Another one for the Tsunami of Tackiness shelf.
18 year old nitwit has an affair with suave, older Frenchman. As soon as he pumps her, he immediately dumps her by sending her a letter in which he abruptly informs her that he is married and there is no question of divorce.
Naturally, our poor innocent finds herself pregnant and valiantly tries to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Then, in a horrible, unnecessary twist, author has her character falling down some steps and consequently giving stillbirth to a fully formed, little baby girl. WTF Anne Mather?
As if that wasn't bad enough, the callous way the hero reacts when the heroine finally tells him about their poor little baby is....to try seducing her again? YUCK
I would have felt outraged on behalf of the heroine but she was a waste of hairspray who went around constantly unbuttoning her shirt and showing off her cleavage to get better bus seats, leading on the hero's infatuated, teenage son, and letting her demon spawn from hell niece wipe her feet on her. Dumb and dumber :(
Oh and my favorite part: Hero blames HER for everything!
For throwing herself at him so that he had no choice (none!) to succumb to her;
For not recognizing his self-sacrificing nobility for dumping her “cleanly” instead of making her his mistress;
For not telling him about her pregnancy after he made it clear to her she was a one and done.
So, of course, the heroine ends up apologizing to him in the end. Gaslighting Mission Success!
There was also some weird obsession with a scythe to cut the grass in her garden. Was the author trying for an erotic metaphor? Again, YUCK.
Let's not forget when she first met him, he was wearing a Groovy, Velvet Suit with silk shirt that made her swoooooonnnnn...

Although I will add that at least the H didn't blame the h for his disaster of a marriage, hence the redeeming one star (but I mean that's just because 0's not an option).

Harriett and Andre met when she was 18 and he was in his thirties. They had an affair and then Harriett learned that Andre was married and there was no chance of divorce.
Harriett then learned she was pregnant. After carrying the baby to almost full term, she fell down some stairs and lost her baby.
Eight years later she decides to buy a cottage in the French countryside and learned after the fact the Andre was the original owner of the cottage. Thrown together again, all the old hurt and feelings come rushing back and Harriett is forced to face her past all over again.
This was a wonderful read. Full of angst and pain. I had more sympathy for Andre than I did for Harriett. He lived in hell for years with his wife's illness and lost most of his money paying her medical bills. This poor guy couldn't catch a break.
I found Harriett annoying as hell. She wouldn't let Andre explain, kept treating him like dirt and shutting him out. She went through her own version of hell, but a ten minute conversation with Andre would have changed so much in their lives.
They finally got their HEA, but damn it took a lot of drama to get there.

Heroine had an affair with hero years ago. In the present, hero has a teenage son. Son lusts over heroine. Heroine turns him down but keeps horsing around with him and meeting him for drinks. Heroine forbids teenage niece from daring said son. Heroine can't understand why teenage niece is angry. Heroine is an idiot.

Very well-balanced Anne Mather story that has the usual elements of the plot. I liked that all four main characters were part of the story until the end, not just a one-on-one romance.

Hero and heroine met years back and had an affair. The heroine didn't know the hero was married and when she found out she was shocked and pregnant. She left him and eventually lost the baby whens he fell down the stairs. Now she meets him again and finds out the truth about everything and so does he. Eventually they get their happily ever after.
The book was kind of depressing and it saddened me that the heroine lost her baby. I cried. The hero was an asshat and ruined many lives.

i really liked this one! i cud feel the animal lust between andre and harriet and it made me hot! he was clearly unreasonable, where she was concerned. it's just a pity she did not trust him more, all those years ago. she shud have gone after him and asked for an explanation. it's laughable the lengths the author went to, to justify andre's behaviour. i dunt think harriet was the 1st nor the last wid which he cheated on his wife. after all, he was not even living wid his so-called wife! i also loved the trouble wid paul, it only added spice to the book, if not bordering on the incest side as well.

This is just kinda book i hate... the heroine and her niece is annoying... can't pull my self to read the whole book....
