Smack My Pitch Up is about business writing. Many of us get blocked, lost, anxious and confused when forced to put our thoughts into words. Here are the tools and techniques to improve the quality and speed of your writing.
I'll tell you how to attract readers and, once they're completely in your thrall, turn them into loyal followers. Your confidence will grow as you learn how to structure and plan your writing. You'll get clear messages across quickly. And you'll do it with style.
In 2009 I joined the Faber and Faber Novel Writing Course. I wrote every day, scribbling ideas down on the metro and in airport lounges. People at the Financial Times heard about the strange events that happened to me, and they convinced me I had a great story to tell.
My first book, The Devil's Deal, was published by FT/Prentice Hall in 2012. It featured in the Top Twenty of WH Smith's Business Book Chart and was Pearson's Business Book of the Month. It was number one in the Malaysian non-fiction charts and was book of the month in the Magrudy's chain across Asia and the Middle East. Translation rights were sold in nine territories, including China, Japan and Korea.
This book tries to combine a storyline with explaining facts about the financial system. But I had the feeling the storyline was getting in the way and this gave the entire book a very artificial feeling.
An intriguing experiment; the author has taken a tale of financial fraud and smuggling and interspersed it with mini-lectures about various financial topics, ranging from the relationship between bonds and interest rates to the Tulip Bulb mania of the 1630s. The plot of the "novel" episodes are merely necessary, but as a primer on how to become familiar with the markets, I consider this to be extremely useful, especially considering that it was published after the Collapse of Lehman Brothers, so this book is as current as today's headlines.
And I wouldn't dream of telling you the twist ending to the story.
Simplified financial terms with easy to follow examples. Add that to a thriller plot while learning the financial terms. Very useful introduction book to finance world
I enjoyed how "Finance" was explained within a story. It makes learning what goes on in Finance easy to understand for non-financial people. It also reinforces what Finance people know in an easy to understand manner.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in understanding what goes on in finance and for studiers of finance too.
