Now Pearl is branded as faulty, and could make it worse when she has her children. With her father gone as well, she is stuck with the other OverShadowers who look down on her.

When Pearl is caught running away, her Leader, Adskhan, surprises her by letting her have something she's always craved:

Freedom. She will still need to get Fastened, the OverShadower’s way of marriage. But until the time comes, she can do as she pleases.

She is allowed to go to a school with humans, where she meets funny, kindhearted Max, who respects her for her.

Just when things are starting to look up, her abilities start acting up. With her Fastening Day just around the corner, Pearl is worried about what this means for her.

When Adskhan reveals secrets about why her abilities aren't working as they should, Pearl doesn't know who to trust anymore.

Will she make it through? Or is that shadow future for her?

More Reviews Here: Readers Live A Thousand Lives

Shadow Future is a very quick read. It centers around a young girl who has been brought up in a world where the rules equate rules from medieval times. Women are good for nothing but getting married and making babies, and they do so at the extremely young age of fifteen. The men hold all the power, so when our heroine wants freedom, naturally problems arise. The reader watches her try to find herself in a world where it seems nearly impossible.

Pearl is a character that I think a lot of young girls can relate to. Aside from the paranormal aspects, she really is just a teenager. She feels trapped in her life, like most teens at one point, and she is just trying to figure out who she is and what her future holds. She goes from blindly accepting the way her life has been laid out to striving to make her life her own. I think all teens at some point feel that they have no control over their life and this book parallels that nicely. Then take these normal teenage problems and throw some paranormal in there and it just makes things worse.

While I enjoyed the story line, I was slightly disappointed. I just felt the story had so much more potential. It was good, but I think it could have been great. There was just something missing, I’m not entirely sure what. Maybe because I appreciated the story but I had a hard time relating to it. I think this book is better suited for younger teens. They will be able to relate to Pearl coming of age where it was very difficult for me to do so at this point in my life.

While the beginning was a bit slow, as the book progresses it gets better and better, which leaves me hope for the sequel. When I first started reading I was wary of the book and honestly was not sure if I would finish. However, as the story progressed I became more and more hooked. The end of the book really amps up the action and keeps you guessing. It takes numerous twists and turns and it is hard to know which characters can be trusted and which ones cannot be trusted.

Overall I would recommend this book to teen readers (13 to 16ish.) I think they will really enjoy this story and relate to Pearl in a way that adults cannot. It is a quick read and I think this series has a lot of potential.

Pearl Underwood is the only female of her generation in her species, the OverShadowers. Because of this, she goes between being treated as a second class citizen, and a small child. Needless to say, she does not like either way. But in a world where her future has been decided for her, what can she do? Maybe not much--but Pearl isn't going down without at least trying to do things her way.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I must say it pleasantly surprised me! It was a quick read, and I was a little upset that it ended where it did. LOL. But that's why books are so often made into series now!

Pearl was a great character. I liked her voice, and found her kind of young and awkward (in a good way) sometimes, even though she tries to put on a tough front. She has so much pressure on her shoulders, and it must be really difficult to not have any choice about what your future is going to be like.

There were a couple of twists thrown in that I also loved. The action towards the end of the book was fast paced, and actually left me saying. "What is happening?!"...but in a good way, if that makes sense.

I only had a couple of problems with this book. Keeping in mind that the edition I read was an ARC, there were mistakes and awkward phrasings that I had to figure out to determine what was going on in some scenes. But for the most part I got it. I also wish that some of the scenes were described a little more. Many of the sentences were lacking descriptive adjectives, or even just a couple more sentences that would have explained better what was happening.

All in all, I enjoyed this book, and I'm excited to read about what happens next in Pearl's life.

Pearl is an Overshadower. After a runaway attempt fails, she lands herself in public school. Freedom is so not what she expected she'd get. Especially as her Fastening day is creeping up on her. But Pearl has had enough of being told what to do, and now she is finally going to stand up for herself and her future.

This book was fantastic! Pearl, despite her strict upbringing, is not afraid to be herself. She is smart, courageous and witty at times. Adskahn is the drop dead gorgeous boy in the boy and he melted my heart. Max is the boy trying to steal Pearl's heart away. Along with the other 3 boys, it makes for a stella character cast.

This was a fast read for me! I enjoyed it thoroughly, all expectations thrown out the window. The twists that I encountered left me on the edge of the seat. I can not wait for the next book to be released!

This was truly amazing and well written book. And I am not just saying that because the Author is my friend! It has all the essentials that you want in a book: Magic, Family, wizardry, fun, and romance. It is a quick read, but as soon as you start reading you can't put it down! It keeps you on the edge of your seat, and is true master piece! If you have not yet read this book please do! You will not regret it, and you will not be able to wait till the next book comes out! :) Thanks for reading my review! :)

Yes, I did enjoy my own book. ;) Even though at times I got tired of reading it over and over again. But in the end, it's worth it. :)
