Andrew Hussie is the creator of MS Paint Adventures, a collection of webcomics that includes Homestuck, as well as of several other webcomics, books, and videos.
((Read Homestuck online)) Homestuck is perhaps one of the most interesting, unique, and amazing webcomics.
Perhaps it is the crude art style or the witty humor or the characters themselves. Honestly, teenagers should be reading this.
Let's take a looksie at the four beta kids, shall we?
John Egbert is your typical child prodigy...who just happens to be an idiot at times.
Rose Lalonde is not your usual Goth chick. She doesn't write emo poetry, doesn't have the raven long locks that a typical goth girl would have. She is perhaps the character I can most relate to. She's intelligents, snarky, but she's not a bad person.
Dave Strider, perhaps one of the most overrated characters, is really three dimensional. I think, perhaps out of all the beta kids, he grows the most throughout this series.
And lovely little Jade. Though sweet and kind, she will fight for what she believes in.
I think that these characters are perhaps some of the most three dimensional characters that I have read about. You care for them and I've found myself yelling at the screen.
Homestuck is definitely an amazing read. Though boring at first, you will not regret reading it.-
chapter 2 baby! not too bad so far, on page like 760-ish? (reading online hehehe) but i’m really liking it! mr. jussie dialed it down with the perspective switches so it didn’t really feel obnoxious. big fan of the wayward vagabond (the mayor!!!!!!! :))) )
It's hard for me to like these comics because of the bad experiences I had with the fanbase, I mean it's hard to appreciate something when one of the members of the fandom you are talking about is very much admitting to having sexual fantasies abotu being one of the characters.
I guess I'm just not the target audience for this. Two books in and I'm just not enthralled.
I do respect the structure, the level of interactivity the comic had with its real-time readers, the quality of the writing, the use of the "Web" part of web comic to a much greater degree than many other such comics and the sheer amount of work that goes into these comics.
But I don't personally *care* about anything that happened in this book, even less than the last volume. Or, to borrow a test from a friend of mine when we were discussing a particular DC comic, "would I care if I turned the last page and it said 'Rocks fall, everyone dies, the end'?" And the answer is... no. No I wouldn't. I didn't care what any of the characters was doing. I didn't find them interesting as people, not even as interesting as in volume one. I got the feeling from this book that I usually get from crackfic over at fanficiton.net - I'm sure this is funny to someone and I don't think it's bad, I don't get anything out of reading it
So... I think if you liked Vol. 1., you will like vol. 2. And if you weren't sure about vol. 1, this should help you solidify your feelings one way or the other.
A continuation of what I hope will be many of Homestuck books, and just like the first book my love for Homestuck continues. I never explained the setting in my last review but I like the world they are in because it is set in a sort of game play world with the fetch modus and strife modus and what not but it is also set so that the characters know of their game like world and I like that Andrew Hussie adds that as a neat effect! I also like how none of the characters are specifically mentioned to have any race or anything, they're just there, the only one who I think ever had a race mentioned was Dave's older brother because John called him a nerdy white guy at one point in time, I'm pretty sure it was in act two actually. The point is that Homestuck is an amazing webcomic and also book, and I wish everyone would read it because personally it has changed my life, and that sounds overly dramatic but it's true! I still recommend everyone read it.
This series is amazing. I had doubts on reading it; from hearing about it all over the place, I was interested. To be honest, I thought it would be annoying and overrated. Andrew hussie proved me wrong. There's no way to describe what this series does to you. I recommend it to everyone, are to those who don't read it because it's "too long" it gets better. I know that sounds cliche, but there's no other way to say it. And to take a leaf from the 'Let me tell you about homestuck' song: It's about four kids who play a game, and nothing will ever be the same. There's times travel, shenanigans, crazy plots, and aliens, They're trying to save the universe, but not if the bad guys get there first. They're gonna need a lot of luck In the crazy world of, Homestuck.
I thought that Homestuck Book Two was a great read. The book was enthralling and I think it deserves a lot of praise. The plot is about a boy named John Egbert who starts a mysterious game titled "Sburb" with his four friends Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider, and Jade Harley. Sburb turns out to be much bigger than expected, and ends changing their lives forever. Now it's up to John, Rose, Dave and Jade to survive, and keep the universe off the brink of destruction. If you ever leave liked a fantasy novel, or science fiction book, this story is for you. I've finished two books, and I'm ready to go on to the third book soon!
Act two was much better than act one. Since I read fast enough to get through act one, and basically understand it, (although it a little bit too obscure to understand it, or say you understand). It made act three even better. I think act three will probably make act four even better, and so on until I get to act six. The intermission get etter each time too. Right now I'm at the intermission between act one and two.
Homestuck is fantastic!! Although act 1 was very slow and dull, but now that i read act 2 I get a better understanding of the story!! I made the right choice not stopping at act 1. The story just keeps on getting better and better if you just keep reading on. I recommend to read homestuck if you like adventure, sci-fi, action!
An act I actually like + more care put into translating flashes to the page = 1 more star for this volume! Some of the panels of the flashes are still too small to really read though, especially in the initial game.
let me just make this review quick and easy. Reading this series will literally change you. So go read the first. Then Gallop on over here and get yourself a warm mug of coffee. 'Cause its gonna be a good read.
Homestuck is a twisting tale of woe with clever foreshadowing and a variety of symptoms rivaling a comic book. Such symptoms include but are not limited to jumping timelines, subtext, foot notes, and of course carefully drawn MS paint scenes filling the pages.
I love this Act because its when the book gets really interesting. It reveals new characters and continues the great adventure of John Egbert. I can't wait for the comic to be finished!
