About the author

Franklin Patrick Herbert Jr. was an American science fiction author best known for the 1965 novel Dune and its five sequels. Though he became famous for his novels, he also wrote short stories and worked as a newspaper journalist, photographer, book reviewer, ecological consultant, and lecturer.
The Dune saga, set in the distant future, and taking place over millennia, explores complex themes, such as the long-term survival of the human species, human evolution, planetary science and ecology, and the intersection of religion, politics, economics and power in a future where humanity has long since developed interstellar travel and settled many thousands of worlds. Dune is the best-selling science fiction novel of all time, and the entire series is considered to be among the classics of the genre.

The Dune books have always been one of my favorite series ever and this was amazing chance to hear Frank Herbert read selected passages in his own way. It makes me want go back and read them all again.

Frank isn't a natural orator, but it's still a delight to hear excerpts from his books read by the author himself, his passion for the world he created shines through as he highlights what he considers to be the important moments in his characters story.

Very nice to be able to listen to excerpts of Herbert’s Dune novels read by the author himself. The recording seems a little sped up for some reason. It sounds a little better and more natural when played at about 0.8x speed. I’m guessing the recordings were sped up originally to fit on LP records, which was their original release format.

This was snipettes of the first three Dune books. It was not really a coherent story or storyline.

Interesting to hear the author himself read some of the scenes. I didn’t know what i was getting with this, but it was decent. It’s nice to relive key moments, and his own touch on reading was great.

It’s for super fans. The production is pretty low quality, and Herbert is a much better story writer than he is a voice actor.

Definitely a must-listen audiobook for anyone who loves the Dune universe. It's intriguing to hear the author himself read some of the best excerpts from the first few novels. The best of all is his reading of the banquet scene from Dune. The only real bummer is that Herbert does indeed pronounce Atreides like "ah-tray-ah-dees".

This was the only audiobook available by Herbert. I was curious about the Dune series as the film was released based on these novels including film stars I admire. The novels seem appealing, based on futuristic tribes struggling with desert existence and philosophy of their tribes and history.
Sadly, I'm not sure it's for me, but well written...

5 stars for getting me into Dune. But the collection essentially grabs exerts from 3 volumes of Dune to put in a short collection and the story is choppy at best and down right confusing at times.
