A great list of books (for those of us who like lists and books) assembled to teach kids about people of different backgrounds. It includes a great deal of historical fiction, books about other cultures, and books about different social classes. These are books to encourage kids to look outside themselves. It should really be titled Books for Kids to Grow On. Good summaries, ideas for discussion and activity suggestions. Well-written approach to sharing the reading experience with young girls (with the added benefit of gaining insight into their thoughts and life). This inspiring book encourages parents to use fiction as a way to open lines of communication with our daughters. Implicit in this reading list is the idea that we underestimate our children. Ms. Dodson asserts that reading and discussing books that explore various "issues" is a great way to guide young girls without lecturing.

A must have for moms and girls who love to read together. The list is full of all different kinds of books that the girls and moms in our book club have really loved.
