If you've ever (a) used bronzer successfully, (b) visited TheBeautyDepartment.com, (c) looked up "beachy hair tutorials" on YouTube or (d) pinned any beauty tip regarding applying foundation or eye makeup, you won't need this book. I promise.
Much like "Lauren Conrad Style," I felt like this book was aimed more toward a high-school and junior-high set; the "tips" aren't anything we haven't all heard before (wash your face before you go to bed! avoid these ingredients in shampoos and makeup! don't flat-iron your wet hair!), and most of the information inside plus a couple of the tutorials have already been posted on TheBeautyDepartment.com (LC's beauty tip/style site).
What I was hoping for was a cover-to-cover cache of cute hair ideas, make-up tips and the like... instead, about 70% of the book is fluff about skin/hair care (which I promise you is nothing that common sense/any time spent on your own beauty routine hasn't taught you already), and the other 30% is where the tips and tutorials come in.
Another element that drove me crazy? LC's "writing voice." It couldn't be more bland if she tried; it's almost like you're reading a really intensive high-school essay at times that just happens to feature some cute photography. (Which I'll give it; the photography is DARLING)

Overall, totally disappointed. Skip this one unless you can page through it in a bookstore or pick it up at the library.

Disappointing. There was nothing new here, other than very general advice - get enough sleep, take me-time, eat well, put on makeup - and I feel like anyone who reads a magazine could get the same information.
I was most interested in Lauren's hairstyles; they were boring too. Mostly braids (which I can do already thank you) or hair worn down and wavy. Old news.

If you want this kind of information, either watch hair how-to videos on You Tube (more helpful) or read the Beauty section of any popular magazine.

This book was meant to help people learn about beauty. Page after page was about cool tips and tricks that everyone should know about and use or maybe serve as a reminder to use those tricks. There were do's and don'ts and crazy information about some products. There were great examples on how to do things and it was clear on each step you had to take. It told you what to avoid and it had chapters so you didn't have to search the whole book for little things.
I expected a little more from the book. It was all kind of repetative and basic. I did learn a couple things that I didn't know but it was really not the best thing. For some reason I was hooked on it at the time I was reading it but looking back at it, it was ok-good. I liked that the book wasn't just about her and how she mentions that no everyone is the same. She includes looks for different skin tones, undertones, and face shapes and I liked that; not everyone looks like LC.

Lauren Conrad is my idol. No really, she is. Another successful and well-written book. If you enjoyed or got help from her book Style, then you will love this one!

This book is the best of u are kind of new to makeup (12-18 yrs old or just not good at it) and it is written well, with 'big' words incorporated in good context. The fact that Lauren Conrad wrote this book was definitely the reason for me buying it, since she always looks healthy and great and I wanted to get all of her tips. I already knew she was a bearable writer since I read L.A Candy (best guilty pleasure books EVER.) I don't have a huge attention span so I was worried I would get bored and want to skip many pages, or even chapters. However, the book is thoroughly engaging and reads almost like an intelligently written magazine, like teen vogue in a handbook. Even though the book is co written, Lauren's voice shines through and she really sounds like herself in this book. (I never watched tons of Laguna beach or the hills episodes, but overall, she does sound like a normal 27 year old woman, not a 50 year old who talks like a psychiatrist, or a 15 year old trying to appeal to people who read tiger beat.) as for the information itself, I really needed this book. I've been using makeup for a few years, but I'm starting to get to the stage where it's very important to know how to apply makeup and not look like a clown. Surprisingly, this book isn't just about makeup. It's really about being beautiful. As bad of a role model a reality star who tells you how to look pretty sounds, the author is the complete opposite. The overall message of this book is to be healthy, stay natural, and live by the motto less is more. She is extremely intelligent and also very motivating. She tells you her mistakes and insecurities with such grace in the book that they make her seem even more flawless, while still making you feel a little bit better about yourself. Don't get this for anything other than entertainment if you are already a makeup artist or a grown woman who knows what is good for your skin and what isn't, how to stay healthy for yourself, and how to apply makeup in a tasteful and skilled way. But if you don't thin you qualify as an intermediate in makeup and health, I would recommend this book a thousand times over.

Primarily this book is for beginners, but as a more experienced makeup artist, hair stylist and "fashionista" I still found this an enjoyable book. It took me back to basics with all the things that I usually look past just because I know more advanced techniques. It proves you can create a perfect face with only a few products instead of the 50 billion that we usually thrash upon ourselves with every day. You can create a beautiful hairstyle in just a few steps and you can sure as heck amp up your style with only a few items.
Whether you're just beginning or need to be bought back down to the basics this book is a really good read, plus, once you're done, it makes a super pretty coffee table book!

For a person who only wears makeup about 30 percent of the time, I have read an astounding number of beauty books. This is not a bad one by any means, but I didn't actually learn anything new from it. If you've read other books on makeup and skin care, I'd say skip this one and just watch Conrad's YouTube tutorials for winged eyeliner.

That being said, the book has good information, great pictures, and excellent lists of safe and unsafe ingredients. This would not be a bad place to start for someone, especially a tween or teenager, who hasn't read other beauty books.

I absolutely love this book!! I have already started doing all the hairstyles with my daughter and I learned a little about make-up, brushes, nail polish, and other general beauty skills. I just loved how it is easy to look stuff up, the pictures help recreate the skills listed, and the helpful tips really are helpful. This was a pleasant surprise!!! A fantastic book for teens and adults!

I love Lauren Conrad's style. Always have. It's classy, clean, and cosmopolitan. But I didn't love this book like I loved her book Style. This book was more for girls who are maybe 12-14. It was just really basic stuff.

Everyone has pictures through their teen years where they are like.. what was I thinking??? It's like Conrad begins talking about things in the book but doesn't elaborate too far into the subject. I guess one thing in the book she does really get into is making a wing with your eyeliner. Which I am awful at to be honest. But it is cute.

There is a fun section at the end of the book where there are 6 pictures of Conrad dressesfrom the 20's-70's style look. While these are fun.. I don't know if they belonged in the book. I guess if it's Halloween and you are looking for what to wear.

I really just think this book is for a young young girl. Someone with zero beauty experience. Maybe even a girl in middle school who might be just starting to wear make-up and do her hair. For everyone else there is no new information.

There are some pics on my blog if you click the link above!

I am a huge Lauren Conrad fan. I wish to be as successful as her. When you look at her you know she is an amazing person and that's how I want to be. Anyway getting back to the book, it's an amazing book. She put in a lot of effort on this book and it is quite visible. If you own bobbi browns beauty rules you will find the two are very similar. But Lauren shares her own experience being on the spotlights and such. She is great. I'd rate it 5 but just because Lauren is my fave I won't give her book a wrong rating. Improvements were possible in this book in terms of avoiding the skin care and such parts

People mention it's nothing new, but when you find yourself out if internet, this book is a really good quick guide to have available!

I got few beauty-tips from this book (techiques and certain products to try basicly). I enjoyed Lauren's hairstyling-tips and Lauren's own looks in the book. I'm going to try them out and see maybe they'll become my looks as well;)

Honestly, I expected so much more from this book. It was pretty, no doubt about it, and would probably look nice as a coffeetable fashion-beauty pick. But that was about it. Not really any substance behind it; I basically flipped through it after getting bored with the actual material.

From her hit MTV show, The HIlls to her page turning, self-help book, Lauren Conrad has done it all. In her second installment of her self-titled, self-help books, Lauren Conrad Beauty, Conrad relays beauty hacks and tips that she swears by to the readers of this book.
Makeup, hair care, skin care, you name it, anything relating to beauty can be found in this book. Through the misfortune and success stories of her own life, Conrad gives helpful insight on what beauty beginners need to know. Starting with skincare and ending with picking out an outfit, she walks you step by step on how she gets ready for a night out and gives suggestions for how to cater to your individual personality. On top of beauty makeup tips in regards to getting ready, she also shares her secret to dealing with stress and finding yourself as you grow. Throughout this book, Conrad gives important beauty tips that she feels that every teenager should know.
This book pleasantly surprised me, as I was thinking it was going to be a retelling of her life. Although her tips are drawn from life experience, the book focuses more on catering to the needs of the readers, and taking her tips and making them your own. Also, it was a very quick and easy read. It got to the point and didn’t drag on like most self-help books tend to do.
In the introduction of her book, Conrad opens with the statement, “When I was a little girl, the first person I ever really thought of as beautiful was my own mother,” (1) and she then goes on to explain the daily routine that her mother did for make up. By using this as an opening paragraph, it is quite obvious that Conrad is trying to related to the emotion of her readers. Seeing your mother as beautiful, and the first strong female role model in your life is something that most readers can relate to. She is well aware of this fact, and hopes to stimulate a feeling of home and understanding within the audience. Another way that she reaches the readers emotionally is through connecting to the problem areas that everyone has had as a teenager. The number one problem being acne. In the quote, “High school is hard enough, why does acne have to make it unbearable some days?” (27), and then she goes on to give ways that might help clear up your skin. Acne is a problem that every teenager has encountered once or twice in their life, so she knows that writing about it will hit home. Both of these relate back to her sharing her beauty hacks with the world because it shows that she really cares about the tips that she is sharing with her readers. If there was not that emotional attachment, it would look like she didn’t care about what her readers thought.
Throughout the novel, there is also many times that Conrad used visuals for the tips she was describing. After the tips, there would be a step by step sequence of pictures that would be showing either Conrad or another person performing that tip. For example, on page 211, there is a step that states, “Step 1: Starting with clean, dry hair, take a 1” curling iron and curl sections at random. Just be sure to curl away from face continuously.” Next to this step is a picture of Conrad taking her hair into her hand and twisting it around the curling iron. By doing this, Conrad is hoping to relay to the audience that she knows what she is talking about and that you can trust her. Also, the reader can observe that throughout the book that when a product is described, more times than not, there is also a picture of the before described product. This also shows the reader that Conrad is well versed in the world of beauty, and that she has tried many products to find the one that works best.
In my opinion, this book most relates to readers who are just getting into beauty. Although it is very informational, it contains very basic steps that most experienced make up gurus should know, and if they don’t, could be learned from a simple YouTube video. If you have been a follower of Conrad from her Hills days, I would also suggest reading this. It gives insight into her life at that time, and gives you a point of view that would not be possible from just watching the TV show. This book is very easy to understand and would help beginners, or anyone who wants to read it immensely.
Lauren Conrad Beauty is a must have for all Hills lovers and beauty beginners. It contains tips and tricks that everyone must know and her extensive knowledge is proven through her emotional connection to the readers and visuals throughout the book.

[ This post was originally uploaded to http://www.theageofintimacy.com/laure... as part of a blogging/social media internship. ]

“While I hope you find the how-tos and lists helpful, I don’t want you to follow the advice thinking you should look like me – that’s why my face isn’t the only one in this book.”

Lauren Conrad was always a bit of a mystery to me. The only reality shows I usually watch are cooking shows such as ‘MasterChef Australia’ and ‘My Kitchen Rules’, British cleaning show ‘How Clean Is Your House’ or ‘Bridezillas’ (with a short period of watching ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in). Also, growing up, we didn’t have cable TV. So I missed the phenomena that was ‘Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County’, and thus the rise of Lauren Conrad’s TV personality.

So when I saw she had written a beauty book, I was intrigued. Recently, I’ve been trying to revamp my style, and that includes makeup and skincare. When I read the contents for this book, I knew this would be a good read for people like me. The first part of the book is all about finding the starting point of your style and tailoring your lifestyle to match it (with sections on skin and hair care, fitness and food, and stress); while the second part covers beauty looks for every occasion. Lauren proves to be very personable on the page, and she isn’t afraid to show her own style blunders through the years, comparing them with finally finding her style in a double-page spread. Her advice is sound and takes a “find what works best for you and stick with it” approach.

As someone with very dry and sensitive skin, I definitely appreciate that she understands what works for her (with her various skin disorders that she discusses frankly) won’t necessarily work for all the different types of skin that are out there. She also lays out the basic skincare routine that she uses, taking time to offer suggestions for different types of skin in each step; and also gives a comprehensive list of the chemicals to avoid in order to have skin in tip-top condition. With haircare, she provides a similar list of chemicals to avoid, as well as recipes for natural hair masks for any type of hair – a must if you’re like me and with super-thick dry-ish hair that may or may not have been fried by a blow-dryer recently – ouch!

I’ve never been one for fads like detoxing and juice cleansing, so I sort of skimmed over those pages. In that same section, however, she talks about eating right and gives lists of vitamins, what benefits they have, and which foods to find them in. She also includes her ‘on the road’ workout regime, which she uses while travelling, in order to keep the routine of exercise going.

The most beneficial section for me, however, had to be the one on makeup tips, tricks and techniques. Sometimes I feel like a little girl who’s playing with her mother’s makeup, but the photographs and labelling that Lauren uses in this chapter, as well as step by step dot points, is truly useful. She even includes a sample image of the naked eye along with seven different types of eyeliner, just to show the effect. This chapter is truly comprehensive and covers the gamut from the basics of foundation to which brushes to use and a rather funny section on ‘Beauty Crimes’ which include raccoon eyes, over-bronzing, and out of control bangs.

I really enjoyed this book because it managed to go in-depth without getting too serious about itself. There were also a variety of different tips and suggestions in the makeup and hair section, showing that Lauren really does rejoice in the fact that we are all different and that, with a little experimentation, we too can find the starting point which will lead to us owning our own style of beauty.

I had my 12-year-old in mind when I brought this book home. She's interested in hair and make-up, and I thought this might have some fun ideas and helpful tips. I was hoping for something a little more eye-catching, like a step-by-step blog post, so that aspect was a little disappointing. But we still wound up with a new idea or two.

No one was more surprised than me when I discovered Lauren Conrad is a great writer! Her anecdotes and advice are highly helpful. It has be thinking about access.

I'm no follower of Lauren Conrad; honestly, I've never given her five minutes before this book, but from what I understand, she grew up wealthy. So when I read in this book that she went to the psychiatrist/dermatologist/doctor of any kind, I'm assuming she went to the best money can buy. It also seems like she went to the psychiatrist/dermatologist/doctor of any kind pretty frequently (i.e. she took excessive good care of herself). So when Lauren Conrad wants to pass along that top of the line advice to everyone in America, it's probably worth my time to read it.

Here's a passage that had me immediately making changes in my life. From Page 55 - When I was filming The Hills, and managing the rest of my career, I felt completely overwhelmed: sleep-deprived, privacy-less (no surprise there!), and apprehensive, as all early-twenty-year-olds are, about my future. I wanted to succeed at everything - in the show, in my career in fashion, in my personal life. It was a lot to handle.

I finally went to see a doctor for advice, who cautioned me that stress not only poisons your body, it can actually be a form of addiction. While traditional "addicts" might use hard drugs as a release from stress, there's a whole different subset of people who don't know how to live without anxiety - for type A personalities, stress can be the pulse-quickening factor that drives them, at unhealthy speeds, through life. When you fell the signs of stress, what's actually happening is that your mind thinks you're in danger and is preparing you for it )the whole "flight or fight" response from our prehistoric days" by releasing more adrenaline and cortisol. This is great if you really are in danger and need to flee, but this is terrible for you when it happens on a regular basis. The constant uptick in these hormones wreaks havoc all over - your immune system suffers, skin problems can be exacerbated (the cortisol creates more oil, so your pores get clogged), you can become forgetful or depressed... for me, stress was taking a physical toll: My skin looked dull and blemished, I began to struggle to maintain my weight, and I even started to lose my hair. ...

So I took my doctor's advice and found ways to both relax and detox, and I made some major lifestyle changes. I began to educate myself on what I was putting into my body and how it was affecting me. I cut back on my caffeine intake (clearly my nervous system didn't need any more stimulation); I cut back on alcohol (it can impair sleep, and I needed my rest); I started eating better; I started exercising in a moderate way with more frequency. Sometimes spending an hour in the gym after a long day is the perfect way to de-stress. (Who needs therapy when you have kickboxing?) With some time and dedication, I finally got my anxiety levels back down to a very low simmer. Soon I looked and felt better: healthier, happier, glowing.

Beauty
By Lauren Conrad

Beauty by Lauren Conrad is a book that talks a lot about the healthy way to look and feel beautiful. Many women feel like they have to cover up all of their imperfections with makeup and other beauty products. The author is trying to teach the reader that you shouldn't cover up the imperfections but to focus on the perfections so that the imperfections are less noticeable. For example say you like your eyes but not your lips you would use eyeshadow to enhance and brighten up your eyes and wear a light/ nude lipstick to make your eyes more noticeable and lips less noticeable.
One thing that I learned was some of the worst things for your skin, some of these things include sun, smoking, and dehydration. Sun is bad for your skin because it dries the outer layer of your skin also if you are exposed to the sun to much throughout your life you can get diagnosed with Skin Cancer. Smoking can destroy the way your face looks because it makes wrinkles around the mouth and speeds up aging process of your skin. Lastly Dehydration is is not good for your skin is because skin is the bodies largest organ and you should drink plenty of water to keep it strong and healthy. I also learned the different types of vitamins, what they are good for and where you can find them. Two vitamins that I found interesting would have to be Vitamin D and Vitamin K. Vitamin D is used to combat dry skin and is important for the development of your teeth. You can find Vitamin D in the sunshine, by spending 10-15 minutes in the sun for one week, you can also find it in milk and any other dairy products. Vitamin K helps combat uner eye dark circles. You can find it in many vegetables such as kale, spinach, turnip greens, collared greens, Swiss chard, mustard greens, parsley, romaine, green leaf lettuce, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage.
There were a lot of things that I liked in this book, one thing that I liked where the pictures. The picture really helped by showing me the steps or how something is supposed to look. Another thing that I really liked about was how the author talked to the reader. For example she states "I hope you discover this too and that you use the information in this book to look and feel like your best version of you." I like this because I felt like we where having a conversation the whole time. I didn't really not like anything, I thought this was a great book and I found it very interesting.
I would recommend this book to any teenage girl who is new to makeup and beauty. I wouldn't recommend this book for boys or men because I don't think they would be very interested in beauty. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I am willing to read other books by Lauren Conrad.

Any of my friends could tell you I’m not a traditional girly girl. I rarely use makeup, and if I do, it’s mostly just stuff for acne or lipgloss or concealer. I don’t actively go seeking tips, but I will admit that that this book did tempt me with the combination of autobiographical narration AND beauty tips. However, I found that “Lauren Conrad Beauty” sorely lacked in terms of new material in the beauty tips department and I found myself reading it for the autobiographical bits that are included in each chapter instead. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the aim of the book. Still, if you’re looking for a good beginner’s beauty book, you can’t go too wrong with “Lauren Conrad Beauty”.

There are a few good tips in this book that I hadn’t even really been looking for, but that popped out at me. The presentation of the book asthetically was really good in this way – the highlights of each chapter were clearly presented in an easy to understand, step by step way, and I have to give the designers credit for that. Otherwise, I didn’t really find anything that I couldn’t have found in youtube/online video tutorials, other magazines or books. It’s all very basic, and would probably be really good for a young teenager to get them in the habit of keeping their skin healthy, if anything. But if you’re an older reader (like me), you’re not missing much here in the how-to department, whether it be in the hair, skin, or nails department.

Instead, what I found interesting were the bits of Conrad narrating her own life, from her childhood up until she hit the reality circuit and how her own look evolved inside all of that time, complete with embarrassing stories (I think the Gwen Stefani one was my favorite, to be honest) and photos. I do have to give it to her for being brave enough to submit those stories and old photos, as some of them were pretty bad. I enjoyed her narration the most out of all the things in this book, and her beginnings were interesting, especially as I’m very familiar with the whole South County (southern Orange County) look and mannerisms.

Still, this is going to great for a late tween or early teen, and will hopefully get them on the right path to eating well, treating themselves well, and taking care of themselves well in general. Which, face it, especially for American teens? Is a very badly needed thing. Anything that can get them started on the right path, I’m definitely for it.

But that’s just how I feel about it. You can pick up “Lauren Conrad Beauty” now from Harper in North America, so be sure to check it out when you get the chance!

I was absent and you told me this was due WED., so here it is
---------------------------------
I recently finished reading the Lauren Conrad Beauty book, it was written by her and some of her stylists (and friends) and the genre is 'Self Help' because it's beauty tips or biography because it was written by her.

The book is simply about beauty tips, hair, makeup, that's what the book is all about and it's in Lauren Conrad's perspective. She writes her personal tips and opinions that she has learned from her stylists and makeup artists. I read this book because I personally like finding ways to improve my look and I enjoy reading about girly-girl type things.

Two things I liked about this book were one, the tips, honestly the content of this book is really intriguing and it brings perspective to how you should be doing your daily routines. Not only did she explain makeup and hair tips she went above and beyond and gave you skin care advice, nail tutorials and more! The second thing I really liked about this book is the way it was set up it didn't just go crazy and put the chapters in random order, she put them in order as they should be prioritized (or done in the morning) in your life. Skin was first, then makeup, then hair, then nails she hinted it out the order of this without mentioning a word. One think I disliked about the book was the hair tutorials and the mention of people throughout the chapters. I disliked the hair tutorials because they were slightly vague, they were fine but didn't go into as much detail as I would've liked. I disliked the mention of her stylists and makeup artists in every chapter, don't get me wrong I would definitely give them a shout out every once and a while but every chapter about hair or makeup she would mentioned her hair and makeup artists, which kind of bothered me.

I would recommend this book to any girly-girl who is looking to improve her look or update it. It just gives you advice on skincare, hair & makeup lessons as well as nail stuff. So it pretty much goes over the basics to beauty and any girl who wants to work on her look would find this book very good!!

After the success of her book Style, New York Times bestselling author Lauren Conrad (who is, of course, also known for starring in MTV's Laguna Beach and The Hills as well as being the author of the L.A Candy series as well as The Fame Game books) has released Beauty (Harper Collins) a rather informative guide offering up various beauty tips and secrets from the stylish star.

I can see this latest venture quickly becoming a must-have beauty book for girls and women of all ages as it successfully breaks down - and shares - make up tricks for all skin tones, how to hair guides, diet and skincare insights and instructions on how to get Lauren's popular looks such as her winged eyeliner and long beachy waves which have quickly become her signature.
Step-by-step instructions litter this book with various models used throughout to highlight tips as well as sections devoted to health, fitness, stress and food as well as in depth make-up tutorials however what stood out to me the most was Lauren's constant referrals to the professionals behind her looks throughout the years and the credit she so duly - and freely - gives to them, thus never giving the impression that this project is all due to her own knowledge which is both surprising and refreshing as she writes,

"When I accidentally and unexpectedly stumbled into the entertainment industry, it came with one big perk: a beauty team. I would spend hours prior to each photo shoot and appearance in a cloud of hair spray and translucent powder only to emerge a new and improved me. Over the years I’ve worked with many talented makeup artists and hairstylists and have learned a lot from them … This book is an opportunity for me to share with you everything I’ve learned along the way.”

All in all the guide is clear, concise and easy to follow making it the perfect companion guide for beauty (and LC) lovers alike.

I really didn’t get as much out of Lauren Conrad Beauty as I hoped I would. The book is broken into two sections: Prep and Play (tutorials). While I found the Prep section to be somewhat helpful, the Play section wasn’t very interesting.

The prep section covers several sections: finding your beauty, skin, hair, stress, fitness and food. Finding your beauty is really more about self-confidence than anything. Find what works best for you, we’re all different, etc. The skin chapter wasn’t useful to me at all since I follow various skin care blogs and wasn’t introduced to anything new or useful in Lauren Conrad Beauty (p.s. if you’re looking for skin care advice, check out Caroline Hirons - I just love her blog). Hair care, stress, fitness and food had some interesting tid bits, but nothing life changing.

The play section is where things really fell to pieces for me. It contains several hair, makeup, and nail tutorials which were kind of interesting, but you can get a million tutorials with better instruction on YouTube for free. I just don’t understand why I’d pay money for a beauty book to give me step by step hair and makeup instructions when I can better ones online. On a brighter note, there was a chapter dedicated to the changing beauty trends throughout the last several decades that were actually interesting.

While the prep section contains some interesting information, there just isn’t enough of it to justify buying this book. If you’re really curious about it, I’d check it out from the library and see if you honestly think you’ll get some use out of it before making the investment.

In Lauren Conrad Beauty by Lauren Conrad the message that the author relayed is that beauty is an expression of who you were from all different stages and aspects of your life. We understand this message through multiple topics such as finding your beauty, skin and hair care, and beauty through the decades. Some important points that prove this message are when Lauren Conrad discusses how she found the style of makeup that suits her and from what decade she choose it from really gave me a different outlook on how to be unique. An important quote from the book is, “…finding your starting point, the essence of your basic look that you can return to again and again. Because playing dress-up is fun and can be helpful in evolving your style, but it’s also good to look in the mirror and recognize what you see” (Conrad 9). This stood out as an important quote because it means that when finding your beauty you should always be able to recognize yourself when you take a look in the mirror. Another quote that is important in supporting the message is, “The past century was filled with trailblazing women, who instead of following the trends, set their own. For each decade a handful of women evoke the times, and the beginning in the ‘20s, which was diffidently the start of a beauty culture…” (Conrad 251) This quote shows how beauty evolved into different styles which is really how beauty can be a self-expression because it’s unique to every individual. This novel is very interesting because there are tutorials on all different makeup and hair looks. Everyone is sure to find a look or style that suits them and learn how to do it. Although this is a fast read it was totally worth my time because I am very interested in this realm of topics and this thought how to have more individuality while expressing my self.
