In Off-Duty Angel (Otherworld #10.6),
dark witch and half-demon Eve Levine is desperate for a little entertainment while her lover, Kristof Nast, is detained in afterlife court—enough to volunteer an extra week’s worth of angel corps duty just to pass the time. Luckily something even better comes up: a real celestial bounty-hunter mission to trail a shaman, someone who might prove to be a useful lead in Kristof’s court case. Following the target goes smoothly, until he leads Eve to the British Museum, where she inadvertently steps into a secret dimensional passage and stumbles upon a far more enticing puzzle . . . and a much greater danger.

This collection also includes Stalked (Otherworld #7.3), previously printed in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon.
It’s not a good sign when Elena Michaels and Clayton Danvers resort to everyday activities on their long-awaited honeymoon in St. Louis. But their encroaching boredom is about to take a backseat to an unexpected threat that catches Clay’s attention. A non-pack werewolf is clearly stalking them—out to claim Elena for himself—and Clay has no intention of letting the upstart mutt spoil their romantic getaway, even if that means deceiving Elena as he pursues the rival werewolf on his own.

Includes an exclusive early look at the first seven chapters of Thirteen, the Otherworld series finale coming July 24, 2012.

Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.

Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.

When I requested this ebook on NetGalley, I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting, there was no description of the content. But it's Kelley Armstrong and the cover says two Otherworld stories. So, naturally, I assumed there would be two completely new Otherworld stories named The Hunter and The Hunted. Yeah, I was wrong.

This e-special consists of:

1) Short story Stalked (about 20 pages) previously published in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. As a proper series fan, of course, I have already read it. It is the weakest of Clayton-narrated shorts, which takes place during Elena and Clay's honeymoon. Clayton discovers that they are being stalked by a rogue mutt and tries to take care of him without Elena's knowledge. There is nothing particularly special about this story. Just Elena and Clay's usual hi-jinks - changing, running and hunting. No twists, no turns, no mystery. It's a throwaway short story, and I would recommend reading Savage and Ascension in Men of the Otherworld and Beginnings in Tales of the Otherworld instead, if you want some juicy stories narrated by Clayton.

2) Short story Off-Duty Angel (also about 20 pages), completely new and narrated by Eve Levine. It was nice to revisit Eve. She is on a break from her angel duties and her man Kristof Nast recruits her to help him investigate the case he is currently working on. Generally, I like Armstrong's version of afterlife, it's kind of different and fun. As far as the mystery in this short goes, it is just so-so, unfortunately. It gets messy and convoluted in the end. It feels like Kelley had to cut it short.

3) First 6 chapters of the final book in the series - Thirteen. I did not read these chapters, because what would I do after finishing them? The book will be out in July!

All in all, The Hunter and The Hunted is an ok teaser, a reminder of Armstrong's writing. However, the pieces are not bound by any common theme and they are not connected to the final novel, so in the end this mesh-up is rather pointless. The stories are no more than 2-3 stars worth. Are they worth $1.99 on Amazon? Maybe.

Disclaimer: Received an ARC via Netgalley.

I would love to say that I have been a fan of Armstrong’s Otherworld series since the beginning. Sadly, however, that wouldn’t be true. I started reading the series with the books that introduced Paige and the other witches. I quickly become a fan and brought the other books. While I’m sad to see the series end, I am happy that Armstrong has enough sense to end it and resist the temptation to keep writing the series simply to make money. In some ways, Armstrong’s series belongs to the vast amount of “tough woman” urban fantasy; however, the Otherworld series stands out for several good reasons, and the series will be sorely missed. One of the best things about the series is Armstrong’s use of a different heroine every two or three books. Not only are the women different in terms of power, but they are different in terms of strength. Elena’s physical strength is matched by Paige’s strength of character and magical skill. Jamie’s ability to communicate with the dead takes a third type of strength, but she isn’t any less brave or any less of woman because she isn’t as physically strong or able to make fireworks. In a genre where the central character usually has a power and use of gun, it’s wonderful to see a series where the characters are different but equal. Another wonderful thing about the series is the fact that Armstrong ages her characters and ages them from book to book. Readers have seen Clay and Elena become parents; Paige and Lucas marry among other developments. Lastly, Armstrong has gone has a writer, and she is not afraid to experiment. It’s nice to see an author grow over the course of a series. In short, the Women of the Otherworld series is a cut above the rest of the genre.
This slim eBook contains two stories of the Otherworld as well as the first few chapters of Thirteen, the last book. The teaser chapters do their job well and if Thirteen delivers on their promise, it should be a good ending to a good series.

The first short story, “Stalked” appeared in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. This is quite clear from the start, so the eBook is NOT guilty of false advertising. It is always nice to read a story told from Clay’s point of view, especially when it features both Clay and Elena. What makes Clay such a good narrator is that he knows who he is and doesn’t care what you think about that? Instead of coming off as rude and mean, he comes off as rude but with reason and with a strong streak of humanity (though he wouldn’t like to be described thus). This is because he knows he isn’t perfect. He accepts his imperfections and deals with it. He doesn’t make an excuse. This stops him from being a “Marty Sue” or a “Macho Sue”. This story is no different, and are about two people trying to have a normal honeymoon. Of course, Armstrong being Armstrong she takes a simply concept that has been done to death by Lifetime the Channel of Women in danger and turns it on its head. Particularly refreshing is to read a story where husband wife are truly partners and truly in love, not the lust that seems so come in many books today. Yes, Elena and Clay lust for each other, but they love each other. Instead of telling this ad nausea and making the reader want to throw up because of the cuteness of it, Armstrong shows us and brings out a mature and loving relationship. It is also nice to see a married couple be active in a story that doesn’t involve one of them cheating on the other or having to hide from the mob. There’s tension, but not because the relationship is at risk.

The second story, “Off-Duty Angel” features everyone’s favorite demonic angel (or angelic demon) Eve who hasn’t given up working just because she’s dead. Like “Stalked”, the story does feature a couple that cares about and truly knows each other. There is less love and more action in this story than in the first (which features equal amounts of love and action). Armstrong takes a standard quest story and adds elements that make it funny as well as an interesting read.
Combining religion, Japanese myth, and Eve’s force of personality could make a mess of a story, but all parts are treated with respect. The human is more in the characterization not only of Eve, Kristof, and Trisel, but in the Fates and other creatures that they run into. I always thought moles were cute in a blind and furry way. Armstrong has made me rethink that conclusion.

In short, with these two short stories, Armstrong showcase what makes her series great – believable relationships, different types of strength, different types of people, and a sense of humor

2 very short stories and a preview of Thirteen

Stalked
Clay and Elena are my all-time favorite alpha werewolf couple. In fact, they were my very first alpha werewolf pair. Since my first encounter with Clay and Elena, I’ve wanted MORE! I’ve gone on to read many wonderful urban fantasy series because of these two, but I’ll always jump at the chance to read a story about Clay and Elena.

Stalked is narrated from Clay’s point of view which is a treat in itself. His personality and his devotion to his mate Elena shines in this short story. Clay has gone through all sorts of planning to create the perfect honeymoon for Elena. For those familiar with the series, any sort of honeymoon was delayed because Clay bit Elena and forced her to become a werewolf and Elena has a long memory. Clay takes Elena on a honeymoon to St. Louis. He senses that Elena might be a little bored. Boredom doesn’t last too long when you are an alpha werewolf married to the only female werewolf. A mutt is stalking Elena. What follows is an exciting chase through St. Louis.

This is a really short story (22 pages) and it has already appeared in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. 3.5/5 stars.

Off Duty Angel
I’ve never really liked Eve. Perhaps it’s because I never got her connection to the series. She is dead, well sort of. Off Duty Angel gave me a whole new side of Eve to love and I was impressed. Poor Eve! She and Kristof are so busy in their Afterlife commitments that they rarely get time to see each other. Kristoff gives Eve an assignment to help him with a case and to keep her busy. Leave it to Eve to find a real purpose to the mission. Eve and Trsiel are taken through many scary dimensions of hell. Fascinating!

Once again, this is a very short story – 24 pages. It’s a great introduction to Ms. Armstrong’s new and sadly, the last book in her Women of the Otherworld series Thirteen. 4/5 stars.

Preview of Thirteen
The first six chapters of Thirteen are included in this ebook. From what I’ve read of Thirteen it looks to be full of scary moments, blood, and carnage! Very exciting. I can’t wait to get my hands on that book on July 24.

The Hunter and the Hunted is quite short – 101 pages in total. The only new story is Eve’s Off Duty Angel. If you can’t wait to start reading Thirteen, then go ahead and order this book. I’m not sure I would recommend buying this book for just one very short story.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy of this book.

MY REVIEW
I think the cover best represents Stalked with the image of the wolf in the trees. Stalked is actually the first novella in this e-special. As a Kelley Armstrong fan I love anything at all with Clay and Elena in it. Even though I have read this novella before within My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon.
Both Clay and Elena are on top form having their honeymoon both desperate to keep the other happy and not admit to being bored in St Louis. Everything is getting very boring for them until a stray mutt starts literally sniffing around, challenging Clay? Sniffing round Elena? You need to read the novella to find out. I will say it is classic Clay & Elena and I doubt you will be disappointed!

The second novella in this e-special is Off-Duty Angel which feature Eve Levine and Kristoff Nast. Eve is bored as she is "Off-Duty" and Kristoff is hard at work at court. After trying to do a bargain with the fates doesn't work as she wishes Eve sets off trying to help Karl with a mystery involving his present case. Is Eve on the right case? Is it a set up? Or has Eve stumbled upon something bigger than she can Eve suspect? Again this one is totally Eve, in like a bull in a china shop wanting to sort everything and everybody out. I love the character of Eve too and feel she wasn't seen enough in the Women Of the Otherworld Series as much as I would have liked so this novella was a bonus for me.

This e-special also contains an exclusive early look at the first seven chapters of Thiteen, the Otherworld series finale, which I decided not to read as I am not up to that book yet in my Kelley Armstrong library of books so didn't want to spoil my future reading.

So did I enjoy the two novellas? YES! Would I read more? YES Would I recommend? I always do recommend Kelley Armstrong!

Review originally posted on my blog: A Book Obsession..

I am a huge fan of Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series. I'm really sad that it's almost over, so I was incredibly excited when I saw this e-special was going to be available. Not only are there two short stories included, but there also is a large chunk of the opening chapters of Thirteen.

I had previously read Stalked a long time ago, but it was more than worth reading a second time. Clay and Elena are my top favorite characters in the otherworld series, so I absolutely love any books/stories that center around them. Stalked was an especially good treat as it was told from Clay's perspective rather than Elena's. I really love the dynamic between the two of them, and it was nice to see some happiness after the very long and rough road they have had together.

Coming in at a close second for favorite characters, I'm always happy to read anything from Eve's perspective. She's a very complex character that has a very strong set of morals, but doesn't have a problem getting her hands dirty to get the job done. She's always got to keep herself busy or she quickly gets bored and into trouble, which is exactly what happens in Off-Duty Angel. It was quite entertaining to see her more mischievous side come out to play.

Finally, the excerpt of Thirteen. It starts off with a prologue featuring Eve, and then transitions into Savannah's perspective. The action starts right away, and man is it intense. If the whole book follows that pace, then Thirteen promises to be one heck of a roller coaster ride.

So, I have to say that this e-special is more than worth the purchase, and is a must read for fans of the series!

Mon avis en Français

My English review

I was curious to see how these two short stories were when I saw it was possible to read them. The novel however presents the first chapters of Thirteen but I didn’t read it as I’m still at the seventh book in the series. Yes, I know… I’m a little late. (Remind me why I read this one in French? I don’t even have a good answer).

Regarding these two stories, I think the synopsis tells a lot so I won’t explain what is going on this time. I was really pleased by the characters featured here, indeed, I love Elena and Clay, as Eve. Well, I confess I like Paige as well, but it’s not for this volume. It’s always a pleasure to learn more about our protagonists. We never get tired with some little stories about them. I don’t think it was a problem for me to have one between book 12 and 13 even if I’m not there yet. I already read the book about Eve and this one is perfectly in continuity.

I think you know that now, everything is really fast but it was so nice. The Kelley Armstrong writing style is fluid as always and each story is well rhythmic and complete. I think it’s always difficult as we don’t have a lot of pages.

A nice surprise and I really need to read book 7 now, to continue and read the other books.

This anthology consists of two short stories: a previously published one about Elena and Clay (in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon) and a new Eve story.

Stalked : a short story from Clay's POV, which follows Elena and Clay on their honeymoon.
Clay's POVs are always fun, so are Elena and Clay trying to be 'normal'. Which never really ends up working for them as trouble has a way of finding the happy couple.
4 stars

Off Duty Angel : a short story about a bored Eve wishing for adventure, who finds out what the 'be careful what you wish for'- saying is all about.
I love Eve's stories, her resourcefulness and snarky ways never fail to entertain. And her interaction with Kristof is always endearing. Too bad the plot itself was rather confusing and made me go "huh?" at the end.
3 stars

All in all, an okay anthology: 3,5 stars

I'm writing this on my phone, as we dont have any computers with net at the moment, so look away from stupid spellig mistakes.

STALKED — 4/5

I've read this short story before, and I think I gave it 5/5 then. The only reason its getting 4/5 stars now, is because I just read a story by Armstrong with the same plottwist! That was a real bummer, 'cause I really love Armstrongs writing.
Other than that fact, this is a fun Elena/Clay story, from Clay's POV. It has the banter and love I like between them, some werewolf fun, and sexytime. So everything I want in a story about those two.

OFF—DUTY ANGEL — 4/5

I've wanted to read more from Eve's point of view for quit a while now. I find her kick ass in another way than Elena, and some times even more interesting.
While this short—story was fun, actionpacked and mysterious, I felt it lacked something. Probably because I thought it might have something to directly do with the plot in "Thirteen".
It was a great read, in much another way than "Stalked"

Thirteen is my lucky number. I figured out that the 13th book in this wonderful series would be totally awesome, but it did not happen. The book is made up of three short stories which leave you thirsty for more. The stories were tame compared to the other 12 books. I love this author and her writing is always interesting and she has a way to make you guess what will happen and take you somewhere else completely. This time; it was not the case. :( I am actually grateful that the book was not longer than it was. There will be more books (I hope) to redeem this one (I hope).

Elena and Clayton are on their honeymoon but both are kind of bored with the normal, mundane sightseeing available in St Louis and as werewolves there are limited places to just change, let loose and run. But since they are trying to be romantic neither is willing to tell the other that they are bored. Complications pop up when a stray werewolf with something to prove starts stalking them. How they solve the problem and also learn to communicate better with each other is the theme throughout Stalked.

Off-Duty Angel introduces us to Evie a dark witch and half demon who also happens to be dead. But that does not mean she is lazing around the afterlife happily. In fact, with her lover Kris busy in court (yes, there is court in the afterlife) she is getting antsy for something to do. Kris has her follow a man (also dead) who might be of use in one of Kris’ cases but what starts as a straightforward chore turns more interesting when Evie stumbles into a dimensional passage and finds a long-lost book of great importance.

I had not read anything in this series before this book. Both short stories are easy to follow and enjoyable even without the background of the full series. There is an excerpt from the book Thirteen which is non-stop action and makes me want to read the series. Recommended

This was a pretty good novella. I think it would have been better if I had read all the necessary books before reading this one but I needed it for a challenge.

I have at least read one or two books about Elena and Clay so I wasn't terribly lost with the first story. I didn't realize they had twins though so that's something to look forward to.

It seemed a pretty typical story for them, fighting, sex and a mission.

I didn't know that Clay had been injured though and that it impaired his ability to fight so that was something new as well.

I have never read any of the other books in the series about the other characters. I think I tried one of them once and couldn't get into it so the second novella was interesting but I was lost a lot of the time on who the characters were. If it wasn't a novella connected to a series it would have been really good and it still was but I kept wondering who was who. :/

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

THE HUNTER AND THE HUNTED (Women of the Otherworld) Anthology by Kelley Armstrong-release date June 12, 2012

STALKED

STALKED is the first short story in Kelley Armstrong’s anthology THE HUNTER AND THE HUNTED. Originally released in the anthology My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon, written from Clay’s perspective STALKED follows Clay and Elena on their honeymoon in St. Louis.

Clay was hoping that their honeymoon was perfect, but only a couple of days into their vacation, Elena is bored. Not that she told him, but he sensed. Being werewolves, sightseeing wasn’t their usual form of entertainment, but the scent of a mutt (werewolf without a pack) spurred Clay into action. Hoping that Elena did not catch the scent, Clay tracked down the mutt and as usual, the mutt was willing to risk everything for a chance at the only female werewolf in existence. Threatening Clay’s mate would mean death to any wolf.

Fans of Kelley Armstrong will recognize the Cain name from previous storylines. The mutt hunting Elena was the son of Theo Cain and the young Cain was not willing to give up. But to Clay’s surprise it was Elena that eventually responded to Cain’s stalking. Elena was not willing to wait around for an attack. She was going to make sure the mutt never returned. With her usual flair, Kelley takes the reader on a hunt to track down a mutt only to find that there are three wolves willing to risk all for a chance at Elena.

STALKED is a quick read, basically a chapter in length. I had previously read Stalked in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon, but Kelley is re-releasing many of her short stories and novellas for her WOTO fans. With the final book THIRTEEN to be released in July 2012, fans of WOTO will get periodic glimpses into the lives of the many characters throughout the series when Kelley re-releases her stories. Stalked is a welcome addition to the series, and fills in some of the missing timeline between BROKEN and FROSTBITTEN.

OFF-DUTY ANGEL

OFF-DUTY ANGEL is another short story that focuses on Eve Levine-part demon/part witch/sometime ghost/sometime angel-mother of Savannah and the late Nast Cabal heir Kristof Nast’s otherworldly lover. Wow, she has quite the repertoire. Oh and did I forget to mention-The Sword of Judgment. Eve holds life and death in her hands. Living or existing on another plane of existence, Kristof and Eve track down and prosecute the supernatural who have riled the Fates in the afterlife.

Lord Demon Balaam is Eve’s father and through parenting he has gifted Eve with a special ability and combining with her talents as a witch, Eve is called upon when someone needs to be followed. Shaman Lewis Stranz was her current assignment. Under Kristof’s directives Eve follows Lewis to London and the British museum, where she is not surprised to realize that he is probably a pawn in a much larger game. And meeting up with a demi-demon (an Erynis) now put Lewis on the radar because Erynis were known as the goddesses of vengeance.

But along the way, Eve crosses a barrier shift and soon finds herself the object of fear to a group of small demon-like creatures. Thinking she is working for her father, the Oni are under the assumption she has come for the one treasure they do not want to part (with).

Trsiel is a full-blooded angel with a voice that compels the truth. Partnered in the after-life together, Eve calls upon Trsiel to help better understand the treasure that the Oni refuses to give up. But Eve soon realizes that Kristoff has involved Eve in a game that has suddenly taken a serious turn. They had crossed a portal into Hell and retrieving the ‘treasure’ would take a miracle that even Trsiel wasn’t able to manage.

OFF-DUTY ANGEL reunites Eve with Trsiel as she aims to conquer her boredom while Kristof attends to his otherworldly legal duties. Written from Eve’s POV, Off- Duty Angel is another wonderful storyline in the WOTO series of novels and shortstories and imparts some more missing information that will eventually lead the Kelley’s final full length novel-THIRTEEN.

THIRTEEN (preview)

THIRTEEN is the last full-length novel (July 2012 release) in Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series. The Hunter and the Hunted offers a preview of what is in store for the final entry in a wonderful series from Savannah’s continued POV.

THIRTEEN continues where SPELLBOUND ended. Following the lab explosion that nearly ended Savannah, Adam and Jeremy’s lives, The Supernatural Liberation Movement continues their threat to reveal the existence of ‘otherworldly’ beings, but now someone with vengeance in their plans is calling upon the demons and angels. But when Savannah and Eve find themselves in police custody surrounded by other supernatural beings, they soon realize that their very existence hangs on their ability to call forth an ‘angel’ that only Jaime can see. And the angel is someone Savannah hasn’t seen in 9 years.

Kelley has said that many of her WOTO characters will reunite in THIRTEEN and within the first five chapters, one of the recently departed has returned. I am looking forward to reading THIRTEEN-here’s hoping everyone gets their HEA and Savannah and her family will be reunited for one glorious celebration at the end.

I've already read Stalked and didn't want to start Thirteen yet (I'd go insane waiting, better not to even start until I have the entire book).

Off Duty Angel is a good short story. Eve is probably my least favorite of the characters in this series (but that doesn't mean I don't like her). If you enjoyed Angelic, you'll enjoy this story.

This had three stories: "Stalked", "Off-Duty Angel" and "Thirteen". All great, of course.

My personal database had all three listed as read, but I don't recall ever reading any of the stories before. Strange. If you're an Otherworld fan (and how could anyone not be) you'll like these.

This has 2 stories in it. 10.6 ‘Off-Duty Angel’ & 7.3 ‘Stalked’. I’ve read ‘Stalked’ before in the ‘My Big Fat Honeymoon’ anthology before so it’s the ‘Angel’ story that I’m reading and reviewing.

Off-Duty Angel is a story about angel Eve Devine. She has some time off, but her ghostly lover Kristof is at work and needs a favor following a possible witness. The witness leads her on an adventurous journey through the dead version of a world trip.

Love that we see a bit more how the dead world’s duplication of the living works. The museum is cool.

Footnote: After reading this think I’ve read it before but I still enjoyed it.

Fave scenes: the three dogs and glowing box.

Kelley's Otherworld series is one of my favorites, so was very excited to see that there was an eSpecial with two short stories and an excerpt for the last book in the series! There was much rejoicing in my house that day! Since it's only three stories, I'll give a brief recap of each one:

STALKED:
This was previously published in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon and I had already read it, but it was a nice reread. Elena and Clay are one of my favorite urban fantasy couples! And being Elena and Clay, they can't have a normal honeymoon! Bored by the lack of anything to do but not wanting to disappoint the other, things take an interesting turn when a mutt (non-pack werewolf) starts sniffing around. Elena and Clay take matters into their own hands, learn to communicate a little better, and wind up having a good time after all. Love these two!

OFF-DUTY ANGEL:
This was a new story for me, featuring half-demon, part-time angel Eve Levine. Boredom plays a part in this story as well as Eve has some time off, but since her lover is busy, Eve is bored. I don't really like it when strong women are bored without their boy toys (not that Kristof is a boy toy!), but sort of understand where Eve is coming from.

As a favor to Kristof, she starts following a shaman who may or may not be important to Kristof's latest court case. Things take an interesting turn when she stumbles into a secret dimensional passage at the British Museum. (I never stumble into secret dimensions at museums. Would make museums a lot more palatable! Just saying) Suddenly things get a whole lot more interesting and Eve is no longer bored! Really enjoyed watching Eve work! And liked seeing her interactions with her angelic partner Tsriel. Really fun short story!

THIRTEEN:
This picks up right where the last book left off. Literally. Savannah and her brother are stumbling away from the headquarters where Bryce was being held captive. Leaving Bryce with Jeremy and Adam, Savannah and Jaime head off to find dry clothes. Picked up by the police as suspects in the bombing, Savannah knows that something isn't right.

Thrown into jail, Jaime gets sick. Things go from bad to worse and suddenly they need to fight for their lives! I got sucked into the story immediately and am on the edge of my seat, impatiently waiting to read the rest!

There's a war coming, and Savannah and friends are going to need to gear up in preparation.

Really enjoyed this excerpt, and love how it picked up right where we left off so there's no wondering what happened. While sad that the series is coming to an end, this one sounds like it's going to be a great send-off to an awesome series! And I really hope that Kelley will revisit the series every now and again so we can watch the twins grow up, see if Adam and Savannah ever get together, and revisit all of our old friends.

Finished at 59%. Started reading the prologue to 13 and had to FORCE myself to turn the kindle off.

Stalked was originally published in My Big Fat Supernatural honeymoon, which I refused to buy because I only wanted it for this story and it was £10 - no way. Luckily, I was able to read it when I visited a friend in Canada.
Elena and Clay are on their honeymoon when Clay notices a mutt is stalking them, stalking Elena. He confronts him and discovers his reputation is no longer what it used to be (he and Elena discuss this in a later book, I think it might be Hidden) and this mutt isn't scared off by the confrontation. Determined to keep the mutt a secret from Elena he tries to trap him, only to realise that Elena knew about him all along. So they team up and do what they do best ~ scare him off (with a little killing).
I do love Clay as a narrator, he always comes across as so stand offish in other books that it's great to read from his perspective every once in a while. This story brings Clay's worries as a father and husband to the front, his injured arm being his main worry but also the fact that his big scare tactic was almost 30 years ago and the newer generations don't believe thee story so they're just not as scared. As I said, I had already read this but since I didn't actually own the book I hadn't had a chance to re-read it.

Off-Duty Angel is the new short story prequel to 13, it has one of my favourite narrators ~ Eve. Eve is on her 6 month shore leave from angel duty and is bored since Kristoff is in court. So Kristoff brings her a case to help him with, getting info on a ghost. Eve stumbles upon a hidden dimension and finds some little demonic critters with a big secret ~ some lost text that contain spells. So Eve gets Trsiel involved after discovering the whole quest was just made up to alleviate Eve's boredom, and they get trapped in a hell dimension. Turns out her fake quest turned into a real one, involving some big hell beasts.
I absolutely LOVE Eve as a narrator, she's so kick ass. This really was just a little filler story but it gave a nice little insight into Eve and Kristoff's afterlife and some of Eve's angel duty woes.

I didn't read the 13 preview, if it was just the prologue or even just one chapter I probably would have. But it's 6 chapters and then I would have had to wait 'til July to read the full book ~ even I can't inflict that much pain on myself. Although I couldn't stop myself from reading the first couple of paragraphs before forcing myself to put down the kindle and back away slowly.

27th July isn't really that far away, is it? I can wait ..... I hope!

The Hunter and the Hunted are two short stories from Kelley Armstrong's the Otherworld series. Penguin also threw in the first seven chapters of Thirteen, and let me just say that I cannot wait for that book. I've had it pre-ordered for awhile now, but reading these first few chapters really sold me on it. I'm counting the days until it's released. The two short stories are good, and I always love getting more Elena and Clay. While I enjoyed them, I enjoyed the sneak peek of Thirteen more.

The first story in this novella is a short story about Elena and Clay, told from Clay's perspective. I love when Clay narrates because he has such a unique perspective. It's always like I'm reading from a wolf's perspective instead of a man's. I love Elena as a narrator too, but it's always interesting to see Clay's take on things. "Stalked," the story, is a cute story about Elena and Clay's honeymoon. It was interesting to see how they interacted and how much they tried to stick to human ideals while on their honeymoon. I'm going to miss those two characters when the series ends.

"Off-Duty Angel" is told from Eve's perspective. It's also a cute story, and it was nice to get to know Eve better. Since she only had one book in the series, I don't feel like I know her as well as I know the other characters. She's not present as much as Jaime (who also only had one book) is. I feel like I know Eve more through reputation than through observing her behaviors, so I liked getting to see more of her. Both stories are only around 30 pages each and very light-hearted.

The teaser for Thirteen blew my mind. I was already wishing July 24 would hurry and get here, and now it's a billion times worse. The final book in the Otherworld series is shaping up to be an intense and emotional thrill-ride. I have a feeling I'll laugh, cry, and be on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. I'm literally counting the days until I can get my hands on this novel.

Overall, I'd recommend this novella to any Kelley Armstrong fan. If you're a fan of the Otherworld series, then you'll love getting more looks into the characters' lives. It's also a nice edition to the series because we get to hear from characters who usually don't get to narrate their own stories. If you haven't read the Otherworld series yet, then you're missing out. Start with Bitten, though. You'd be completely lost with this novella if you hadn't read the other books first. The Hunter and the Hunted is available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon in e-book format. This is a novella you'll want to add to your e-reader library.

Brief overview:

You should know that I love Kelley Armstrong and I love this series. I've been actually sad just thinking the last book is coming out in about a month. So when I saw that this was coming out I actually got really excited. And then I looked at what the stories were about and I had one those moments where that bright smile falters a bit. You'll see why in my individual story review.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this novella. It actually has two very short stories and then quite a big preview of THIRTEEN, which I didn't read because I want to enjoy the book fully when it comes out. But I was a bit disappointed that the preview was really pretty much half of this ebook.

STALKED
(Women of the Otherworld # 7.3)

This story was originally published in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon (anthology) which I never read. Basically Clay and Elena had their twins and were basically living as a married couple without being actually married. So when they decide to make it official and then they go on their honeymoon, they thought they wanted what normal couples got in their honeymoon. Except normal is boring for them. And Elena finds herself being stalked by a mutt, but it's Clay who notices right away. I loved the fact that this story was from Clay's POV. I can still say Clay and Elena are my favorite couple in this series and it's always enjoyable to read about them, but Clay's mind is such a treat to be in. Having not read the anthology this was originally published in, I actually enjoyed this story as new to me.

OFF-DUTY ANGEL
(Women of the Otherworld # 12.5)

Here's the reason why my smile faltered. Eve *might* be my least favorite character in the series. I've never developed any attachment to her, probably because she is technically out of the picture already when the series pretty much gets going and then comes back. Needless to say I was disappointed that the brand new story we were getting was Eve's. But it was kind of fun. She's been bored out of her mind with mindless research work until her DH gives her an assignment. This takes her on a quest, jumping through different planes, and she actually made this story entertaining to the point that I liked her. A lot of action and the story was very focused on Eve and hardly on Eve/Kristoff.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIRTEEN!!!

Quick & Dirty: Fun stories for fans of the Otherworld series with one new story, one old and a sneak peek into Thirteen.

Excerpt: No

The Review:

I am a huge fan of Kelley Armstrong’s writing style, unfortunately I haven’t read anything by her since Waking the Witch and I have forgotten some key elements to the series since then. It is really hard to talk about the stories when the synopsis above describes the story perfectly – and without giving away too much. Stalked was a story that I had read before and had no problem jumping back into again. Off-Duty Angel was a little bit harder to get into, trying to remember Eve’s story again, but if you are truly a fan of this series then you will want to read this story. Since I haven’t read Spell Bound yet, I couldn’t bring myself to read the first seven chapters of Thirteen, but I can’t wait to see how this series will end!

“Stalked” (Otherworld Series 7.3)

Originally published in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. Stalked is a story that is completely told from Clayton Danvers point of view as he tries to keep from ruining Elena’s honeymoon from a werewolf out to take Elena as his own. A fun, quick story that gives some insight into Clayton and how much he loves and respects Elena, even though it really comes down to communication. The story is a little predictable but if you are a fan of this series then you’ll love Stalked.

Rating: 4/5

“Off-Duty Angel” (Otherworld Series 12.5)

Eve Levine is bored. The afterlife just isn’t keeping her as busy as she would like so when Kristof gives her a job to follow someone for information, she stumbles upon a bigger mystery. This mystery story does start out a little slow since Eve doesn’t even know what is going on most of the time. The story is a good look into the afterlife where Eve lives. It is interesting how buildings and places are reflected into the afterlife – a lot of exposition is given to this.

The introduction by Kelley Armstrong makes Off-Duty Angel sound like it will tie into events that will happen in Thirteen. I have a feeling that whatever Eve finds will be the key that solves something which I guess I will have to read Thirteen to find out.

Rating: 3/5

FTC Advisory: Penguin/Dutton provided me with a copy of The Hunter and the Hunted. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

As the clock ticks down on the release of the last novel in the Otherworld series, Kelly Armstrong gives us this novella to tide us over until July. It features two short stories. "Off Duty Angel" is new. "Stalked" was previously released as part of My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. I've read it before, but I enjoyed reading it again here.

"Stalked" is a Clay POV about his honeymoon with Elena. It's really important to him to get it just right. Elena didn't have the wedding of her dreams. Clay ruined that idea 18 years ago when he turned her into a werewolf. But, the honeymoon... he wants to make that perfect for her. Only, a mutt is stalking them. Clay tries to hide it from Elena, but that doesn't quite work out. The good news is... taking down the mutt together may be the highlight of their trip.

Clay and Elena are my favorite couple in the series. And I love hearing Clay's voice. He is a very simple man. He loves his wife. He lives to protect her, his family, and his pack. That's it. Here, he doesn't disappoint.

"Off Duty Angel" is an Eve short. It's very reminiscent of Angelic, in my opinion. We see Eve kind of stuck in the circumstances of her afterlife. Kind of bored. Still thumbing her nose at authority and playing by her own rules. Right now, Kris is in the middle of a big case and she has nothing to do with her downtime. So Kris sends her on a mission to play P.I. for him. The story is mostly action oriented and gives us very little time with Eve and Kris. I think I would have enjoyed an adventure that did more to incorporate them both, but I'm glad Eve got one last hurrah.

This novella also offers an extended peek inside the series finale book, 13. The first seven chapters are here, if you want to get a head start on your reading. 13 releases July 24.

I'm sad the series is ending, so I am happy to take every last story Armstrong has to offer. Just be aware that if you've already read "Stalked" and you are planning to buy 13, the only exclusive content you'll find here is Eve's 25 page short story.

Oh, how I love Kelley Armstrong's books! Right before the release of 13 (coming out July 24, 2012) she gives us a little teaser present with The Hunter and the Hunted. This collection contains two novellas, Stalked and Off-Duty Angel and plus a sneak peek of 13. All three are a great way to get ready for 13.

The first story is Stalked which was originally published in My Big, Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. Elena and Clayton are finally on their honeymoon and he wants to make it perfect for her. However, an annoying mutt gets in the way. These two are my favorite characters of the Otherworld series. To make this story even better, it's from Clayton's perspective. I really enjoyed watching him trying to protect Elena and give her a "normal" honeymoon. He is actually trying to respect human tradition which is pretty humorous. I love everything about Elena and Clayton and it was fun reading this little tale.

Next is a new story about Eve Levine, part-time ghost and part-time angel. Off-Duty Angel takes Eve on a little adventure while waiting for her lover, Kristof Nash, to get free from the otherworsly court. I always find it amusing that Eve always finds herself in some kind of mess and has to fight her way out. As I read this quirky tale, I'm finding that the infamous dark witch is slowly getting some scruples. Watching her decide between right and wrong is very entertaining. Eve has appeared in several of the Otherworld books and has had her own in Haunted. However, I have always pictured her mainly as Savannah's mother. Eve gave Savannah more complexity. However, I think Ms. Armstrong wrote this story to further develop Eve in time for 13. My guess is that Eve plays major role in the upcoming book.

Ms. Armstrong also included in this collection seven chapters of 13. After reading, I think she was a little bit mean giving us a tantalizing taste and then waiting until next month to give the rest. 13 opens with a bang! After reading just a few pages, I was completely hooked. I can't wait to find out how she concludes this series and probably a little bit sad that it's ending.

13 has to be the book I have been most looking forward to being released in my book worm years. As a self confessed fan girl of the Women of the Otherworld series I am happy to pick anything related to the series, and in this case it is a pair of bite sized short stories.

Stalked

Clay & Elena have to be my favourite character couple from the series so anything that is about them I am pretty much guaranteed to enjoy. Having said that, this is not a fantastic example of their story. I can't help but think, that without having read any of the other books this might be a thrilling read. The plot is short, well written and fast paced. But as a regular reader this doesn't really add anything to the series. Nothing new is learnt, no real new characters are introduced and my favourite characters related to them are barely mentioned.

Off-Duty Angel

I really enjoyed this short story. The plot was original and there was considerable amount of character development. Eve really is a kick ass character and I really warmed to her in this episode. I would have purchased for just this one short.

13 Preview

Last books in series tend to be action packed. Deathly Hallows. Breaking Dawn. 13 looks to be no different in that respect. I was positively shocked by some of the gore and really intrigued to read the rest of the book now. I just really hope that with all this action it doesn't loose the romance (sex), character development and the domestic scenes I really enjoy. My biggest gripe with this preview though was its formatting. I can only assume with its conversion to a Kindle readable format something went wrong, resulting in a series of small but annoying spacing errors. This aside this really is just a taster and I can wait for the next book!

Overall this was not a dissapointment, but just not the best I have read by Armstrong. Just today I received my email confirmation that my copy of 13 has been shipped, and this short story collection has in no way affected the anticipation and excitement I have for this final book, be it good or bad.

STALKED was a story that I was familiar with. I am such a fan of Armstrong's work that I buy anthologies just for her stories. If you have My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon, you already own this story. What I liked most about it is that it is told by Clayton Danvers. It tells about a honeymoon trip that he planned to St. Louis, which seems an odd honeymoon destination for a couple of werewolves, and which is turning out to be less exciting than either of them had hoped. Less exciting that is until a stray werewolf shows up who wants to kill Clayton and take Elena as his own. Obviously, this guy isn't too bright! Clayton notices him following them but tries to keep it from Elena so as not to spoil their honeymoon. Elena isn't fooled and together they end up taking on the not-too-bright stray werewolf. They also have a honeymoon that is more their style.

OFF-DUTY ANGEL is a story featuring Eve Levine. She is bored while Kristoff is off on a case and ends up getting herself into trouble as she starts following a guy, discovers a lost spell book attributed to Moses, and ends up in the Hell dimension. It is Eve at her irreverent and quirky best and provides us with a look at the dimension where she lives people by oni, angels, fates, and other supernatural creatures.

The ebook also contains the Prologue and first six chapters of THIRTEEN. We see Savannah, Jaime, Jeremy, Adam and Eve in this section. It begins with Savannah, Bryce, Jeremy and Jaime getting away from a bomb blasted lab. Then Savannah and Jaime are arrested and the rest takes place at the jail. This brief teaser makes me very eager for the release of THIRTEEN on July 24.

The stories were a good way to find out more about the characters of the Women of the Otherworld series and were a good way to get an Otherworld fix while waiting for THIRTEEN.
