I really didn't know what to expect when I began reading this book. Yes, I read the synopsis and I was eagerly awaiting it's release, so as soon as the wonderful KaSonndra Leigh offered an ARC copy for me to read, I was blown away, yet again, by her amazing generosity. I want to take the time out now to thank KaSonndra for giving me the opportunity to read and review it, and let me just say that she surpasses my expectations every time. I love everything that KaSonndra writes and this book just joined the list. I mean, just when I think I know which way the story or writing is going...BAM! Ms Leigh really knows how to surprise you and keep a reader captivated that's for sure.
Dark Seraphine is a book shrouded in mystery and secrets. It's about a young man named Caleb Wood who always knew he was a little different. He could hear, see and speak to beings that nobody else could see. He names them "walkers" and they just pop up all over the place. He really never thought anything of them and they never tried anything with him either. Until one of them started conversing with him and his life would never be the same again. For some reason, he felt a deep connection with this "walker" who is called Gia. She is not only beautiful and sexy but she is a total bad ass who saves Caleb plenty of times. It was funny to hear him constantly go on about how he should be saving, not being saved. It's very refreshing to see the roles reversed, having the "girl" save the "boy". But, once Gia comes into his life, so do a few other creepy things. Like men dressed in black; crazy ass gals who want to kill him, and Caleb starting to gain more strength then he already had. Yep, along with Gia, Caleb finds himself being thrown in the middle of an ancient feud.
I love reading books in a guys POV so when I started this, I was so excited to read Caleb's story and hear what he had to say. And let me tell you that being in a teenagers mind is one scary place for a middle aged woman like myself. Whoa! I was laughing-out-loud, loved getting his thoughts and perspective, though at times I wanted to pound his head in for not pushing hard enough or telling one certain girl, Erica, to back the hell off. She was annoying the hell out of me and I was like "seriously girl, you better stop throwing yourself at him knowing that he was in love with someone else." and then I thought, "Hang on, why is Caleb not telling her to piss off." LOL! But, then I started to really feel for him and understood him. Yes, I understood a male teenager. Underneath his coolness and attitude, was a guy who was really hurting and being kept in the dark on a lot of matters. He had a mother who adored him, but a father who wanted nothing to do with him. It was so sad at times, not knowing why he's father never wanted to give him the time of day. But, seriously, he's father is a douche bag.
I was so frustrated at times and desperately searching for any clues and answers as to what was happening to Caleb and around him. I had to know and could not put the book down till all was revealed. And, so did Caleb. He was feeling all kinds of frustration too and I was sighing half the time and then everything finally unravelled itself, shedding light on so many "aha" moments for both Caleb and me. I finally knew why and just when you think you know it all, BOOM, another spanner is thrown in, just to keep you on your toes. Thank God there is another book to follow this because I need to know more, I have to know more. I want more KaSonndra Leigh.
I could tell that Ms Leigh really enjoyed writing this book, getting deep in a guys mind and I really enjoyed reading it. KaSonndra Leigh, you did not disappoint. Can't wait for the next book.
