted and noted much of it, either for story prompts or some relation to my life (relating or wanting to remember), and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I love Betty's sense of humour. I am a huge fan of Betty Dodson, and this book was both historically interesting and intriguing. Betty is a courageous personality who pushed herself and the culture forward. I also felt like i was listening to erotica/literary porn much of the time, so this is not for the faint of heart. As a student and instructor of Human Sexuality, this was a valuable investment of my time. The fam ...more

Only for those with an open mind and not easily offended. Betty shares her life story in this book and she manages to shock the reader but elicit sympathy all at the same time. I found myself rooting for Betty all the way through her youth to her older years.

Betty Dodson is an American sex educator, author, and artist. Dodson held the first one-woman show of erotic art at the Wickersham Gallery in New York City in 1968. She left the art world to teach sex to women. She is widely known as a pioneer in women's, and to a somewhat lesser extent men's, sexual liberation, having sold more than 1 million copies of her first book, Sex for One. Much of her fam ...more
