Redemption Ridge #2

The Fortunate Son

Rate this book
Ivan Gallagher’s first and only attempt at love nearly cost him everything—his reputation, family, and even his freedom. Needing an outlet for his pent-up passion, the gruff foreman turns his beekeeping hobby into a successful business. Just when he’s on the verge of taking his liquid gold to the next level, a granted favor transforms his orderly life into a sticky mess.

Rory Snyder was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but wealth couldn’t spare him from loss and heartache. Finding himself at the center of a dangerous media storm, the social media influencer seeks refuge at Redemption Ridge. Too bad the Viking-sized Ivan seems impervious to Rory’s charms because he could use a sexy distraction from the chaos threatening to ruin his life.

Predawn collisions in the hallway lead to revelations, explorations, and something far sweeter than honey. Soon, living in the moment becomes living for the moment. But for how long? A future seems impossible for the humble foreman and the fortunate son until a common nemesis makes Ivan and Rory realize what they truly stand to lose.

The Fortunate Son is book two in the Redemption Ridge series. Though each story features a different couple, reading the series in order is essential. The Fortunate Son contains mature themes and is intended for adults.

Content homophobia, underage alcohol addiction, and intentional overdosing are briefly discussed in this book, though no graphic descriptions are used.

This is an absolutely gorgeous romance which doesn't have the same level of angst as book one but still keeps enough tension to stop things becoming mushy.

When Rory turns up in the Redemption Ridge kitchen he puts Ivan Gallagher off kilter for the first time in a long while. Ivan's used to being the stoic foreman and he's holding a huge amount of hurt from his time in jail, which relates directly to the first - and only - time he'd fallen in love

So there's no surprise when he goes out of his way to avoid Rory and everything the younger man represents. But, this is also an Aimee Nicole Walker romance, there's always more depth than it first appears and Rory's no exception.

He's the younger half-brother of FBI Special Agent Nick, ranch owner Cash's best friend, and he's brought him to try keep him out of the media storm being driven by Rory's father running for Governor.

Their first few encounters are all full of Rory's flirty innuendos and Ivan's brusk rebuttals but the more time they spend together working on the ranch, the more the walls come down and their obvious attraction becomes something too hot to ignore.

I absolutely loved how Aimee brought these two disparate men together, they're both so different in character but, ultimately at their core, they're in search of someone who loves them for who they are.

They've each dealt with past traumas and this isn't glazed over, they have proper conversations and talk through their fears, rather than bottling things up, and the narrative never becomes too heavy because of the found family at the ranch sticking their nebs in and taking the mickey!

The sexy times are as you'd expect from Aimee, smoking hot and emotionally charged and, as both men's walls come down, they find comfort in the smaller things, in just being together.

With the wider plot centred more on the weird religious cult that's been harassing the ranch, the pacing moves towards a confrontation with more than just the media and it worked perfectly as a means of creating the Third Act drama without affecting Ivan and Rory's relationship.

This series is shaping up to be a favourite of mine and I can't wait to see where Aimee goes next with it, there's at least two other pairings that I would love to find out more about!

Rory Snyder come to Redemption Ridge with his brother who is an FBI agent and friend of Cash’s, the owner. Rory needs to lay low for a while. He’s an influencer who is being hounded by the press about events of his past that are causing his father issues with a political campaign. He wants to be seen as just another guy, not a wealthy pampered social media guy. He says, "Treat me just like anybody else on the ranch".

Ivan, who we met in the first book, is the leader on the ranch. He’s not sure what to make of Rory. They are polar opposites in so many ways, but it’s clear that Rory is interested in him and attracted to him. Ivan isn’t ready to trust anyone and that includes Rory even though their chemistry is off the charts, and it doesn’t take long for them to begin to explore a relationship. They start out as "friends with benefits", but the more time they spend together, the more find they have in common.

Ivan is really a softie, and he’s a beekeeper and he also loves his cats. Soon he figures out that he also loves Rory. They both have baggage, and they each had had difficult relationships in the past that ended badly. Ivan’s issue led directly to his incarceration and a long estrangement with his family. It takes some time for them to be honest with each other about how these things have affected them. The ranch family supported them, and while they have obstacles to overcome, they were working toward something that could be lasting – even if it takes a little convincing.

I really enjoyed this story, but I have to admit that the pacing was a bit off for me. Like the last book, it took quite a while to get the story moving...then it was a bit of a rush to the end. Lance West did a fantastic job of presenting the story. Beautiful voice and so well done.

Not rating because I peaced out too soon. Nothing wrong with it exactly. Just didn't hold my attention. Or maybe I just wasn't in the mood for that type of story.

A Joyfully Jay review.

This is the second book in Aimee Nicole Walker’s Redemption Ridge series and, while some elements from the first book, as well as characters, show up here, this would work well as a standalone, so don’t be afraid to jump in here. I’ve been looking forward to this book since the teaser at the end of the first, and Walker didn’t disappoint.

The thing I enjoyed most was the way Ivan and Rory communicated throughout the story. It wasn’t always perfect, but misunderstandings never lasted long. Both MCs understood the other so well that they could see instantly when things went awry and fixed it as quickly as possible. I love the way these two talked and, maybe more importantly, how they listened.

I was a little bit bored by 70% because there was a lot of inner monologue from Ivan about how he wasn't deserving of someone loving him, and how his past has made believing in love difficult. I got it, I did, but at some point you need to grow the fuck up and not let your past define you.

I didn't like this as much as the first book, and I was a little disappointed at all the telling instead of showing and the waffling. The last 20% of the book were good, and they're why I gave it four stars. Except I would have liked to have seen the proposal that was dangled in front of us...

It took me longer than usual to read this one because RWRB left me hungover and unable to stop thinking about the movie, and because of lack of time.

If not for those reasons, this would have been an all-nighter for sure. It’s easy to read, fluffy and heartwarming.

Unlike the first book, this one is nearly dramaless. We have Ivan, who was jealous over Kieran during the first book, and Rory, Nick’s (Cash’s BF and obvious crush) little brother, who also happens to be the son of a politician.

Rory’s been on the spotlight for a while and that’s had bad consequences for him, and that’s what brings him to the ranch, so he can hide from a while from the press.
Rory’s and Ivan’s attraction is clear since the very beginning and it’s really funny how forward Rory is with the big, shy man. Their attraction builds until they cave in, and even though they try to go for the “casual” route, it’s obvious there’s something deep between them.

If you are not fond of quick romances, this won’t be a fav for you. I usually prefer slow romances, but there was something real between the two that made me like them.

I liked how the cult appeared again and how that plot evolves with each book, and can’t wait to see how the guys destroy those crazy fanatics.

Aside from the romance, we get to discover what took Ivan to prison and the consequences of what he did. Also, there’s the issue between Rory and his dad, and how the two got distanced when Rory’s mom passed.
Overall, if it was a hot and cute story about two different guys that fit and that find in each other the companion they need to love and experience new first.

I can’t wait to read about the other guys, Cash and Nick, Rueben and whoever he falls in love with, and of course Owen and Ty!!

sweet as honey

Loved it! “We’ll just get it out of system” -famous last words. The immediate sparks were flying around and I loved the gentle ribbing from their friends and family. It was so cute seeing Ivan with his cats, and Rory’s cooking was an unexpected and sweet surprise! My only wish is that we would’ve gotten a little more about the cult and Rory’s dad’s campaign, but I have a feeling we’ll be getting more cult later on! and Hope. She’s for sure a highlight of the series and her shenanigans are amazing. We all need a hope in our lives!

Ivan and Rory

I was really looking forward to Ivan's story when we met him in book 1. He's the stoic ranch manager that always seemed to have a skeptical eye on those he didn't know too well, but you just knew there was more beneath that gruff exterior. It doesn't take too long for Rory to arrive at the ranch and slowly break down Ivan's walls. I really liked both characters. Roy was so confident and energetic and kind. Ivan was a sweetheart deep down. The chemistry between them was smoking hot, and we are treated to many HAF scenes along the way. We also get more time with everyone on the ranch and their found family is really great! Unfortunately overall the book just moved too slow for me.  I needed more to happen and found it dragging for me too many times along the way. I am really interested in Nick and Cash's story next though as we are given a glimpse here into their friendship that might be more!

Love the way this series is going!

Aimee Nicole Walker can add another successful series to her resume as far as I am concerned, because the second book was just as good as the first, and the next one promises to be as good or better.
The instant attraction between these two guys led to plenty of heat, but also to a lovely romance blooming. The "dark moment" was handled perfectly, and I would totally check out the Redemption Ridge channel!

Rory & Ivan

I usually love Aimee Nicole Walker's stories but I'm rounding this one up from 3.5. It was a lot slower than book one and there were a few things as well as side characters that took away from the story for me. I'm still interested in reading more though.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

SCREAMS INTO THE ABYSS DEMANDING MORE TOUGH GUYS WHO TURN INTO SOFT BOYS AHHHHHHHH one chapter simultaneously had me sweating from the effectiveness of the spice and in actual literal tears on my face from the softness. We love, we stan, we pray this series continues past book three because I'm in love with the entire organization.

It takes all kinds!

Ivan, tall, well built and foreman of Redemption Ridge is definitely a leader not to be trifled with. Will the handsome Rory’s brattiness be a problem between them? Or is there something else going on between them? Enjoy their exciting, passionate and fast-paced tale!!!

Just need to read the end

Sex, sex and sex yawn! Most of the book bored me and no direction or point to the story, that is until the end. The end of this story contained everything the book should have offered. A chapter and a prologue summarized it all. The political side and their personal relationships. Ivan with his Mom and Rory with his Dad. The Ranch out witted the press and promoted the abilities in the best possible light. I am very disappointed when an Author has to resort to sex like it makes a good story line instead of creating an actual story with teeth. A story with possibilities and creativity.

I pre-ordered this, and I hate to say, for a book I had to wait months for this wasn’t exactly worth the wait. Certainly not worth the $5.99. I think for me it was the fact that Rory’s issues weren’t fully explained, or just not explained well. His mom died, his dad withdrew into himself, and Rory started drinking. Okay, and? There’s no mention of a string of men all across the tri-county area, or trashed hotel rooms, or totaled cars. The book just kept saying his dad was running for office and the media kept splashing salacious stories about him. Doing what??? And something about some random guy attacking Rory verbally, and actually chasing him down in his car…for what? Did he just see Rory in public and just decide, “he must be gay, let me harass him”.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Rory & Ivan, but there was more explanation for why Ivan had been in jail than for anything related to Rory. And for pete's sake, why was there so much talk about Harry and Dylan? I wanted them to get together but not to the point of having a third of the book about them.

good read

I liked the story and I liked how both MCs worked through their family issues. I only wished the book didn’t stall much in the middle. There was not much of plot development until last third of the book other than they having sex every minute of the day, since they couldn’t look at the each other without being aroused. I wanted to see more of the repercussions about the zealot who tried to kick a dog in the media. I wanted to see the guy who leaked the info be caught and charged. And more importantly, wanted to see what had happened to Nick. There could be also some editing. In several pages, the character’s names were mentioned too many times. In several occasions I counted “Nick” at least 7 or 8 times in one single page. There are ways to rephrase sentences without using the names over and over.

The Fortunate Son is book two in the Redemption Ridge series and while it can be read as a standalone, you should read the series in order for maximum enjoyment.

Rory was so different from what I expected at first. He fit into the Redemption Ridge family as if he'd been living there his whole life. Ivan was a surprise as well. He was very gruff and while attracted to Rory, he didn't think it would amount to more than a fling. Turned out that Rory was just perfect for Ivan, they had amazing chemistry and were super hot together, but more than that, he just seemed to belong among Ivan's found family.

This was a very intriguing story with a steamy romance that I can't recommend enough. I loved everyone at Redemption Ridge and I'm looking forward to Cash and Nick's story.

Loved the book! Loved Ivan and Rory!! At the beginning I was laughing at Rory, he was something else and so cocky , but that changes quickly. He and Ivan couldn’t keep their eyes off each other and when Ivan finally gives in, they’re so good together. It was supposed to be no strings attached sex,but of course the longer you do it the closer you become. So the book is steamy and sweet, heartfelt, heartwarming, witty and there’s some mean people in between but the book was an amazing read ending in a happy for now. Can’t Wait for Cash’s book in October!!!

This author is usually one of my favorites and I was extremely disappointed in this book. It was like slugging through concrete. I tried restarting several times and just finally decided to finish it. Evan was an intriguing character but Rory was never really explained. I was wanting more and just wasn’t getting it. This story didn’t grab ahold of me the way I expected it to. I’m hoping the next story does.

When Rory gets caught up in a scandal in the midst of his father's ongoing campaign, bringing unwanted attention and chaos, his brother Nick calls in a favor with his best friend Cash, who runs Redemption Ranch, in order to help Rory get away from the city and lie low while things cool down.

Cash reaches out to Ivan, the foreman of the ranch, to help Rory settle in and see where his skills would be best put to use while he stays there. Rory's situation hits a little too close to home for Ivan, and he's initially reluctant to be a part of this arrangement but complies when Cash talks him into it.

There is an immediate attraction between the two, but they toe around it for a while, with Rory unable to stop himself from flirting with Ivan and Ivan unwilling to get things complicated with anyone working on the ranch. However, the two slowly start forming a bond while working on the ranch and with Rory helping Ivan prep for an interview for his business. With all this growing attraction and sexual tension between them, they decide to get into a no strings attached relationship for the course of Rory's stay.

Ivan came to Redemption Ranch about 6 years ago after he was released from jail. Studying bees was something he had taken to during his time in jail, which was therapeutic for him, and he built on it after coming to the ranch by slowly setting up his business over the years with Cash's help. His past experience had made him shut out the world, and he was uncomfortable with letting anyone know his personal business. Learning about the environment he had grown up in and the way he loathed himself at such a young age for being gay was so heartbreaking, knowing how alone and confused he was.

Rory on the outside seemed like he had everything. Coming from a family as rich as his meant he'd want for nothing. But he still struggles with the grief of losing his mother and the fallout with his father after, as they both processed and reacted to the loss in their own way. Which also led to him veering down a dark path for a while. When he initially comes to the ranch, he feels like Ivan could be the perfect distraction during this messy time since he wasn't looking for anything too serious given how the last person he trusted had let him down.

I liked how their relationship progressed from the initial flirting to them trying to keep their distance from each other and failing. Their late-night conversations and confessions lead to them connecting on a much deeper level than either was ready for, but they can't seem to stop themselves. The feeling of rightness when they are together makes them want more than the limited time they have.

Ivan's past and Rory's current situation had quite a few similarities, which was another thing that got them closer. I loved how the two opened up about their struggles with their respective pasts and also helped the other overcome certain beliefs that they had instilled about themselves. So many heartfelt moments that make you feel so good and happy that these two found their way to each other. The spice was definitely good, and I enjoyed it a lot. Rory finally felt like someone liked him for him and not what he could do for them or the connections he could get them. For Ivan, whose last relationship ended on such a bad note and left him with so many issues, Rory's patience allowed him to reflect on his past and finally open up to the idea of wanting more for himself.

Given their pasts, people were wary of Rory when he first arrived on Redemption Ranch, but Rory worked really hard to show everyone that he wasn't some spoilt rich kid who couldn't handle the ranch work, and he gradually fit in with the rest of the team. I especially loved how his bond grew with Harry.

The people on the ranch were truly family, and that was so heartwarming. I loved how these people gave Ivan and Rory so much shit for the way they were trying to be sneaky, but they also stood by them and were so happy when the two finally openly accepted their feelings.

I loved Hope just as much as I had in book one, and her antics made me laugh so hard. She was so supportive, funny, and a lively character that you can't help but adore. I also loved watching Harry and Dylan get together after all that reluctance in Book 1.

The thing I had an issue with is that Rory's situation wasn't clear, and I didn't know what had happened to result in there being a scandal in the first place. What led to the altercation with the man that forced Rory to leave the city and lay low in the first place? How did it turn so huge? Who had he trusted and been betrayed by since it was mentioned that he got into this mess because he trusted the wrong person, but we don't know what actually happened?

That epilogue has me excited for Nick and Cash's story.

This is the second book in the series, and you do need to read them in order due to a continuing storyline. The first book was a miss for me, but I seriously LOVED this book. Ivan and Rory just melted my heart! We met Ivan in book one and I couldn't wait for his story, so I'm glad he was next! Rory is at the ranch for a different reason than most, he's there to lay low. When Ivan and Rory see each other the first time, you could feel the sparks instantly! Rory hit it off with resident chef Harry too. My favorite character from the first book, Hope, of course is in this one too and she is as amazing as ever. Add in three adorable kittens, lots of steamy, spicy time, and a relationship that wasn't supposed to happen, blossoms right before our eyes. I was swooning the whole time! Rory and Ivan are amazeballs together and Rory is a great addition to Redemption Ridge. I can't wait to see whose book is next!

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the second book in the Redemption Ridge series and starts just where we left off – so if you haven't read the first book yet, I highly recommend that you do!

Just as everyone is celebrating Kieran's exoneration, Cash's 'friend' Nick turns up with his half-brother, Rory, in tow. Rory's father is a politician up for election and Rory's sexuality is causing him problems – and there is a real threat to his safety. Nick brings him to Redemption Ridge as a safe haven for now. Foreman Ivan sees Rory and is utterly smitten by the gorgeous man, completely unaware that he too has attracted Rory's interest.

I loved watching these two guys fight the chemistry between them, dig deep into their belief that it cannot be real or lasting, and yet find themselves utterly intertwined in their lives together within days. It is such fun watching them be teased by the rest of the crew, but also supported by them. Holly and her wonderful mum, Hope, are once again key characters in this book – soothing, supporting, and engaging both Rory and Ivan as they travel a path neither of them had ever considered in their futures. The honey business is an added bonus in this book – my imagination ran wild over the description of the bees' enclosure.

Lots going on, including more of the local cult causing issues, and although less animals than in Finley and Kieran's book, still plenty to ahhh over, especially Ivan's super cute trio of cats!

I am already looking forward to the next installment!

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆
THE FORTUNATE SON is the second book in the Redemption Ridge series. This picks up right where we ended with GUYS LIKE HIM, with Finley and Kieran, so you should read that one first to get the full effect of this story.

When Nick shows up at Redemption Ridge asking his friend Cash for a favor, Cash knows he can't turn his friend away. The favor – keeping his brother, Rory, safe and hidden at the ranch away from the paparazzi and public. Ivan, the ranch foreman, and Rory have an instant attraction and chemistry; one Ivan is trying to ignore but Rory makes it all but impossible.

The chemistry grew between them until it ultimately exploded in the best possible way. I loved seeing these two finally giving in and being together. Ivan's walls he built high, were slowly breaking down in those midnight confessions, while Rory was allowed to just be himself. They came together in the sweetest of ways.

I loved these characters and can't wait for more from this series!

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

The Fortunate Son is the second book in Aimee Nicole Walker’s Redemption Ridge series. Ivan Gallagher is living out his dream as foreman of Redemption Ridge and beekeeper of the thriving Rocky Mountain Liquid Gold company. Although he may be lonely at times he finds himself happy with his found family on the ranch. When Rory Snyder is dropped at the ranch and told to stay under the radar Ivan is faced with someone who never expected. Rory is immediately drawn to Ivan but wants to prove his worth outside of his family’s wealth and notoriety. The two try to keep things just physical but with late night confessions and intimacy they’ve never experienced before the two men are faced with an uncertain future.

Ivan Gallagher is a secret giant ginger sweetheart. He has a difficult time trusting Rory after his very forward advances on their first encounter. He thinks it will be easier to keep things just physical but that is blown to pieces as the pair start sharing firsts together. I loved seeing the high heat of the bedroom come down to a simmer where they shared secrets and allowed each other to just feel. Ivan being a protective bear over not just his bees but Rory was adorable.

Except you, Ivan. You’re just for me.

Rory Snyder refuses to be just a spoiled man dropped onto his brother’s best friend for protection. He wants to prove his worth on the ranch and finds his passion in the kitchen with Harry. Rory has avoided diving deep into his feelings after losing his mother and in a way his father. Ivan helps him open up and acknowledge the feelings that have been suppressed for so long. Rory may have pursued Ivan first but the fire burning between them is mutual as the two light up the sheets and some other places ;-)

Leaning into his caress like a kitten, Rory said. “You know this spells trouble, right?”
Ivan slid his hand back to palm Rory’s head and bring him closer. “Big trouble,” he whispered against Rory’s lips.

This is an emotional read as both Ivan and Rory find themselves learning a lot about themselves as well as each other. The two are so afraid to look towards a future with both their paths being so different. I loved the found family on Redemption Ridge being there not just for Ivan but for Rory as well. Cash has provided a landing pad for so many at his ranch and now I can’t wait for him to find his HEA.

4.5 stars for Rory and Ivan learning to love themselves as much as each other.

excellent storytelling, love the characters

Rating: 4.5🌈

After leaving the deep south of Savannah for the mountains of Colorado, author Aimee Nicole Walker’s brings us her book two in her series about a ranch offering redemption and a second chances .

In The Fortunate Son , Walker introduces Rory Snyder, son of a politician running for governor, who’s in need of sanctuary and a place to renew himself. That his first impression of himself is less than stellar has its roots inside a troubled family relationship and self image.

Rory is a complicated character, one that starts out with one persona then consistently reveals his real identity and true personality as his interactions within the ranch, particularly those with Ivan Gallagher , allow trust and growth. And love.

Ivan Gallagher is a lovely character, a resident of Redemption Ranch we’ve met before. Now we get in-depth Ivan as well as additional ranch stories, like those from Harry and Dylan , which will help light the way towards happiness for our main couple.

Ivan’s redemption includes learning to let go of his past and reconnecting with his family. This is a believable and important element. It inspires a similar one to happen with another person. Both moments are very different yet emotional and powerful.

As always with Walker there so many great scenes and intriguing side storylines. Most swirl around Ivan. His three cats are amazing. Yes, I’m a sucker for wonderful animals in a story, especially if they’re layered in and realistic, as they are here. Brava.

Also the honey and beekeeper aspect to Ivan’s personality. It’s his passion. My only wish is that it had been more fully integrated as regards to the actual work, the bees themselves. Much is made of an incoming new queen bee but that scenario vanishes. Then a tour for Rory is given of Ivan’s honeyland but instead of bees we get a feeling of a weird gnome garden. It’s a missed narrative opportunity , one that rarely happens with this author.

The romance between Ivan and Rory ends up encompassing everyone on the ranch and it’s a found family celebration of warmth, acceptance, and love full of friendship, hilarity, support and deep emotions.

I really love this series and book. Next up is the founding head of the ranch and Rory’s brother, Nick. Should be fabulous. I can’t wait.

I’m highly recommending this but read the entire series in the order they are written.

There's something so special about Redemption Ridge, and every time I get to come back to it I fall deeper in love with everyone who lives and works there. This book focused on Ivan's romance with Rory, and boy was it a steamy, sweet, and emotional journey that felt so satisfying to read. Neither man was looking for something serious at the start, but they had that magnetic kind of chemistry that just wouldn't let go regardless of their initial intentions. I honestly thought Rory was nothing more than a shameless flirt after those first couple of days he spent on the ranch, but he really opened up over the course of the story and that changed the way I saw him. Both he and Ivan had scars from their pasts that made them hesitant to jump into a serious relationship, and that only made it feel more special to see their boundaries shifting and melting away as they spent more and more time together. They had sparks--my god did they have sparks--but it was the late night confessions and days spent hanging out together that really sold me on their love. Rory and Ivan slid into love so easily, without even realizing it, and their natural connection only strengthened over time as they began opening up about their pasts more until they (and me) were head over heels with no plans of ever walking away from each other.

The romance alone was enough to make this book a standout, but Ivan and Rory's story had even more to love. I could start with the side characters on the ranch like Dylan, Harry, Cash, and Hope, because every single one of them brought personality and life into the spaces around the romantic relationship and made the overall story feel much more well-rounded. Or I could dive into the deeply personal character development both Rory and Ivan experienced, culminating in some seriously emotional heart-to-hearts with loved ones that brought tears to my eyes. And then there was also daily life on the ranch, poker nights, shared meals, and yoga classes to make these men feel like part of the community and establish how warm and inviting all of Redemption Ridge could be for those who were willing to give it a chance. Every single element was thoughtfully crafted and added to my overall enjoyment of the story, and now that I've reached the ending all I can think about is when the next book is coming out so I can dive back into this world again.

4.5*s

I’ve chosen a lot of low angst stories lately, which just means that they are meant for a certain reader (or at least a reader in a certain mood). But readers who read Guys Like Him won’t be surprised and, like the first book, there’s a lot more than just the mains involved. There are some complaints about that in reviews and I think that maybe we get used to connected but stand alone series, which this isn’t. Instead these are interconnected stories that focus on particular people in each book, but don’t end on a cliffhanger for the main two characters. Like the fact that there isn’t a lot of drama, I think that this means it won’t appeal to everyone. Personally, I loved getting attached to all the characters, not just the mains – I want all of them to be happy and content and finding the HEA they need. I’m look forward to seeing more of them, even if they have to share a book.

Here, though, we focus on Ivan (who I think pretty much everyone wanted to get to know better), a strong but silent type that just begs to be ruffled and whose secrets need to be exposed. His history just tugged at the heart strings and made him even more likable as a character. He’s obviously a nurturer who cares deeply but who’s also been hurt badly, and we see that even more so here.

Rory is the opposite of Ivan and the perfect match for him. He’s more in your face, sassy and vibrant. From the moment they meet, and Rory challenges him with his cheek, you just know they are going to be a hoot together. And he doesn’t disappoint.

Funny and steamy and emotional and fun, The Fortunate Son is an entertaining read. From the way Rory and Ivan make amends with their families to their obviously going to fail attempt at keeping things short-term, I adored their story. They have their struggles but when together they are so open, caring, and just absolutely loving that it made my heart melt. And I can’t forget the rest of the characters – I loved seeing more of the others on the ranch (especially Dylan and Harry), but as always Hope stole the show and a little more of my heart. I can’t wait to see what is coming in book 3 because there are more guys that need their story told.

"Kindness shouldn't be a rare occurrence."

I thought that was an apt quote from the book to start my review with. It truly encompasses the way the found family on Redemption Ridge operates. I adore each and every one of the men who call the ranch their home. Ivan really put it in prospective when he explained the feeling of arriving on the ranch after incarceration and having his pick of clothes offered by Cash. Something we take for granted sometimes, the simple ability to OWN our own clothes, was monumental to him. It broke my heart. I can understand why Ivan was leery about new people disrupting the vibe of their sanctuary, it just turned out it wasn't needed when it came to Rory.

Right from the start these two men only had eyes for each other. Ivan fought it so hard. Rory, the cheeky little man he was, was undeterred by the grumpy giant. When these two finally gave into their lust it was explosive. It was also absolutely sweet as heck. I didn't realize what a softie Ivan was hiding under that gruff exterior. It's always the quiet ones who surprise you. And Rory. I wondered if he was going to be the spoiled brat type but I was way off base. He worked hard on the ranch and never asked for special treatment. He genuinely earned the trust of the men who worked beside him with his efforts. It's no wonder Ivan couldn't stop the inevitable, falling for the likeable man. Thankfully, Rory was in just as deep as Ivan.

"I'm going to keep you."

"Not if I keep you first."

Now I am absolutely thrilled that Cash's story is next! I thought we'd have to wait a bit more for his book and that Walker would save him for last. I'm now hoping that isn't the case because I really want a book for sweet Rue. And also of course Owen and Tyler, who it appears are following the route that Harry and Dylan took aka the oblivious one. I am so here for it!

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second book in the Redemption Ridge series and starts just where we left off - so if you haven't read the first book yet, I highly recommend that you do!

Just as everyone is celebrating Kieran's exoneration, Cash's 'friend' Nick turns up with his half brother Rory in tow. Rory's father is a politician up for election and Rory's sexuality is causing him problems - and there is a real threat to his safety. Nick brings him to RR as a safe haven for now.

Holly and her wonderful Mum, Hope are once again key characters in this book - soothing, supporting and engaging both Rory and Ivan as they travel a path neither of them had ever considered in their futures. The honey business is an added bonus in this book - my imagination ran wild over the description of the bees' enclosure.

Lots going on - including more of the local cult causing issues, and although less animals than in Finley and Kieran's book, still plenty to ahhh over, especially Ivan's super cute trio of cats!

I am already looking forward to the next installment!

Aimee Nicole Walker, thank you so much for writing such a beautiful story.

I have enjoyed your writing for over five years now. I always thought your stories revealed such lovely empathy and compassion for the characters and their individual dramas. Your stories are warm, lessons learned kind of fiction, perfectly suited for long.leisurely readings in a comfy recliner or sofa, yet every character is full of life, love, passion, and find their answers in your masterful tales full of problems, controversy, and satisfying solutions. Rory is an absolutely mouthwatering, adorable package of talent, wicked humor, and tantalizing depths, and Ivan? Very large man, with well defined, bulging ...uhm - muscles. Yep, biceps, triceps, thighs, beard. Yowza!

Rory and Ivan both met.their match the day time stood still at their first meeting and.glimpse of each other at Redemption Ridge. For the first time, Rory feels out of his depth whenever he meets Ivan's intense gaze. Ivan is in no better condition, though he hides behind his routine and.rigid self control. I loved their story - aside from one downer, in the form of Ivan's ex who apparently left Ivan or some drama like that, just ghosting him. I don't understand when the wronged person doesn't get angry, and get his closure by saying what he always wanted to say t the jerk. Because he was an a$$, the way his husband didn't know all the fact, such as how much of a coward he is. Anyway, good for Ivan for not caring, I guess.

Also, I must comment on how your cover model is spot on with the written description - icy blue eyes that still manage to look heated, and wickedly beautiful. Perfect cover. Five stars.

The latest in Walker's Redemption Ridge continues to give us wonderful stories of redemption surrounded by found family, probably my favorite troupe. Son picks up from the epilogue of Guys Like Him. In fact, it's the epilogue but told from Ivan's, our cranky foreman, POV. We meet again Rory, Nick's brother, who needs somewhere to hide due to media storm. The sparks fly immediately but Ivan is not having it. But how can he deny the way Rory makes him feel and Rory's feelings for him. So when they decided to "just once to get it out of our system", those sparks become an inferno and two MC's realize there's way more going than "no strings"! They both need healing, walls broken down, things that have not dealt with. There's wonderful communication throughout. Even with the Rory's media storm and the cult's shenanigans, I would consider this low angst. There's a gentleness, a sweetness to their relationship, kind of like honey! The media storm/cult problem is almost minor to the their romance and is dealt with in one chapter, not dragging out. Along the way, we get peeks of Kieran and Finley, Dylan and Harry (yes!), oblivious Tyler and Owen. Hope saves the day, I would so buy out her shop. Based on the epilogue, Cash's story is next, but we need Rue to get an HEA.

So why not five stars...I found the ending to be just too abrupt, almost like our boys needed another chapter before the epilogue. Oh, and this can totally be read as a standalone. ANW does a great job of setting up the story, the world!

Book two of the Redemption Ridge series did not disappoint. The first story was a delight, and I urge you to read this if you haven’t already. This book works as a standalone, but there are so many amazing people to meet that live in Redemption Ridge.

Ivan is a formidable, Viking-like foreman who runs things with a firm hand but is a fair man. Most of the employed are ex-cons that owner Cash has given a second chance. The men that work here are fiercely protective of their jobs and each other.

Rory is an influencer that is very successful. He was recently targeted in a homophobic attack, and his brother, who is friends with the owner, thought some downtime would be a good idea and get the unwanted attention off him. Rory’s dad is running for Governor, making Rory a target.

At first, everyone at the ranch had a huge misconception about Rory. Ivan especially thought Rory was a coddled lightweight. I loved the dynamics between the two men and how opinions started to change throughout the ranch.

There are serious problems in their town, which were introduced in book one. As Rory and Ivan get closer, they work together to keep both the ranch and the town safe.

This was a sweet and spicy romantic tale, and I highly recommend it. I am looking forward to Cash’s story. Happy Reading!
