To be honest, I almost wrote this book off as DNF. And it's not because it was written so horridly. Despite the minor editing issues, Tara Fuller wrote a story that appeals to an audience whose got some mad love for YA paranormal romance - regardless of its tiresome story arcs. I believe the reviews on Goodreads reflect that.
I'm just over the whole tortured hero scene. Alex could give that boy I'd rather not mention a run for his money. He suffered from wanting to stay away from the literal girl of his dreams but was unable to do so. The push and pull that Alex showed added to the monotony of this novel. It wasn't only that. I got tired of hearing all his cryptic sentiments - all the times he was on the verge of owning up to his secrets but had decided against it. I could go on about all the times this book but I'd rather you read this and judge for yourself.
There are a number of incidents where readers could perceive Rowan as a weak character - least of all, the number of times she fainted in the novel or she cried. And I really get it you know. I get that her mother perished in a house fire where she may have been inadvertently at fault; I get the feeling of frustration when you want to know all the things about a boy you're attracted to but you can't because he's very adept at being evasive. I get how painful it is to know your father couldn't stand to be in the same State, let alone same house as you. It hasn't been easy for Rowan since her mother died especially since she may or may not be at fault. But I just couldn't find it in me to sympathize.
I wish this book spent more time with the element of witchcraft. Unfortunately, much of this novel was about the romance. I think my reaction would be different if there was a balance.
VERDICT: Absence of parental units. The token best friend who appointed herself as the person in charge of making sure Rowan has a social life. The boy who sneaks in her room after the grandparents are asleep. A heroine oblivious of her charms and beauty. Gratuitous torturous inner monologues (from Rowan and Alex). There are just some of the reasons why I couldn't find anything special about this book. We've been through this before - many times over, in fact. Like I said, there is a huge audience who would fall head over feet for this book. Just not me.

I absolutely adored this book!!!! Holy cow, I have never been a huge fan of witch stories, but Tara Fuller had me at Alex Foster!!!! Honestly, though, this book has everything it takes to make an unforgettable fantasy story and then some, and I just LOVED it!
The story starts out with Rowan, having recently lost her mother to a horrible fire in their home, being sent to live with her grandparents in Ipswich, Mass. Her father struggles to deal with Rowan's grief as well as his own, so he sends her away hoping things will be better for all of them. Rowan is devastated that her father and brother are being ripped from her life just like her mother, but she's determined to make the most of her new situation. Having always been cursed with the ability to sense others' feelings, part of her is relieved to be away from her father's emotional overload, but she's not sure what to make of her new home. When a gorgeous, mysterious boy starts coming around, she is determined to find out who he is. What she doesn't realize is that he's a witch with some serious secrets that he doesn't dare share with her, and she too is a witch with immense powers hidden deep inside. As she gives her heart to the boy she can't live without, Rowan discovers there is much more than meets the eye. Fate has them heading down a heart-wrenching path, but Rowan has to be strong enough to fight it so she can be with the one she loves.
There are so many things that I just loved about this story, but the most unforgettable is the characters. Rowan earned herself a huge place in my heart right off the bat, with her incomparable strength after going through such utter devastation. She is so broken after her mother's death and an event that forever scars her, and to see her lose her father and brother on top of that just breaks your heart. The fact that she had the strength to stand up and start over in an entirely new place with a new school just floored me, she's just amazing!! She bravely starts her new life with no friends to speak of, and when the mysterious boy that causes her heart to flutter and makes her feel like she's home keeps coming around, you can't help but cheer them on!! That swoon-worthy boy is Alex Foster, and unbeknownst to Rowan they are not entirely strangers. Alex has been in love with Rowan for as long as he can remember, but he is terrified that when Rowan finds out what he is and the unbelievable secret he's hiding, she may not want to see him again. I fell in love with Alex the minute he came into the story; between the initial sexy mystery behind him to the revelation of his absolute adoration and dedication to Rowan, he just made me melt!!! Talk about your heart-racing romances, this boy does things that made me have to stop and catch my breath!! He's as sexy as he is absolutely devoted, and I was impatiently awaiting every moment when he came back into Rowan's day. He was just too awesome for words!!! I loved the supporting characters in the story, too, with Bev and Paige's humorous distractions and Tyler's sweet infatuation with Rowan that created just the right amount of jealousy on Alex's part to keep the twists at a near constant. Put together, it created a captivating cast of characters that I couldn't get enough of!
Fuller created such a unique and exciting backdrop for PM, and I couldn't break away from this story because there were just so much to keep me hooked!! Between the emotional roller coaster with Rowan and Alex and the unexpected twists as she discovered how much she didn't know, this story was a thrill ride from start to finish. Fuller wrote this book in such a beautiful style, too, with so much attention to the details and emotions that really complete the feel for this amazing story. It really was just stunning and eloquent writing throughout. And Alex's big secret....I LOVED this twist, it was such a unique and exciting challenge for their relationship!!! It's so ridiculously romantic and out of left field, it makes this book one that I will never forget!

Wow. One day....I read this in one day. The story is engaging, well crafted, and well written. I love Rowan and Alex! They're an amazing pair. Their romance was so fun to watch unfold. Such innocence sprinkled in with sparks of heat that had me sighing.
I just couldn't put the book down, and I love that. When a book has me thinking, "just one more chapter," all the way through to the end, that's AWESOME. And when I'm crying when the characters are, that's even more awesome. I love taking the journey with the characters and I did on this one. Fuller paints the scenes so well, they rolled like a movie in my mind.

Tara A. Fuller's debut novel Perigee Moon
Rowen Bliss has had one heck of a few months. She has lost her mother in a fire and is having a really hard time dealing with that loss. If this wasn't bad enough her father has distanced himself from her and has decided that Rowen should go across the country to live with her mother's parents. Within a few months of living in the small town of Ipswich, Mass., she meets a mysterious boy named Alex aka Alexander and finds out she is a powerful witch among other things.
I finished this book last night and have been trying to find the right words to describe my thoughts about this book since then. I think I'm finding it hard because this book made me feel more than think and it's always hard to put feelings into words.
This is such a beautiful story. It was beautifully written in such a way that everything was easily understood. Too often you find that authors try way too hard to describe action and it gets confusing and you are not too sure what they really wanted you to visually see in your mind. I had no such problem with this book. Ms. Tara has a true gift for story telling. The words floated off the screen and I felt as if I were right there with these characters the entire time. I could see into the forest and see the trees gently sway with the wind. I felt every gust of wind and tasted the briny dew along with it. I truly was transported into the world Ms. Tara created.
The love story that unfolded between Rowen and Alex was cute, innocent and very pure. It was really nice to see it grow and it's intensity was refreshing because it wasn't just physical. BTW, I LOVE THE NAMES ROWEN AND ALEXANDER! Rowen is sweet, broken yet strong. Alexander is sweet, enticing and mysterious. I really liked how Rowen wasn't easily influenced. At her age and as broken as she was it could have been really easy to wild out and she didn't. I was impressed. :-) Love love love Rowen's friends Bevin, Paige and Tyler. I really liked TYLER! He was so sweet and supportive. WOW Bevin...she stepped up like I've never known any other teenager to. Let's just say that she had to play the adult when it came to helping Rowen out with her grief. I loved Grams as well.
The author did a wonderful job in developing these characters and they were consistent in their behavior.
I was brought to tears at least two times in the book. I totally was not expecting that. I don't think I can say what brought me to tears without it being a spoiler. I will say that at one point it was about how this child who has lost so much only wanted to be accepted for who she was and more importantly wanted to accept herself for who she was. It was sad because she couldn't accept herself without having the support of someone else first. She didn't know how to accept her gift because she felt it was a curse, something bad, evil, because others perceived it as such. No one that young should feel alone and people really do need to learn to embrace difference. As adults we hurt our children more by not teaching them that it's ok to be different and if you have special gifts it's ok to have them too.
Once again I found this book to have been written beautifully. It has its mystery but it wasn't too dark. The ending was really nice and I'm glad that this book won't be a part of a series. Why? In order for it to be a series Ms. Tara will have to put Rowen and Alex in a crazy situation and honestly those two need some peace in their lives. Sometimes its ok to wrap it up nicely and let go.
I recommend this book to everyone! Ms. Tara great job and keep on being as sweet as you are!

Perigee Moon is filled with time travel, magic, and a beautiful romance. I absolutely adored this book. From the opening paragraph, all the way to the end... I was completely hooked.
We start with Rowan, who has lost her mother and is now moving to live with her grandparents in Ipswich, Massachusetts. It's here that she meets the mysterious and sexy Alex Foster. She has no idea where he's from, but she does know that she's falling for him... just as he is for her. The closer these two get, the more secrets that begin to unravel. Alex is a witch. And, he's destined to die. But after everything that Rowan has been through, she will not lose anyone else she loves... no matter what the consequence is.
I cannot even begin to explain how much I loved this book. I bought it after author Melissa West recommended it, and I just got around to reading it recently. I always kick myself when I wait and wait and wait and then the book ends up blowing me away. And, most of the time it's just me completely falling in love with the story. Not with this book though. Not only did I adore the story, but the writing was phenomenal. It was perfect for me. Tara has this way of describing things, this way of making a situation that much more real and beautiful. I mean, check out these lines:
"Something heated like desire and dark like sludge crawled out of his gaze, wrapping around me like a tourniquet."
and
"But I don't know why you're sad. I don't know why you can't sleep, or who you could possibly be waiting for while the rest of the world is sleeping."
I. Just. Die. There were so many lines and parts that had me saying "oh god I love that line" or "holy canoli that part is perfect". There were so many parts and words that I could relate to. I just absolutely fell in love with Tara's writing and want to read more of her work ASAP.
Not only did I fall in love with the writing, but all the characters also. Rowan has struggled with so many things, and yet she ends up on top. If you've read the book... I absolutely adore the opening paragraphs about Rowan, I don't know if that says bad things about me (since it's not about such a great topic) but I loved it. It intrigued me and pulled me in. I also adored her best friend Bevin. Everyone deserves a best friend like that! There's also the sweet heart, cutie pie, Tyler who you can't help but love. And, I also found myself loving her grandmother!
And of course... last but not least is Alex. Oh gosh I heart him. New book boyfriend for sure! Amazingly beautiful blue eyes, dark hair, nice strong built... plus this kid has a heart of gold. There's nothing not to love about him. I was rooting for him and Rowan the whole book! I loved falling in love with their romance.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this book. The story is brilliantly done. The romance is lovely. The writing has become one of my all time favorites. I, personally, don't think you can go wrong with this book. If you like some magic, some love, and fantastic writing... I say pick this one up!

For months, I've had this book on my WOW list . . . my must-read list . . . and my what-the-heck-does-that-title-mean list, so when this baby finally popped up on Amazon, I think I may've been the first person to snatch it up! And from the very first page, I knew I was in for an amazing ride.
First of all, the hauntingly beautiful cover completely drew me in, and I'm so happy to say the writing matched. Tara Fuller writes with a lyrical voice, she paints with words and her descriptions are just poetic. As a reader, I'm drawn to stories with snappy, authentic dialogue, BUT what makes me stay is a setting that I can see and feel and almost move around in--and in PERIGEE MOON, the tiny town of Ipswich, Massachusetts became my home while I read. I saw the forest and smelled the briny ocean. I could taste it on the back of my tongue. I heard the floorboards of Rowan's room creak beneath my feet, and, well, whenever Alex was in the room, I was consumed with jealousy that it was not ME getting to touch and run my fingers through his hair! *grin*
While the majority of the story is told via Rowan's first person POV, I loved the snapshot glimpses into Alex's world through his journal entries, sprinkled throughout the text. Writing for the opposite sex can be difficult, and writing from two POVs within one book can be a challenge, trying to keep them separate and distinguishable. Ms. Fuller excels at this in my opinion--I loved her Alex entries! It's so tempting in YA literature to make guy characters all or nothing. . . they're either the broody bad boy, or the sweet, caring boy-next-door. Alex finds a way to be BOTH, which I think is a much more realistic picture of a male teen. And this way I feel like I got two guys for the price of one! Actually, there are two hotties in PERIGEE MOON, and I'd love to see a sequel just for him. And to find out what happens next with Rowan. And have more page time with Bevin--loved that girl. So, yeah, basically, I'm just demanding a sequel. *snaps fingers and twitches nose*
What I loved about this book was how much of it was a mystery going in---wondering about the title, curious about the cover, and needing to know more about Alex--so I don't want to ruin that for anyone else with spoilers. I'll just say that PERIGEE MOON was worth the wait, and fans of YA paranormal romantic suspense won't be disappointed. Be sure to keep an eye on the author, too. Her Kissed by Death series begins with INBETWEEN, hitting shelves this August!

I saw the forest and smelled the briny ocean. I could taste it on the back of my tongue. I heard the floorboards of Rowan's room creak beneath my feet, and, well, whenever Alex was in the room, I was consumed with jealousy that it was not ME getting to touch and run my fingers through his hair! *grin*
While the majority of the story is told via Rowan's first person POV, I loved the snapshot glimpses into Alex's world through his journal entries, sprinkled throughout the text. Writing for the opposite sex can be difficult, and writing from two POVs within one book can be a challenge, trying to keep them separate and distinguishable. Ms. Fuller excels at this in my opinion--I loved her Alex entries! It's so tempting in YA literature to make guy characters all or nothing. . . they're either the broody bad boy, or the sweet, caring boy-next-door. Alex finds a way to be BOTH, which I think is a much more realistic picture of a male teen. And this way I feel like I got two guys for the price of one! Actually, there are two hotties in PERIGEE MOON, and I'd love to see a sequel just for him. And to find out what happens next with Rowan. And have more page time with Bevin--loved that girl. So, yeah, basically, I'm just demanding a sequel. *snaps fingers and twitches nose*
What I loved about this book was how much of it was a mystery going in---wondering about the title, curious about the cover, and needing to know more about Alex--so I don't want to ruin that for anyone else with spoilers. I'll just say that PERIGEE MOON was worth the wait, and fans of YA paranormal romantic suspense won't be disappointed. Be sure to keep an eye on the author, too. Her Kissed by Death series begins with INBETWEEN, hitting shelves this August!

I just love re-reads! They are truly the best and this book definitely lands the list of the pile. I can remember first picking this book up in 2012, a year before I started blogging and being just enchanted by it. Well it still has the same affect on me 4 years later. Filled with magic, time travel of sorts, an evil witch, a sweet romance, Rowan Bliss goes through an exciting and well worth journey for any reader of YA will enjoy.

This book was enjoyable to read, so I gave it 3 stars. It was refreshing because I haven't come across many witch books, especially in modern times.
It became so painfully apparent that the author was a fan of Twilight though. She obviously liked how their relationship played out, and instead of blatantly copying the story and using vampires and werewolves, she found something different that could still play out the same way.
The plot was completely transparent and it was so obvious that the author liked the twilight series and the basic concept of girl meets guy, instant chemistry, girl gets in trouble and guy saves girl, guy turns out to be living for centuries resulting in a conflict and a barricade for them to get over. Guy is a really good kisser, making the girl feel woozy and weak in the knees. She goes so far as to actually rip off the dialogue in Twilight, having her say “You’re a little TOO good” after they kiss and he admits he doesn’t have any experience with girls. Where oh where have we heard that before?
Did she think we wouldn’t notice that she completely copied Twilight?
Her streak of “inspiration” must’ve went a little something like this:
I don’t want to make it seem TOO obvious. But how can I make it to where he’s lived for centuries?
Oh, I’ve got it. A witch!
He can be a witch that lived in the 1600s!
Ok, now he has to be inexperienced just like Edward Cullen was. And he has to be a really good kisser.
What else did I like about Twilight?
Oh yeah.
Bella ends up having to save Edward’s life and discovers she has powers of her own to boot.
And to top it all off there has to be another guy interested in her to increase her self-worth and to really slam home that guys find her attractive despite what she thinks.
Add in a scene where a guy is pushing himself on her, and you’ve got the complete story line of Twilight unfolding before your very eyes. Just as Edward did when Bella was in trouble, Alex comes in the nick of time and saves the day.
During the scene of her with that other guy that immediately liked her, I picture Mike immediately being attracted to Bella in the school cafeteria and trying so hard when she just wasn’t into it. Rowan’s new to school (just like Bella was) and she goes out on a date with him knowing she doesn’t really feel the same way, but to give her credit she doesn’t let him kiss her when he tries to.
I’ll give the author the benefit of the doubt, maybe she didn’t intentionally rip off Twilight, but it was copying the basic concepts in the Twilight series, and you really have to watch that because so many people have read Twilight and can make the connection.
There were aspects that I liked about her relationship with Alex, but overall the whole thing swept by very fast and they hadn’t known each other very long before they were almost having sex. I wanted things to just slowww down.
Rowan kind of got on my nerves what with the whole, my-friend-has-to-dress-me thing and do my makeup for me (just like Alice doing the same for Bella in Twilight. Jeeze, will the similarities never end?) The whole cutting thing didn’t set right with me either. I don’t like that in a character. To me it just seemed like a cry for help here, like she wanted people to notice. It was nice when Alex noticed the scars and acted concerned when he realized she'd tried to kill herself though.
Rowan liked Alex, and he was initially standoffish (in the same manner Edward was towards Bella) before he eventually let on how he felt about her. Alex had some sort of accent, I can't remember what exactly, that was definitely remniscent of Edward's own old world accent in Twilight.
I initially thought that the diary entries were written by a girl. It wasn't until I noticed the name Alexander that I realized it was actually a guy's writing. That was a major failure on the author's part to have him come off as girly.

Bevin completely got on my nerves. She was pushing Rowan towards boys and dates and sex and kissing and everything else. Towards the end it just aggravated that she was even there when Alex and Rowan should have had alone time. Then her dad came to aggravate me some more. It just worked out a little too perfectly that he showed up and they talked about everything and all that crap.
There were so many grammar mistakes in this book it was ridiculous. She must have had the world's worst editor edit this thing, because it was horrible. There would be random words that didn't go with what was happening, like the author had been editing and moving things around but had forgotten to backspace. It was unfathomable how someone could overlook these mistakes when publishing a book.

As she spends more time with Alex, Rowan’s feelings grow stronger and more powerful; however… she knows he’s keeping things from her. He’s reluctant to talk about his family and his past, but eventually the secrets begin to unfold and Rowan learns of two shocking revelations; first, Alex is a witch, and second…there’s a prophecy that says Alex is doomed to die. Rowan refuses to lose another person she loves, though, and is determined to stop the prophecy from coming true.
Perigee Moon was a romantic story full of mystery, magic, and even time-travel. The book revolves around Rowan and Alex’s relationship and Rowan’s quest to find out who she really is. I really liked Rowan as a character, and I easily connected with her. You can actually feel her pain every time she thinks or talks about her mother, or whenever she and her father interact. And when you find out what went down after her mom’s death, it emphasizes just how broken she was. Her powers were interesting, too, especially her ability to feel other peoples’ emotions. I wish that Rowan’s father had been in the book a bit more, though. I know that he avoids her because of the events that occurred before the book picks up, but I would have liked to hear more from him.
And now, on to Alex. He was a sweet guy, yet also had this bad boy aura. He was protective, charming, and passionate. He’s one of those guys who loves with every fiber of his being, and he was utterly devoted to Rowan. I like that Tara Fuller gave us some small glimpses into his inner thoughts through journal entries at the beginning of each chapter. It was nice to see what was going through his head as the book progressed. His relationship with Rowan was beautiful, though they did fall in love rather fast. What they had was more than just an instant connection, it was more like they belonged to each completely other upon meeting.
Generally, I’m not usually into books about witches and witchcraft, but I found myself intrigued by the story and the world Tara Fuller created. There was also a cool twist in the book that I didn’t see coming, which was great since I love unexpected turns and plot twists. Fuller sucessfully managed to incorporate time travel into the novel, too, which I know isn’t an easy thing. Time travel is tricky, and an author needs to make sure it makes sense so the reader can understand how it works in whatever world they’re reading about. Fortunately, Tara pulled it off.

Perigee Moon was an entertaining read with compelling and likable characters. The romance was great, and there were several hot (for YA) scenes, which was a pleasant surprise. If you’re a fan of novels about witches, you should definitely check this book out! I’m crossing my fingers Tara Fuller will write a sequel.

A beautiful read.
After a horrific fire claims the life of her mother, seventeen year old Rowan Bliss finds herself in the miniscule town of Ipswich, Massachusetts. It’s here that she meets Alex, a deliciously mysterious boy who holds the key to unlocking her family’s dark secret.
As Rowan falls helplessly over the edge for Alex, the secrets that he insists on keeping refuse to be contained, and the truth that she uncovers challenges everything she has ever believed. Alex is a witch. And now he’s awakened something within her she never even knew existed. But out of all of this, the one thing Rowan won’t accept is the fact that Alex is destined to die.
Now Rowan must unearth the buried power she harbors within to escape a deadly prophecy, defy the very laws of time, and prevent the hands of fate from taking yet another person she loves.
This book was lovely. All the characters; full of life, love and passion. The plot; full of mysteries and twists. It was so easy to get into the book, yet so hard to get away from.
Rowan, such a strong and passionate character. She was extremely interesting, she has a way of thinking that intrigues you and makes you want to stay inside her head. She was the perfect little girl, until she met her soulmate. Alex. Wow, Alex. I love him. I can't get enough of his black hair that slightly hangs over his piercing-blue eyes. I can't get enough of his smiles. Damn, I want Alex. Hell, everyone who reads this book will want an Alex! But he has some secrets of his own, something dark and truly dangerous. Something he is too afraid to share with Rowan...
Bevlin! Rowan's best friend. She was a fun and entertaining character, who I really connected with. She was just so funny. She knows how to lighten the mood, she knows how to make you feel better and most important fact is..she's the best friend every girl wants.
One thing I'm upset about, is the fact that there is no sequel. I would have loved to read about Alex and Rowan's future, but I guess sometimes you have to use your imagination a bit more.
I enjoyed the romance, the humour and the mystery in this book. Perigee Moon was more than I expected, and I loved every single minute of reading it. This is Tara Fuller's debut novel and I beleive that she will be amazing in the future. I can't wait to see what she has instore for us next! I think she's working on her upcoming series Kissed by Death. Sounds great right? I'm excited....soooo excited.

I adore Tara Fuller, but I must admit I am sick with envy after reading her amazing debut. PERIGEE MOON is so rich with beautiful language that it makes the writer in me ache. Her metaphors are original, her style as smooth as silk. It's like she naturally knows how to bring forth the best possible comparisons and descriptions to pull the reader right into the scene. This book packs a powerful punch - on so many levels. Rowen was such a wonderful character, real and easy to relate to. Her loss and struggles were so painful that you ache for her. And Alex - SIGH - well Alex kind of totally rocks it... While still being a little scary - in a good way. Taut tension, sensuality, and tragedy, with a warm gooey center ;) If you read the first Twilight, you will love this book. I know I did! Congrats on the delightful, heartrenching, beautifully-crafted story Miss Fuller! Can't wait to read what's next.

Tara Fuller took 2 cool elements & combined them. Witches & time travel. Super cool. I like Rowan's growth over the novel, and of course having a cute boy along for the ride makes everything better, right? The kissing scenes were really good kissing scenes too. Great read.

Witches have long been one of my favorite paranormal groups and I am constantly looking for great witch novels to read. This one has been sitting on my Kindle for awhile, waiting for its chance to be read. I was really excited about this one because it is set in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The name of that town instantly reminded me of the Sons of Ipswich from the movie, The Covenant. I loved that film and its brand of magic so I was already in the right frame of mind to read this one.
I was surprised to see that this novel revolves more around the romance/relationship aspect than the paranormal aspect. Yes, there are witches and yes, there is some sinister paranormal forces at work, but I wanted more of those elements. The romance between Rowan and Alex is sweet and enjoyable, but it felt like these sections of the novel dragged after awhile for me. I got that they had this impossible love - I didn't need to be reminded of that in almost every chapter. I really enjoyed reading this - don't get me wrong - I just wish that there had been more witchy moments.
The characters in this one make it a strong novel. Rowan intrigued me as a heroine. She has so much emotional baggage to sort through and she's also dealing with falling in love for the first time. That is a lot for one girl to handle, but Rowan manages to start piecing herself back together emotionally through the course of the novel. I liked that she started out as a broken, fragile girl, but by the end she was badass, willing to take on pure evil to save the boy she loves. You can't help rooting for her and her happy ending. Likewise, Alex was quite the yummy leading man. He's handsome, loyal, brave, and a witch. What more could you ask for? The supporting characters were also likable. I particularly enjoyed Gram, Bevin, and Tyler.

The Salem Witch Trials have long held a fascination for many and I was excited to see how this novel would use history to influence its plot. Tara Fuller did a nice job of researching the era to make sure that things were accurate. Perigee Moon has components of The Crucible, Twilight, and The Time Traveler's Wife all wrapped up in one entertaining bundle.

Witches have long been one of my favorite paranormal groups and I am constantly looking for great witch novels to read. This one has been sitting on my Kindle for awhile, waiting for its chance to be read. I was really excited about this one because it is set in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The name of that town instantly reminded me of the Sons of Ipswich from the movie, The Covenant. I loved that film and its brand of magic so I was already in the right frame of mind to read this one.
I was surprised to see that this novel revolves more around the romance/relationship aspect than the paranormal aspect. Yes, there are witches and yes, there is some sinister paranormal forces at work, but I wanted more of those elements. The romance between Rowan and Alex is sweet and enjoyable, but it felt like these sections of the novel dragged after awhile for me. I got that they had this impossible love - I didn't need to be reminded of that in almost every chapter. I really enjoyed reading this - don't get me wrong - I just wish that there had been more witchy moments.
The characters in this one make it a strong novel. Rowan intrigued me as a heroine. She has so much emotional baggage to sort through and she's also dealing with falling in love for the first time. That is a lot for one girl to handle, but Rowan manages to start piecing herself back together emotionally through the course of the novel. After teenager Rowan's mother is killed in a house fire, and Rowan attempts suicide, her father can barely stand to look at her. Therefore, Rowan is shipped off to live with her grandparents in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Rowan's always been different, able to feel what those around her are feeling. When a mysterious boy shows up in town, she is inexplicably drawn to him. However, he is a witch, and carries with him hints about Rowan herself and the death of her mother.
Perigee Moon was a tough read for me. From the publisher's blurb, we are promised witchcraft and magic, secrets unveiled, and time-travel to boot. Throw in Ipswich, MA, a town that I find fascinating but have yet to visit, and I was sold. Unfortunately, the book did not live up to hype. Instead, it was an insta-romance, where girl meets sees guy, falls head over heels, guy rejects girl, then confesses undying love, and they cannot live without each other. I'm so over this plot. It's pure fantasy, and the proliferation of permutations on this theme in young adult literature has caused me to abandon books once I see that this is where they are headed. Since I had this for a blog tour, I soldiered on, doing my duty to read the entire book to give an honest review, but I'd have rather stopped reading the moment Rowan meets Alex.
The book progresses with witch-hunt era diary entries by Alex about Rowan (he's a time-traveling witch from the time of the hysteria in Colonial America), and Rowan's desire for, and confusion about, the local bad boy. It was way over the top with gushing language, and I couldn't understand the attraction. They really seemed to have nothing in common, other than Alex dreaming about her. Throw in a one-dimensional villain, and an all-too-brief discovery of magical powers, and you have the plot in a nutshell.
There are quite a few very enthusiastic five-star reviews for this on Goodreads, which I don't really get, but maybe I'm just the wrong audience for this book. What I can say is that I've read at least a dozen books with very similar plots in the same genre, and this one just doesn't stand out as a particularly well-written or compelling example.
One last note: as stated earlier, I received this through the Debut Author Challenge ARC Tours, but it was well after the publish date. The book didn't say anything on it about being an advanced copy, so I'm assuming it was in its final form. There were quite a few typos throughout the text. For example, there was an instance when "than" was used in place of "then," and once "honeysuckle" was one word in one paragraph, and two words in the next. If I was reading the final copy of the book, Crescent Moon Press really needs to hire a better copy editor, because there were very obvious mistakes that should never have been published.

I'm in depression . My heart is broken .
Why ? Why oh ?
Why did you have to be so unlikable .
It seems that disappointment is in the air .
As you all might know , I'm a die hard fan of books with guys who have Alex as their names . Also I'm a romantic and I love sappy romance with lot's of crying and lot's of love and just lot's of sugar .
So for me , Perigee Moon has to be the perfect thing to read , right ? unfortunately , it hurts to say that , No it's not .
See I'm going to cut to the chase , You have Rowan . Her life is in a mess . She lost her mother few months ago , has psychic powers which make her feel weird and because of which she describes herself as a freak . Her father , lost in his own sadness doesn't quite acknowledge her presence and it's damn right depressing for her to be around people who constantly remind her of her mother's death . So to escape it all , She moves to Ipswich to stay with her grandparents . A New Life , A New beginning . New school and New friends . And she's easily accepted with loads of male affection towards her .
It all changes when she comes across this gorgeous guy with dark hair and blue eyes that pierce right though your soul . There is an instant attraction between both of them and you can say that it's love at first sight but in a more creepy paranormal way .
But things can't be so easy can they ? There is something different about Alex . Something Dark and Mysterious .
And what we find out is that Alex is a witch .
Even though there's an obvious fire between the two , they just can't be together . and why is that ? because there are evil things lurking around .
When I had finished reading this book , I knew that there was something very familiar about how things went . I have read something like this before but I couldn't quite remember what it was . This novel grabbed me from the very begining and I couldn't put it down until I read every page. The writing is beautiful and the charcters compelling. Rowan is a empathic teenaged witch who has lost her mother and home to a terrible fire. Alex is gorgeous, from another time, and also magically skilled. He's been dreaming of her since he was a child. Once they find each other, they will do anything to be together. This is a lovely book and I highly recommend it!

5++ Damn this book is good! Sucked me in from the start and I read the book in about 4 hours! I love the chars and that whole mystery and just..... Wow! Thank you, Tara, for writing this amazing book! Can't wait to read more of your books because the writing is flawless <3 glad this book isn't a series btw, I feel like this is the ending they should've had :)

Well, I liked the book - it was written beautifully, the romantic relationships between the protagonists were passionate and sweet, the plot was unusual and interesting. I liked the secondary characters, but the ending was incomplete, therefore I took away one star. Nice book - recommended for the fans of pure, sweet romance plus witches.

I really loved this book. I loved the connection between Alex and Rowan. The book was truly magical (no pun intended). I also loved Bevin, Rowan's best friend, she was great and was always there for Rowan. This story kept you on the edge of your seat and had a romance that left you breathless. I loved this book!!!

if this book would have been better written,i would have given it two stars, but i just can't.
this author based the story around rowan and alex's love instead of including love into the story. so really, there was no story.it was just all about their feelings.feelings should be burning on the backburner.it should be a part of story,not the center of a book.
im convinced that no1 is like this in real life-"u need a summer boy toy.sum1 to do-whoops!i mean sumthing to do to take ur mind off things." who is that boy crazy? &who has friends that are that,well, slutty, who just up&say things like that?
there's a million gramatical errors in here.like no commas where there should be.i honestly dont remember seeing a comma in here. words were broken into two words, when they should have been one word.idk how it got published like that.
i didnt like the main character right off.i don't wanna read about a character who cuts their wrists.
when i read the first diary entry in here,i thought a girl wrote it.&then when i found out a guy actually wrote it i was really shocked, because it sounded girly.obviously she cant write in a guys perspective.
the whole school thing in there was so stereotypical.popular kids just don't walk up to you and start talkin. if you've actually been to school,you'd know that.
&then the author didn't even say what classes rowan had or really described nething.it was like "im at school. and then, im at lunch.im not even sure why school was in here because the author didnt even write about it.i heard about her eating lunch and then a statement about math class and that was it.&then all of a sudden it was the last day of school.why didn't the author just have her go to her grandparents for the summer?

1minute she was standing in the waves,and after some vague description of a creature, she's under water.how did that happen? i think the thing ended up being the ghost of alex's mom.which popped up when they were kissing and about2 do it.yikes! who wants that.
another thing that was ridiculous was the fact that her grandparents never heard them in the house. like they came in the house&were talking and taking showers and no one even came up.
it was a little exhausting and stupid how everytime they were laying together or kissing, someone would come in the room.why would u want ur grandparents2 c that?
&NO parental figure worth his/her salt walks into a room where a guy is half dressed with the girl and is just okay with it and thinks its amusing.

whats up with these characters who let people pick out their clothes &tell them what to wear.you'd think they were ten instead of 17.&they go to parties and drink when they dont want to.its like they dont have a mind. &where are the characters with morals?
this book was chuck full of sappy feelings and not much else.the flowery speech sickened me &it was almost too much to bear.i mean they barely knew each other and the L word was bein thrown around.
this book got pretty steamy at times,which was really surprising because its a teen book.
the cover,& the font she chose in the book makes it a little cheap and looks like its for kids.

rowan is a newly discovered witch with no experience and yet when her grandma is telling her to envision white lights and then tells her to let it go,she does it like she's had a lot of experience.its unrealistic.she talks about pushing the ball of light. like most ppl would be how the heck do i envision being enveloped by a ball of light &how the heck do i push something in my mind?! but rowan got it on the 1st try.UNREALISTIC.
everytime alex would stay gone,she's like i hadn't heard from him in three whole days.i didn't know if he was coming back.
alex was completely smothering.a lot of books are like that where the couple is constantly touching. like "i shivered.he noticed&was immediately by my side." i guess some girls like to be constantly coddled and taken care of.i personally find it annoying.
her grandma kept pushing her to go out and basically let her and alex do whatever and yet when she comes home saying she drank that night her grandma's like i didnt want you to do that.mixed messages there.
i dont even know why her grandparents were in here.her grandpa made a grand total of 2 appearances in the book.&her grandma was like The Worst Chaperone Ever.&then everyone was always just walking into the house and her grandparents were always sleeping or weren't there.&then they end up going away.&i was like seriously?! as if that really happens.
rowan wanted to protect and help alex so much that instead of staying home and learning protection spells or w/e,she goes out shopping.
she would say things like "i was so sick of teenage boys and their elevated testosterone levels' as if she didn't like seeing two boys kinda fight over her or be jealous of the other one.&i didnt realize her and tyler were friends.
alex and rowan almost do it every time they're together.one second you think they're gunna do it and the next she's falling asleep.who does that? each time they'd get further and further &i swore they were gunna do it.i really thought it the last time.&as always some crazy distraction would happen and stop them.those scenes were unnecesary anyway,but if you're not gunna complete it, then don't even put it in there.it was annoying and exhausting.
why did paige keep throwing things in tyler's face about alex and rowan? she's the one who gave rowan a lil speech about giving tyler a chance and not to hurt him because he "really likes you." and then she's over the hurting his feelings.
i didn't like how everyone knew about the grimoir,like paige and bevin.(btw stupid name!)
then she's like "so what if i was a witch.maybe i didn't need friends who were so short sighted" as if tyler knows ur a real witch or like ppl should just accept it.real life isnt like that.u stupid idiot.&then tyler is like ok cool,lets walk into a wiccan shop,because all people are that accepting.
"And alex was driving me crazy.¬ in that can't keep my hands off him way, which was usually the case." as if you mind it.you've never said you didn't like it.you encourage it and are the same way.you slut.shes pretty handsy herself.

how did rowan not realize he wasn't her age when she's known for quite a while that hes from the 1600s?! what an idiot.
they pray to the goddess and god for strength.i didn't know god was included in witchcraft.
some things like encantations,chants and spells were stupid.like see-me-not spell. how about an invisible spell?
alex's name was already in the salem witch trial book as witches who have hung and yet she checks to see if it magically disappeared.if it worked, he wouldn't have been in it in the 1st place. which, it ends up happening, so w/e.geez,messin with time is so hard to figure out!
what's up with these friends steering their friends wrong? bevin basically told her to do it with alex because he was "the one." no1 can tell you who "the one" is for you.&she certainly has no way of knowing that.
ok,so rowan tells bevin that alex is a witch and all that jazz and she's like "honey he was just trying to get in your pants." i didn't realize that was a pickup line.i almost died laughing. just because you've had experience with guys like that and you're slutty doesn't mean every1 else is. except,rowan kind of is, but w/e.
the way bevin went along with the witch thing was totally unreal.for some reasons, authors dont try and take the time to make characters truly believe something outrageous or show their true reactions2 things. everything is unbelievable.

rowan was clumsy too.
she always threw herself at the guy and he always pulled away.like bella&edward.
if i hear "irrevocably in love" one more time,im gunna scream.ive never even heard of the word b4 twilight &now every1 uses it.
rowan gets herself into a situation like bella does when a guy is about to attack her.&of course, the guy comes swooping in&saves her.
&then they almost kiss&he jumps across the room like edward did.
rowan says he didn't act like any teenage boy she knew,like "the way he talked" when he didn't talk different.he sounded like a teenage boy2 me.just because he has an accent, doesn't mean hes automatically from a different time period.ugh!
they even kissed on the porch here.reminiscent of twilight.
alex staying with her at night to help with her nightmares was like edward.
the whole "am i supposed to watch you wither &die" was like twilight.
and "id give up a thousand lifetimes for just a minute with you." thats an example that's kinda like twilight and other books.&its also an example of the flowery,corny speech in here.it would have been better if he had just sed "for just one lifetime with you." minute is a little stupid and unbelievable.
her grandma pushing her to get out and have a life was like bella's dad wanting her to hang out with friends.
her going shopping and then leaving to go sumwhere else was like bella.
the title is even like New Moon.
"Sometimes what we love isn't always the best thing for us" seemed right out of twilight.
does this sound familiar2 ne1?-im 18,but im acutally 300+years old.there again,she copies but she changes it a little.
"i think you might be a lil old for me in that case" is a weak imitation of other books that have the girl make jokes about his age.
rowan was like bella because she was constantly having accidents where she got hurt and then lied about like "i fell down the stairs."
her grandparents didnt even sound like grandparents.they sounded like young people.
i thought it was funny that she was supposed to be a normal girl and yet her name was rowan.&yet, the person who was born from a "magical" world in a time of witches is named alex.
her name-Rowan Melody Bliss-is almost sickening.
everything in this book was extremely rushed.her eyes connect with his and she throws out a comment like "that's when my world was changed forever." as soon as that happend the feelings started rushing in like a tidal wave.like they're second meeting,they go back to her house and are taking showers.
1minute she was standing in the waves,and after some vague description of a creature, she's under water.how did that happen? i think the thing ended up being the ghost of alex's mom.which popped up when they were kissing and about2 do it.yikes! who wants that.
another thing that was ridiculous was the fact that her grandparents never heard them in the house. like they came in the house&were talking and taking showers and no one even came up.
it was a little exhausting and stupid how everytime they were laying together or kissing, someone would come in the room.why would u want ur grandparents2 c that?
&NO parental figure worth his/her salt walks into a room where a guy is half dressed with the girl and is just okay with it and thinks its amusing.
rowan took everything in stride about alex and being a witch.it was so unrealistic.
it was WAY too soon for love in this book.ugh!
whats up with these characters who let people pick out their clothes &tell them what to wear.you'd think they were ten instead of 17.&they go to parties and drink when they dont want to.its like they dont have a mind. &where are the characters with morals?
this book was chuck full of sappy feelings and not much else.the flowery speech sickened me &it was almost too much to bear.i mean they barely knew each other and the L word was bein thrown around.
this book got pretty steamy at times,which was really surprising because its a teen book.
the cover,& the font she chose in the book makes it a little cheap and looks like its for kids.
the humor isnt spot on at all.its rlly weak.most of the time,you read things that are supposed to be funny,but it isnt at all.
rowan is a newly discovered witch with no experience and yet when her grandma is telling her to envision white lights and then tells her to let it go,she does it like she's had a lot of experience.its unrealistic.she talks about pushing the ball of light. like most ppl would be how the heck do i envision being enveloped by a ball of light &how the heck do i push something in my mind?! but rowan got it on the 1st try.UNREALISTIC.
everytime alex would stay gone,she's like i hadn't heard from him in three whole days.i didn't know if he was coming back.
alex was completely smothering.a lot of books are like that where the couple is constantly touching. like "i shivered.he noticed&was immediately by my side." i guess some girls like to be constantly coddled and taken care of.i personally find it annoying.
her grandma kept pushing her to go out and basically let her and alex do whatever and yet when she comes home saying she drank that night her grandma's like i didnt want you to do that.mixed messages there.
i dont even know why her grandparents were in here.her grandpa made a grand total of 2 appearances in the book.&her grandma was like The Worst Chaperone Ever.&then everyone was always just walking into the house and her grandparents were always sleeping or weren't there.&then they end up going away.&i was like seriously?! as if that really happens.
rowan wanted to protect and help alex so much that instead of staying home and learning protection spells or w/e,she goes out shopping.
she would say things like "i was so sick of teenage boys and their elevated testosterone levels' as if she didn't like seeing two boys kinda fight over her or be jealous of the other one.&i didnt realize her and tyler were friends.
alex and rowan almost do it every time they're together.one second you think they're gunna do it and the next she's falling asleep.who does that? each time they'd get further and further &i swore they were gunna do it.i really thought it the last time.&as always some crazy distraction would happen and stop them.those scenes were unnecesary anyway,but if you're not gunna complete it, then don't even put it in there.it was annoying and exhausting.
why did paige keep throwing things in tyler's face about alex and rowan? she's the one who gave rowan a lil speech about giving tyler a chance and not to hurt him because he "really likes you." and then she's over the hurting his feelings.
i didn't like how everyone knew about the grimoir,like paige and bevin.(btw stupid name!)
then she's like "so what if i was a witch.maybe i didn't need friends who were so short sighted" as if tyler knows ur a real witch or like ppl should just accept it.real life isnt like that.u stupid idiot.&then tyler is like ok cool,lets walk into a wiccan shop,because all people are that accepting.
"And alex was driving me crazy.¬ in that can't keep my hands off him way, which was usually the case." as if you mind it.you've never said you didn't like it.you encourage it and are the same way.you slut.shes pretty handsy herself.
this book is really repetitive,what with the constant touching.taking a shower.going to sleep.
how did rowan not realize he wasn't her age when she's known for quite a while that hes from the 1600s?! what an idiot.
they pray to the goddess and god for strength.i didn't know god was included in witchcraft.
some things like encantations,chants and spells were stupid.like see-me-not spell. how about an invisible spell?
alex's name was already in the salem witch trial book as witches who have hung and yet she checks to see if it magically disappeared.if it worked, he wouldn't have been in it in the 1st place. which, it ends up happening, so w/e.geez,messin with time is so hard to figure out!
what's up with these friends steering their friends wrong? bevin basically told her to do it with alex because he was "the one." no1 can tell you who "the one" is for you.&she certainly has no way of knowing that.
ok,so rowan tells bevin that alex is a witch and all that jazz and she's like "honey he was just trying to get in your pants." i didn't realize that was a pickup line.i almost died laughing. just because you've had experience with guys like that and you're slutty doesn't mean every1 else is. except,rowan kind of is, but w/e.
the way bevin went along with the witch thing was totally unreal.for some reasons, authors dont try and take the time to make characters truly believe something outrageous or show their true reactions2 things. everything is unbelievable.
"my cheeks were pale and flushed." how can they be both?
she had been doing magic for a lil while &when bev's like you're not a witch,rowan is like i think i might be.as if there was any doubt that she was.
of course,she trows tyler off on bevin.ugh! idk which i like worse,where the guy ends up hurt and with no1,or when the author just throws him with someone.i definitely didnt like bevin.
this story wasn't developed at all.the characters weren't developed.no one was likeable. it was a huge ripoff of twilight and other books.except just to make it different, she made it about witches. &changed some other stuff. she didnt even copy it in a good way.you dont want ppl making a million connections to other books.
&basically,no reaction for anything in here was realisitc.like when tyler looked at her wrists and was like you cant do that again,or w/e he said.it wasn't a normal reaction 4 sum1 to have at all. &then her dad comes in the end and that whole thing was patched up really quickly.like idk how long they were distant and she was angry at him and its all patched up in the span of like 2 minutes.
she's one of those authors who doesn't take the time to truly describe what a person looks like, so you never get a true idea of a persons features.what happened to the days when authors would go into great detail about a person?!
this was a short book but it took forever to read and it wasn't enjoyable.i wasnt happy to read it. the fact that it was centered around all these corny,sappy feelings and not much else prevented me from even giving it a chance.i wouldn't read it again.&there were hardly any good things about this book.i remember liking one thing about it but i cant remember wut it was now.something like his name being in the book or something like that that was kind of cool.

When I saw that Perigee Moon was about witches I knew I had to read it. I am so grateful to the author (who I follow on twitter and is a lot of fun) for giving me a copy of it to read for review. It was a lot of fun to read. This book has a little of everything: mystery, romance, a spunky heroine, and most importantly: a swoon worthy boy.
Rowan is not a perfect heroine and I adored that about her. She has had a trouble past, and unlike in a lot of books, it wasn't forgotten and swept under the rug. It's something that she deals with every day, and I love how her grandparents and best friend Bevin are always checking up on her to make sure everything is ok. The friendship that Rowan and Bevin have is one of the best things about this book. Even after Rowan moves, the two keep in touch. I really liked how Rowan knew there would be heck to pay if she didn't get back to Bevin to let her know things were still alright with her. The friends she makes in Ipswich, Paige and Tyler were equally as great as Bevin. They pester her and make her do stuff with them to show that they care about her just as friends do in real life.
The romance in Perigee Moon between Alex and Rowan was really sweet. At first I thought it was a bit crazy that Rowan could just fall for him with one look. When Rowan made a comment along those lines I knew it was going to be fun seeing how Rowan and Alex finally got together. While I figured out the mystery behind Alex pretty early on, I enjoyed watching Rowan work things out to get it. One thing that impressed me was that all the questions I had about Alex during the first half of the book were answered by the end of it.
Perigee Moon wasn't what I expected and I loved how different it was from other paranormal young adult books that I've read. I was really hoping that there would be a sequel to this book, but sadly there is not.):

This was an odd one. The plot worked in theory but there were a number of holes that threatened to swallow me whole if I let myself think too much about them. It felt to me as though the answers were too simple and within reach, I didn't feel that what was happening to Rowen and Alex was genuine. The idea that he'd fallen in love with a dream was one thing but to have Rowen reciprocate his feelings so quickly just didn't sit well with me. Don't get me wrong, Alex was certainly worth loving but it all happened a little too fast for me to find it believable. An easy read, either way, and a nice light way to spend a lazy winter afternoon.

this book was a great read definitely for those who are in for lovestruck, true-love, can't- live-without relationships. it has a great mythical witches theme. Tara spun a mysterious tale with great characters. I felt that the building up of the relationship went too fast from the start, ignoring the fact of the other plot that explains the witch connection.
