One Hit Wonder starts with the road trip we all take - the one you remember years later; the one when everything changed. This story is about the groupie who wasn’t, the lead singer who wasn’t, and the decisions we all make on our journey to happiness. Audrey and John are flawed, talented, and wonderful. Denyse Cohen tells this story in her own unique voice with occasional whimsical descriptions of life on the road and in L.A. If you love realistic stories with strong well-matched couples and ...more

I really enjoyed reading "One Hit Wonder" by Denyse Cohen. After Audrey posts on Facebook about being laid-off, a long-lost childhood friend Matt offers her a job to photograph his wannabe rock band on tour. The other band members are Tyler, John, and Kevin. Bill was their manager who rented a RV (a.k.a tour bus) and Rob is the driver. Audrey would travel with the band in a Winnebago from city to city until the last stop in Austin, Texas. Audrey isn't prepared for life on the road with the

"One Hit Wonder" opens with the hangover from hell and ends with happily-ever-after for Audrey and John, the couple who travel the long road between those two events. At the beginning of the story, Audrey has lost her job and her way. An old high school friend, who's found her on Facebook, offers her a chance to use her skills as a photographer on a road trip with his band. On the road trip she meets John, the driving force behind the band. A relationship developes, culminating in the song John ...more

I thought it was well written and packed with a lot of varying emotions. When the blurb said "jealousy, betrayal, and gut-wrenching sorrow", 'twas not a lie. I thought this was a very sweet romance that showed love can survive rather difficult obstacles life throws at you. The HEA was a huge pay off for me in the end because I rooted for Audrey and John the whole way. You honestly can't help but pull for them. One Hit Wonder is a very sweet, satisfying read in my opinion. I'll be waiting to ...more

Recommends it for: romance readers
Success doesn't come cheap. One Hit Wonder follows a small time band on their journey from obscurity to instant celebrity and demonstrates the downside of being catapulted at your dream before you can even catch your breath. The irony is that the bonds they formed along the way are frayed and the deeply personal love ballad written by the band's leader for the woman he loves threatens the very relationship he celebrated in song. This is a moving story and you find yourself pulling for the ...more

Set in the difficult world of the music business, One Hit Wonder is a finely woven plot of a group of friends striving to realise their dream of making it in the music business and finding love along the way. The appropriately titled novel is a romance story laced with love, loss and finally finding ones’ self and each other.
The heroin, Audrey is a typical young woman muddling through life, hoping to find her path. Cynical about love, her attraction to John came as a surprise and so did the love

"One Hit Wonder" by the tremendously gifted Denyse Cohen is a novel that should appeal to a wide variety of readers. While the plot itself is intriguing enough on its own terms and the personality of Audrey (the main character)is clearly and vividly portrayed, what I personally found to be the most striking aspect of this novel was its moments of superb descriptive writing.

In keeping with the subject matter, there are appropriately sections of dialogue that sound casual, realistic, and

One Hit Wonder by Denyse Cohen is a lovely story about Audrey (love the name by the way) who ends up out of a job and hating life. That is until she is invited to become the photographer to a sexy man band.

I really liked the main character. She's funny, sometimes wondering "what the heck am I doing", and quite engaging. She was a person I could imagine being friends with. I like reading novels about people I believe could actually exist.

The only flaw is, the male characters of the rock band

Just finished writing a review only to have Goodreads gobble it up and spit it into cyberspace somewhere irretrievable...alas...instead of that review, this will be the quick run-down of what I remember saying:
-“One Hit Wonder” started off with a good, fast-paced beginning and kept it up. I felt like the courtship was a little quick (because I love drawn-out sexual tension), but by the middle it hit a good pace.
- I was rooting for John and Audrey, but I felt like I missed out on the rest of the

Audrey’s at a crossroads. She’s been laid off from the job she hated and has no idea what she wants to do next. So when her childhood friend, Matt, asks her to come on tour with his band to document their next trip, she grabs her camera, packs a bag and heads off to find her destiny.

And as she, Matt and his bandmates travel from town to town playing bars and local festivals, she and the band’s leader John find themselves inextricably attracted to each other. And when a YouTube video of his love

Denyse Cohen provides a nicely developed contemporary romance where, as the reader might hope, the 'girl gets the guy' in the end. What sets Cohen's story apart is the road trip setting where Aubrey (our protag) is trying to 'find' herself while photographing and promoting the rock band she's traveling with. The interactions and relationships with the guys in the band - while trying to catch the eye of her favorite, John - makes for the requisite tension that moves the story forward. I'm not ...more

One Hit Wonder is a story that reeled me in and held onto me throughout the story. I always know a book is good, when I have a hard time putting it down. I devoured this book in one day and am kinda sad it's over. This is a story about a small time band on their journey to fame. A romantic story laced with love, loss and finally finding ones’ self and each other. The book’s blurb states "jealousy, betrayal, and gut-wrenching sorrow", and this was not a lie. I thoroughly enjoyed Denyse's One Hit Wonder. It had just the right amount of heat for a love story- sexy, but not raunchy. The main character exemplified someone with a laid back approach to life brewed with a sense of adventure. I particularly enjoyed the scenes that took place in Columbia, SC which is right outside of my own hometown. She portrayed it perfectly. Denyse is an excellent writer and I am in awe of her ability to write in her second language. Trying to picture myself publishing a ...more

A fun contemporary romance about a band and their newly-hired photographer who goes from playing local festivals to big-time musical notoriety with one, romantic song. I enjoyed riding along on the tour bus, seeing how they lived and what went on behind the stage. The band members were each unique and interesting. The love story is strong, sweet, and slow, just like John, the book's hero. The heroine, Audrey's background was fascinating. A very different twist to the story, which gave the book's ...more

Denyse Cohen created wonderfully believable characters here. Audrey is relatable as she struggled to carve out an identity independent of her work and family. I love how she refuses to let others define her, even as it complicates her romantic relationship with John. Also kudos to the author for not shying away from the less savory aspects of fame. There is a nice balance of anguish and sweet and a whole of sexy without being over top and distracting from the story.

A cute read about a shy musician that falls in love with a woman that begins to pursue a career as a photographer. The trials they endure as he rockets to stardom after writing a song about her is interesting.

Brought back lots of good memories from when I used to tour during college. A must-read for any musician who has ever spent an uncomfortable amount of time in a vehicle with strangers who turn into your best friends.
was ehh on it. It wasn't bad, but I kinda had an insta-luv vibe going on and i'm not so much a fan of CR Insta-Luv it just can't pull it off like PNR can.
