Genre: Erotic Romance
Type: Standalone Book 3 of Steele Brothers novella series
POV: Third Person - Dual
Rating:

Rafe Steele was a decorated war hero. After leaving the military, he joined his brothers in Las Vegas into the gambling business. As a natural born leader, he was used to people following his orders, but deep down inside he crave to surrender.

Summer Preston was an unassuming elementary school teacher. She was caring to her students but in the bedroom she displayed dominant tendencies that scared potential suitors away. Tired of being rejected, she resorted to using a one night stand agency FANTA-C to make her desire a reality.

Male subs stories are quite rare so I was quite excited to read this one. It turned out to be very mild but it did have something different in the elements of the story.

Dear God, the man practically exuded sex. Even his scent screamed animal mating, like smoke, musk, and earth rolled together.

Rafe had women throwing themselves at him, but after a single “accidental” experience, nothing could satisfy him like having a woman push him around. He was only started to explore this side of himself and wasn’t willing to fully admit his own desire.

Her face still held the appeal of the girl-next-door, but now she emanated a seductive power that gripped him by the balls and squeezed him as hard as her fingers had.

Summer on the other hand was game to be who she really was inside and wasn’t afraid to delve deeper into the scene.

The command was clear, but still he hesitated, caught between wanting to obey and knowing in his head it was crazy to take orders from a woman.

What’s interesting about the couple is both of them were new to the D/s scene. They were just starting to explore about taking it to the next level so we get to see their rational fears and reluctance.

Dare Me is an interesting look into a couple’s newly discovered proclivities. It is very light on the BDSM elements making it suitable for new kinky readers or those who can’t handle the darker/heavier contents.

Rafe Steele is a gorgeous man who was in the military for ten years. He's recently moved to Vegas to be closer to his brothers. He's been a little restless lately & his brothers have noticed how he hasn't really been himself or been doing much dating. They both unexpectedly found love at FANTA-C, a sex club that matches you with your perfect fantasy for one night of pleasure. They suggest Rafe should book an evening with FANTA-C to have an unforgettable experience that will fulfill all his deepest desires.

Rafe loves his family, his job, and his new life in Vegas, but he is wanting something new in his life. He's always been this confidant man who's always in charge. He's used to being dominant & in control, & for once would love for someone else to take the lead for a change. He makes the call to FANTA-C to schedule his date with his mystery woman, & looks forward to exploring something different than his usual sexual experience.

Rafe meets up with a woman named Summer Preston. He is totally shocked when he sees she isn't anything like he was expecting. He is expecting this sexy Dominatrix, & what he see's is a beautiful blonde who looks like an innocent angel. He soon learns there is more to Summer than what he thinks. Summer craves dominance in the bedroom & is looking for a man to play with that is willing to submit to her behind closed doors. As Rafe surrenders to Summer it is so damn hot! I really, really, REALLY enjoyed this one! ;)) This is a tough, alpha man, who submits to this woman & is shocked by how much it turns him to give up the power. They enjoy each other & come to a point where they have to decide if they want more than one night together. Can't wait for the next Steele brother!!! :D

-God, she was beautiful. Her angelic face expressed a pure openness he rarely glimpsed in a woman. She mirrored the perfect twist of naughty and nice that would make a man happy every morning he woke up in her bed.

-He was mouth-watering and delicious.

-She loved his hard edge, and the way he'd allowed himself to surrender to her.

-You're an incredible man, Rafe Steele. You have everything I've always wanted, and after one night, I don't want to let you go.

A decadent dare to be different between a man who can’t admit he wants to submit and a woman whose dominant tendencies are hidden behind wholesome image.

Rafe Steele is a decorated war hero who has lead men into hostile territory and brought them back because of his ability to take charge. His strong dominant show just about every aspect of his life except one. He desires to yield control in the bedroom, but it’s something he can’t bring himself to admit to his brothers. Unknowingly they convince him to set up a perfect night through a private matchmaking agency. He thought one night of experimentation would be enough. But when he meets a vixen under angel’s clothing who makes him want more, can he get past his worries and take her dare for more?

Summer’s daytime job as an elementary school teach fulfills her need to nurture young minds. But her need for a man who’s secure and brave to appreciate and connect with her regardless of her dominatrix tendencies isn’t quite so easy to find. Unable to form bonds with the men she’s seen, she looks to Fanta-C to set her up. She never expect a blind one night stand would lead her to Rafe Steele, a man who fulfilled her in every way she craved. But can she convince him to go for more?

The role reversal is not typical and I found it to be a nice change of pace. I loved how Rafe and Summer fought for control in the bedroom and found Rafe’s turmoil between his manly man demeanor and his desire to submit interesting. So the reason for my rating is that for some reason I couldn’t fully connect with either main characters and also felt it could have been steamier.

I’ve read several of Jennifer Probst’s books and I always enjoy how she writes very likeable characters and an interesting story with a good amount of sexiness and romance. Dare Me is no exception.
Dare Me is novella #3 in Steele Brothers series by Jennifer Probst. Told from both point of view and a happy ending. It can be read as a standalone.

With two of his older brothers matched up with their respective partners, Rafe Steele reunites with his brothers in Vegas but has a secret. Unlike his brothers who seek dominance and control in the bedroom, Rafe craves to surrender to a Dominatrix. Rafe is used to giving out orders in the military but in the bedroom, he is willing to give up control and let a Dominatrix control him. So when he meets Summer, who has wholesome girl next door look, he never expected that she was a Dominatrix, whom recently discovered a new sexual desire, her need to control and dominate. So can this strong alpha military leader be able to submit to her fully and let his secret be known to his brothers? Will Rafe and Summer find a balance in their new found sexual proclivities?

 photo DAREME_zpsxefuvplz.jpg

While I enjoyed the first two books of the Steele Brothers, I had mixed feelings on this third installment since I'm not a big fan of Dominatrix trope. But overall, I loved that Jennifer Probst spices up the series by doing something different. Ms. Probst spotlights a couple who discovered what they needed, craved and desired. So if you are looking for a book, where we are introduced to a new Mistress in Vegas then I dare you to read this book.

“Her breath ran hot over his back and one sharp nail traced the line of his spine to stop at the base before tracing the line of his ass cheeks. He closed his eyes and pulled at the chains, wanting out of there, yet he had nowhere to go.”

5 scorching stars. I love the Steele Brothers, each brother is hotter than the next!! You definitely can lost in this series it’s so well put together!!!

Rafe is a hero home from war. And while he’s dominant outside the bedroom, inside he can’t bring himself to be the same way. His brothers, not knowing this about him, sent him up through a matchmaking service, for one night of pleasure. One night is all he needs right?? That’s what he thought until he met Summer. Summer is an elementary school teacher by day but a dominant woman by night. She looks to FANTAC to set her up with a man she can dominate. Rafe and Summer are hot!!! Super hot together….it’s nice to see the role reversal with these characters. I love this series, it’s scorching hot and so much fun to read!!

You have to accept you before anyone else can.

That is the lesson Rafe had to learn, the hard way. Summer was his grace. He trusted her more than he trusted himself and his brothers apparently. It took time but he found his way with some harsh truths from unlikely sources. Jennifer hit the Domme role on the nail. She made Summer real, loving, supportive, and with a heart of gold and some steel. I truly enjoyed how she worked Rafe to the point of calm and free. I would love to see how their HEA play out more in a follow-up novella.

Rafe is a combat veteran who's struggling with his return home. He doesn't have PTSD, per se, but he does suffer nightmares and has lost some of his vigor. Having been awarded a medal for his service was cold comfort to losing his comrade. He followed his brothers into dealing cards out in Vegas, hoping the change of scene would be beneficial, and isn't really up for this FANTA C date night both Rick and Roman press him to take--but they are paying for it. Plus, they found perfect women in their dates, so it can't a bad service, can it?

Summer Preston is a third grade teacher who's always lived up to her parents' expectations. Well, until she didn't marry the young pastor they had desired for her. Nope, Summer needs a bit more feistiness in her bedmates. It took her years to come to terms with her desires, and she's not going to let anyone shame her for wanting to dominate her partners. She finds the bulky and scarred Rafe much to be enjoyed, and while he's not intimidated by her girl-next-door appearance at first, her leather catsuit and skill with a paddle turn his volume up on life.

They have a steamy one-nighter, and that's all. Because men like Rafe Steele don't submit. What would his brothers think! I'm not sure if Rick and Roman would get the vapors like Summer's parents, but still! Come on Rafe! Man up, soldier! As with the two previous books each of the parties needs a bit of a "cooling off" period, in order to bend their brains around finding the perfect match. This happens, most especially for Rafe; he has a heart-to-heart with his brothers, who seriously aren't cool with his behavior, I loved how caring Rafe was for Summer's student whose father was off in combat. And both Summer and Rafe are sweet characters who are both coming to terms with their unconventional needs. It was a yummy sexy read with a positive sexual premise, and empowering for those who find their needs to be outside of the stereotype. I liked. Also, short enough to be enjoyed while the kiddos are off watching a cartoon!

Dare Me by Jennifer Probst is the third book in her newly re-released serial, Steele Brothers.

Rafe Steele is a Submissive. He is hoping to have an encounter or two, work it out of his system and go about his life all vanilla-y and stuff. He does NOT want his brothers to know - they are Dom's, just what on earth will they think of him when they find out - No, that won't ever happen.

Summer is a Dominatrix. It is a new thing for her but it totally fits her lifestyle - quiet but controlled in public, an elementary school teacher, but fully in command in private. When she meets Rafe and he trusts her enough to let he do her thing with him she can't believe her luck. Then she realizes he isn't here for the long haul and she's tired of denying her true nature.

Will Rafe realize that being a Sub doesn't make him weak? Will he realize that, just maybe, his brothers will understand as they are also in the lifestyle and are two very open-minded men?

This third story in the Steele brother's series is all about Rafe, the brother who went away to war and has come back a changed man. In fact, he's realized something about himself - that while he might be a tough alpha guy in most areas of his life, it turns him on in the bedroom when a woman takes charge. He takes up his brother Rome's offer to use the Fanta-C guest card to find a woman who is interested in the same experience as him. Finding Summer is almost too good to be true, as she's discovering that being a Dominatrix is more and more to her liking. But will Rafe be big enough to admit that it's something more than just an experiment for him?

Whew! This one is a super sexy read (as are the rest in the series) but something about a strong sexy man letting a woman be in control just ups the steamy quotient for me and the result is an exciting novella about taking the risks you need to be happy. I really liked Summer in this story, how she's made up her mind that she's not going to settle for second best, and that she needs whatever man she's with to own up to his desires and not keep her as a secret, which Rafe tries to do. It takes a strong man to admit when he's been wrong though, and Rafe soon realizes that being with Summer is more important to him that anything else, even if it means facing (perceived) ridicule from his dominant brothers. But he has underestimated their love and support of him and we get a happy ending for Summer and Rafe and the peace of mind he's been seeking. 4 stars for this super sexy story!

Here in Dare Me we get the opposite of what you normally would see (or at least what I've seen as the usual) for a D/s pairing, with the woman being Dominant. This is the first time I've read a story with a male submissive character, and I have to say--it's a hell of an interesting perspective. Seeing things from Rafe's point of view and experiencing the pleasure from his frame of reference is actually refreshing and quite stimulating.

Love, love, love Rafe's character. He truly shines in this story, with his conflicted thoughts that cause him so much of an internal struggle. Summer doesn't have the same issue--she's already overcome her personal conflicts with her choice of lifestyle. The chemistry and intensity between the two of them is extraordinary, and makes for some damn hot intimate scenes.

For me, the circumstance of the female Dominant and male submissive was unique compared to what I've read previously, and that kept me engrossed in the story. The play between Rafe and Summer also felt more intense than what I saw in the first two books.

Final verdict...4.5 stars for Dare Me, with a huge chunk of the credit going to Rafe and his personal struggle and journey. Again, this is recommended to fans of erotic/BDSM romance who are 18+ only due to language and explicit erotic sexual content. At the rate these stories are going, I'm going to need a vacation in Antarctica by the time I'm done to cool back down.

ARC REVIEW

Dare Me, book three, Rafe Steele isn't like his brothers sure he's a card dealer like them, just moved to Vegas looking to start over after leaving the military; but unlike his brothers he secretly yearns to be dominated by a woman. So when his brothers give him the FANTA-C card for the perfect night he knows exactly what he wants. Summer Preston is not what he was expecting, she is a cute girl next door type. But Summer surprised him by immediately taking charge, being understanding, made him feel loved. The both enjoyed their one night and continued their budding relationship but after some time Summer started to feel like the dirty little secret.

Rafe has a lot of self discovery and issues to work through but the thought of not being with Summer tears him apart inside, and having her dominate him scares and thrills him. But he has to be able to admit to himself and to other that he is a sub before Summer will let the relationship continue.

"He was happier on his knees and showing his devotion than he'd ever been trying to dominate or control a woman in the bedroom."
"He was truly himself and vulnerable, and she made him feel more cherished and adored than any woman could."

Rafe and Summer work through some of the hard parts of a BDSM relationship, and the fact that Rafe is scared of what other people would say to find the big soldier and leader of men is a submissive in the bedroom.

DARE ME - 4 Stars!

I really enjoy this author. From her contemporary romance to these steamy novels, she has a little something for all readers around. This series right here is perfect for a quick read that can get your motor running. It was sexy, sweet, fun, hot, steamy, and guarantees a happy ending.

This series surrounds four brothers as they find love through a match service. Some are new love and some are second chances at love. While these books are really short, they are no less enjoyable and pack quite a punch in their storyline. Be prepared for steaming kindle and wet panties.

This is Rafe and Summer's story. Rafe is the soldier... a man who takes control but in the bedroom, he yearns to hand over control. Summer is a woman who has it all put together but in the bedroom, she yearns to be in control. One night of passion and letting their inhibitions go. One match service who pairs them up with their perfect match. Can they let go of judgments and embrace who they are?

I highly recommend this book.

So I have read a fair amount of BDSM books so I don’t feel like a novice coming into this. I am also a therapist so this will colour my review.

OMFG you just met the guy two seconds ago and dominate him and then force him to tell you his most traumatic experience in the army? In therapy, you take a long long long time before you go there with someone. This felt naive, simplistic, and down right stupid. I think if people have no idea of therapy or trauma you would tread lightly. This author just went for the jugular without a thought and used it as a plot item. I can’t get behind that.

I had high hopes for this book as it ticked a lot of my boxes but after that initial encounter I was too livid to enjoy the rest.

Received an ARC for an honest review:

The Steele Brothers Series is a little different than Jennifer's usual style of writing by including the BDSM world. This series is a re-release with added information. I read the original series a long time ago, before really knowing what the BDSM world contained, way before 50 SOG.

What I learned from reading her well-written stories and this unknown world, is trust is very important. Trust is important in the "normal vanilla" relationship, but it takes more in the BDSM world. Regardless what role you play, all relationships have to have trust.

Rafe knows how to give a girl a compliment, "he sat up, gloriously naked and tousled. “Thank God. That outfit is driving me effing nuts.” I enjoyed this book but it wasn't one of my favorites in the series I think Rick still holds that title.

I was wondering how I had a gap in reading since I've been blowing through books lately. :X well, it's because I'd mostly forgotten this one. :X

Granted I did read it through, which is more than some of the other stories I've started lately.
Then again ... you know - forgot.
I did notice it was written in 2012, and I'm pretty sure is very different than Jennifer Probst's other books. Also, vaguely maybe this was when BDSM was especially ~en vogue?

what I had issue with was ... (and I was thinking about it while I was driving around today) - that they just jumped right into the D/s aspect and had LITERALLY just met? Like 5-10 minutes before? And sure that was the whole arrangement? But the fact that both were already unsure and new to ~the lifestyle.
So that combination of inexperience and uncertainty didn't convince me. In fact even without the "kink" I would've had a hard time believing a "vanilla" hookup.

His whole "you must be normal" then "I'm so in love with you" - I did like that she put her foot down when he started getting squirrely about her meeting his family.
I DO however get why he was so cautious and reluctant to tell his brothers he's submissive.

There were positives to this story that I definitely wish other authors also included.
However overall? Meh; and this book was the one with the premise that I found most interesting, so I'm skipping on the others.

Rafe and Summer won me over pretty quickly. Rafe is the big, tough guy on the outside, but that's not quite what he needs in the bedroom, and Summer is the typical girl next door until she gets in the bedroom. These two aren't at all what they seem, and they're pretty perfect for each other. We do get a bit of angst as Rafe figures things out and comes to terms with who he is, and I loved seeing that vulnerable side of him. Like the others in the series, Dare Me is a quick listen, but don't let that fool you. Probst does an excellent job of giving the full story in a novella-length read. The characters are developed, the romance is both sweet and steamy, and we even get some time with the older Steele brothers.
Matthew Williamson is the voice of Rafe. In fact, he narrates the series, and if you haven't heard him, you need to. He has just the right amount of gruff and growl in his voice, and he suits these characters wonderfully. So well that it's like the author wrote the books around that voice. Williamson takes an already great story and makes it even better. It's a terrific combination.
I love this series and the Steele brothers, and Rafe turned out to be my favorite. I think there's one more to go, and Jennifer Probst is going to have to pull out all the stops to top this one.

So, we have this hero who is former military and has brothers who are known dominants. Rafe is struggling with what happened during the war. He lost a friend and keeps his emotions bottled up. His brothers offer him an experience through FANTA-C, where he will be paired with someone who can give a night he won’t forget…which is to handle to reins over to a Dominatrix.

Summer is a Dominatrix at night. Elementary school teacher by day. She’s tired of hiding who she is and what she wants. When she is set up with Rafe, the two both get more than they expected. Summer wants to Rafe for hers, forever, but Rafe has some issues he must work out first. Will Rafe come to his senses and accept who he is or will Summer have to find another submissive?

I loved how the tables are turned in this book. In the previous Steele Brothers books, the men were the Dominant ones in the relationship. I liked that Rafe was still in charge outside of the bedroom, but realized what he needed inside the bedroom, was something different.

Overall, a quick read that was enjoyable and was filled with some yummy scenes.

She was a school teacher by day and wanted to explore in other areas of her life.
He was a military man and didn't want to be in charge of the bedroom. He wanted to be the sub.
The both joined FANTA-C where they were matched, it was a great experience for them for one night.
What happens when they want more than one night? Can they separate the bedroom from real life?

You will have to read to find out. I really enjoyed the different take in this book. It is meant for adults only.

Poor Rafe has trauma after his friend died on a battle in Afghanistan. Both his brothers asked him to try fanta-c. She met the dom Summer Preston. She dared him to be with her. He accepted but keep their relationship from public because he was ashamed if his sub preferences got out. She was tired of being hidden and they broke up on the day they both say the three words.
A month later, Rafe finally confessed his nature to his brothers and asked for their help to win Summer back.
He went to the club where she was preparing for a scene.

This was a fantastic twist on the typical BDSM plots with Rafe, a decorated war hero, craving to be dominated and Summer, the cute school teacher, as the Dom. They were both newbies in this world and it was so interesting to read their journey. Jennifer Probst is a master at raw, messy, real emotions and Dare Me encompassed how Summer and Rafe find their way dealing with perceived expectations. Totally awesome story!

Rafe meets Summer for one night but he finds that submitting to her is what he has been missing in his life. They feel the same yet Rafe is unable to fully commit to Summer as he is afraid of what his family will think. Summer leaves him but after a month he reveals to her that he needs her in his life..

This wasn’t a bad book. It just didn’t do anything for me. It was a quick read and I found myself skimming quite a bit. I didn’t connect at all. Not much happened. There was minimal drama. I haven’t read the other books in the series...I started with this one because I was looking for a book where the hero is submissive in the bedroom. I don’t plan on reading the other books in this series.

Loved going back in Jennifer's catalog of stories to find something that was so similarly delightful to the magic of her other series. Just a business card that the characters had to burn but it was nicely done and left me feeling very satisfied at the end of the series.

Summer and Rafe both take a chance on FANTA-C – but can they take what they both want and turn it into something that will last – first Rafe needs to get past those preconceived ideas that we all have.

Enjoyed it overall

For whatever reason this one moved too fast for me. For such inexperienced everything was at an expert level. That said, I loved Rafe and Summer was ok. I enjoyed the read overall.
