Ever have one of those bad ideas just pop into your head? You know the ones. They seem like a great idea at the time, but if you had stopped to think about it a moment…

I’m talking about those ideas where you just seize the moment and do what your heart tells you to. Then, after the dust settles and you get bandaged up, your parents say, “What the hell were you thinking?”

This is one of Hayden's best stories so far. Full of his trademark wit and humor, My Soul to Keep is his first young adult novel (and first of the Rise of the Fallen series!). Of course it slips into the paranormal genre as well and we get an added bonus of some romance! There are some wonderful tender scenes that had me sniffling. The characters will keep you laughing through an action packed, twisted plot.
Have your tissues handy. If you're not laughing so hard you cry at Hayden's wit and humor

This isn't my first Sean Hayden book, but I think it's his best so far. Hayden tells a story of high school/teen angst which becomes complicated when the main character, Connor, makes an ill-advised deal: his soul for his fondest wish. When he figures out a way to sort of 'game' the deal, he becomes immortal - and incredibly powerful.

Then he falls in love.

I got pulled into the story at some point, and I loved the way Hayden connects with his teenaged characters, with their emotions, with their c

At first I didn't think I would like this book but once I started to read it, I really started too. A interesting twist to the "Angel" and "Demon" idea but also a little dash of wish making.

I will be looking for the 2nd one in the series.

When I see a young adult paranormal book, I know what to expect. There's a definite formula that's fairly predictable. My Soul to Keep busts some of those stereotypes, and does it in a witty and charming way. The world Hayden creates is filled with the unexpected, but my favorite thing about the story is just how quickly the abnormal becomes acceptably mundane. That's where the author's sense of humor comes in, making what could be trite in less skilled hands into a funny and delightful ride whe ...more

You’ve seen the title before, right? It’s not the same book. I have to admit, the title is slightly used but it actually goes along with the story extremely well and I can’t imagine another title that would fit as appropriately. For a quick, action urban fantasy/paranormal romance story, My Soul to Keep is fun, unique and has a surprisingly exciting ending. I can’t wait for the next one ;)

Be careful what you wish for…:

It’s a great thing to fall in love. It’s an absolute devil of a thing to jeopardise the one you love. What price would you pay to have granted any wish you could imagine?

Connor, the very definition of an average guy, enjoys not much more in life than playing video games… and loathes not much more in life than algebra! In a moment of manic lunacy, he decides to make a deal with…the devil?… he has no idea. He’s just bored. And he has a black candle. And with a drop of

Be careful what you wish for. Maybe young Connor Sullivan should have though of that very adage when he is given the chance to have a wish granted. Oh, of course he will argue that he was under a lot of pressure at the time and speaking of time, he did not have a it to make a “better” choice if

Conner made a split decision that would effect the rest of his life. Some things you cant change, you make the decision and you can never can go back, Conner learned this the hard way. His intentions were never to harm anyone, he only wanted to undue something he wasn't sure how he did in the first place.

I loved the dynamic between all of the characters. Claire was my favorite she is sassy, and mean but you can feel through the author how she feels about Conner. Jess is sweet and I knew she had

I started this book, and could not put it down. I had to finish it, and did so in less than a day. I cannot rememebr the last time I read a full novel that quickly. The characters were well balanced and seemed ... well, lifelike. There was a real sense of presence in every page. Sean Hayden does an incredible job at building the character-reader relationship. The dialogue and exchanges that occur were for lack of a better word flawless.

The paranormal angle, the family and social dynamic of high

My Soul to Keep is the first in the Rise of the Fallen series by Sean Hayden. The first thing you notice about this book is the author’s quick wit and knack for well timed sarcasm. He has a great ability to lighten up a dark story. Hayden also manages to pull different elements of supernatural, action and romance into a seamless story that keeps you intrigued from start to finish! I was pleasantly surprised that there were some tear jerking tender moments! I had the opportunity to read some of S ...more

One of the best fantasy stories I've ever read. I started this book something past 6pm. As others here said, you cannot literally shake your eyes off it while you're reading. Its now midnight, and I've literally devoured it. Can't wait for a sequel.

Narration flows perfectly. Characters are well portrayed, and most importantly... what an interesting ending. (I won't make spoilers :) )

Sean, thanks for this beautiful book.

Badass biker babes from Hell? Check. Demons galore? Check. Hilarious dialogue, crackling danger and enough twists and turns to name a roller coaster after it? Double-check. My Soul to Keep is another great entry in my Sean Hayden library. What, you don’t have one yet? What are you waiting for!?!? This book is a great place to start...

Very good story!! The characters in this story are great, the storyline is clear and flows smoothly. This author left no ends untied, even thou this is part one of a series when you put this book down you feel as if the story wraps up nicely. Great Read for those who are into the under world.

My Soul to Keep by Sean Hayden is book one of the Rise of the Fallen series and it is a very unique take on Angel mythology. In fact, I think I can say with complete confidence you've never read anything like it! This story is about a teenage boy named Connor Sullivan and how one night he sold his soul for one wish, however idiot that he is, he thinks it's a joke. Well, at least he does until a very beautiful woman riding a motorcycle shows up to grant said wish. To outsmart her, he wishes to be ...more

This was a fun, fast read with lots of action and great characters. Connor is a sarcastic teen with a quick wit and a sharp tongue, but he’s got a heart, which is his redeeming quality right out of the gate. When he says a mysterious chant he isn’t sure where he heard, he’s offered the opportunity for immortality. Connor turns it upside and asks for the one thing no one has asked for before, to become one of the Fallen, those with the powers to grant immortality to others. To say Connor doesn’t ...more

My Soul To Keep was a wonderful story. It put a new but familiar twist on angels and demons, or rather the Chosen and the Fallen. The book was well written, and the characters were well drawn out. The story kept me entertained till the very end, and even wanting more.

The book was written nicely, and made for a fast paced read. Sean was pretty straight forward with the idea of the story, and subtle with hints of things that might happen next, which made the book all the more mysterious. The book

"My Soul to Keep" started off pretty good and then, I don't know, I got tired of the style of writing. I felt like the writing was very sarcastic and there's only so much I can take. Perhaps if Connor- the protagonist- wasn't so corny, I might have appreciated the writing a little more.

I liked the plot though. It held my attention and even though I had my suspicions about a couple things, in the end I was proven wrong. So it wasn't as predictable as I thought it would be. If you're bored, go ah

I found this book to be truly entertaining. I can't say that often enough. It also has the distinction of having an original premise. I don't expect the subsequent books in the series to be as original, but I do anticipate them being well-written.

I couldn't help but notice a couple of minor misconceptions on the author's part, though. First, you DO need a license to drive a scooter. At least, everywhere where I've checked. Second, the Volkswagen Beetle is not a subcompact car. It can be called a

i didnt know what to expect when i recieved this book to review, but i was very pleased when i began reading it and realised it was right up my alley of genres. I have to admit that I wasn't really sure what to expect when I started reading this book. I like that the book is supernatural but believable at the same time. No one is super rich, lives in a mansion, and the interactions at Conner's high school are realistic. It makes it so much easier to relate to the characters and even though you know it isn't real well just maybe. It is a new take on demons and angels which is refreshing and not so full of drama as other books. I look forward to seeing wh ...more

I received this book free from the publisher. I thought it was a great read. Connor is a great character. He is your typical teen guy that loves his video games and hates pink. Clarisse is an awesome mentor for Connor after he makes his wish. Jessica is just a sweet teenager, so who could blame Connor for falling in love. The cover really caught my eye. The title is very fitting. I am looking forward to reading more of Sean Hayden's work. The book is well written and entertaining.

“Mr. Parker’s mouth dropped open like a toddler had crawled under his desk and whacked him in the giblets. I tried not to giggle as he slowly closed his mouth and stood up from behind his desk. I expected him to start shouting obscenities about the stupidity of pre-marital sex, but he walked around and closed the door behind me. I could practically hear the phone call he would make to my mother in my head.

“Connor, I hope I don’t need to give you a lecture about how dangerous it is for someone of your age to engage in such activities?”

“No, sir. Trust me when I say, it was an accident and won’t be happening again for as long as I live my life as a single person. Such activities are best left to those with more experience and have joined their lives in holy matrimony.” I fought hard to keep my face sincere and deadpan. I didn’t know what the hell was going on with me, but I liked it. Not only had I come up with the most unbelievable lie in the universe, I sounded heartily sorry for it too.”
